So ~$37mil of space if we renounce Meyers too? I'm definitely doing that if I run the Blazers.
Meyers and Henderson to Phoenix for Chandler and Cleveland's first round pick. Would you?

Yep. Up to $37M if we renounce the rights to Kaman, Henderson, Harkless and Leonard. That's a lot of money to play with!

Why? To sign all the big name free agents that don't want to come here?

How many teams will be able to offer max money to Durant this summer? Being able to keep our core and do that might be worthwhile.

Or hell, we have another Goodwill buying spree after letting the bottom four players on our roster go, and try improving that way for a couple of years until we cycle into some young overachievers.

How do you know his market value before the season ended and before any team gave him a single offer??

There are some pretty good players in the NBA who are in Hendo's level who make below 6M.
You've seen Jerryd Bayless yesterday? He makes 3M now.
To tell you the truth I must have got lost. Thought we were talking Crabbe here. 12 MIL for him from Olshey easily. Henderson? Yes, I think you are right. 10 MIL MAX from us although I could see another team go as high as 12.

If we sign Hendo for $12 mil I'll be furious.

He was viewed as overpaid this year at $6 million; that was the reason Charlotte insisted we assume his contract in the trade.
I don't think we sign him personally as I think he is traded. And I wouldn't go that high even if we didn't. I could see another team going up to 12 with the money burning a hole in their pocket however.

If your NO, you sit down with Terry and Dame and you discuss this together. Then you sell a game plan of signing low for long term success. Crabbe signs for 40/5, Hendo for 24/3. Get Dame to lead the way with the team success talk.

He's kind of worthless in trade. He's a FA after the season. Big risk you can re-sign him.

I think with his weak 3pt shooting, he has less value than you'd think.

I think he easily brings back a 2nd round pick (at worst) and I have no problem moving him for that. This is a year of development. I absolutely fine with giving some of his minutes to Crabbe and some of his minutes to Harkless to see if he is worth resigning.

You can buy 2nd round picks for cash.

A second round pick is worthless to us too. Hendo is instant rotation. NO 2nd rounder is going be read to just jump right in and we have how many guys like that on the bench already eating up all of the coaches time?

Second round pick?
drink warm piss from a bucking horse>trade hendo for a 2nd round pick.

Which is great. Both can (and might) be done. However buying picks does not happen as much as it is used to in the NBA. And early 2nd round picks actually can be more expensive then late first rounders as they come without the guaranteed contract.

Honestly just depends on your priority. You sound like you want playoffs so of course it is piss to you. I am going to say Olshey's priority is for guys to learn on the job and let the chips fall where they may so I bet you see someone like Harkless (and maybe even Alexander occasionally) get more minutes once Hendo and Kaman are moved.

??? That's an awfully strong reaction for a player that isn't going to be here next season. Why would you turn up your nose at turning him into a future asset?

FWIW, last 5 games, Henderson scored 10, 15, 2, 11, and 14 points. His +/- : +5, +15, +3, +19, +13.

His minutes: 23, 21, 22, 25, and 22.

Seems like he's helping us win, currently. Stotts is playing him.

Thats an awfully strong assumption that he wont be here next year. Ive explained many times why I dont want a future asset. Because we have several on the bench now. This team could use a couple of rotational vets for the long haul, like Hendo and he is starting to fit in well. He could very easily be offered and sign a contract by us, because he feels the same way. Many times its alot safer to stay in a place you feel good about, even if its for a few mill less.

We have his bird rights. We can match any offer AND give him a longer deal and bigger raises. The bird rights are almost certainly worth more than a 2nd round pick.

His bird rights only allow us to go over the cap to sign him. Unless we're signing him to a contract starting above $9M/year, the bird rights are worthless.

It is called the Larry Bird Exception. "Exception" means we would have to go over the salary cap in order to use it. Which means that we would have to sign him for an amount greater than his cap hold in order to use it. And if the cap hold is 190% of $6M, then that means we would need to sign him to a contract starting at $11.5M or more in order to need bird rights.

Worth.
Less.

It's NO's option. That's the point.

And my point is that the "option" to post Gerald Henderson 12M+/yr is most certainly not worth more than a second round pick.
It's not $12M/year.

There are ways to get close to the cap or over before signing him.

They sign players up to $12M under, then sign Crabbe for $10M. For example. Crabbe's cap hold is tiny. His next contract won't be. $947K this year.
