A week a ago NO’s son told my friends son (classmate) that the investigation was going good. Last Friday he said it didn’t look good now and they might be moving to Texas. ‍♂️

Interesting.

And welcome back!

He's been chumming it up with Cuban, eh?

Sounds about right.

then whoever jody has running this is so out of their depth. did they simply anticipate olshey to take it lying down? it's a PR disaster waiting to happen.

what precedence is their for a wrongful termination suit anyway? guys get fired all the time in the league. Olshey himself said that he "serves at the pleasure of Jody Allen." and even while she doesn't need a tangible reason to fire him, he has plenty of missteps they can easily point to.

this is purely financial.
Exactly. You negotiate a buyout before this kind of mess hits the press.

If that fails, then you have to do this and try to get the deal you didn't get, or better.

Random thought: Might it benefit the organization to do the diligence in this way to blunt a potential hostile workplace lawsuit, e.g. by showing they took action to fix identified problems?

nah, I think @Minstrel nailed it. It seems like the team could be looking for reasons to keep him but the overwhelming evidence suggests he has to go.

Maybe. Or maybe somebody pointed out to them what the Thorns went through when they just let the coach go. They wanted to just get it over with and move on...and they got scorched for it.
I'm not familiar. If I had thorns, I'd want to get rid of them too.

So if you're Jody & Bert and when they evaluated NO's Annual/Qtrly performance what do you think would be the top 4 objective criteria for them to sign off on his performance? Weight each of the 4.

1. Playoffs
2. acquisitions working out?
3. Cap / Budget / Profitability
4. Attendance / PR acceptable?

Investigation aside, IMO, he should still be gone.

  • LMA leaving for nothing when so many KNEW he would be gone
  • 2016 Free Agency
  • 2017 Draft
  • Signing CJ a year before he had to
  • 5 1st round picks, Ariza and DJJ for Collins, RoCo and Nance
He has been good with later picks in the 2nd round or late 1st round, but that doesn't make up for the rest.
Ouch

You missed one: his ability to paint Jody's toenails and loofah her stretch marks without whining. :devilwink:

Fischer today said (paraphrasing):

Ton of speculation around the league saying Neil is out. Others in house also worried about firings trickling down. No idea of timeline for now on any announcements. Shouldn't change Dame's mindset too dramatically, but the decision on replacement will be vital because they will be fully in charge of Dame's prime. Billups is entrenched because of his connection with team/Dame and his long/expensive contract. Names flying around already-- can't reveal yet. Internal names for interims, and external candidates for after the season. Others execs around the league also worried about their own positions because this kinda workplace conduct is relatively common all over. But unsure of what specifically triggered the investigation into Neil.

Not really that surprised.

Sexual harassment or dating of a co-worker?

None of that kind of shit has been even remotely alluded to. It seems that Olshey was just verbally abusive towards lower level employees. I personally hope that's enough to fire someone if there is a pattern of behavior. People might have felt that being unduly belittled by a boss was part of a job descriptions in years past but it's no way to run a business. It causes a lack of open communication, it causes high churn which is costly, it causes resentment that results in lower productivity and it's ethically wrong.

On a side note, on the way to the arena on our last trip we got our ratings numbers…… higher than ever. Fantastic viewership my man. Higher ratings equal more money from sponsors equals better business. This is a business.

Psst... winning games would also be good for business. Pass it on.
