Super Bowl XLIX Super Thread!

Blazer fans have no place trolling another team for choke jobs. Having lived through the 2000 WCF, and the Superbowl XL, I can take this in stride.

I'm just pissed I lost 325 on squares because they did that fucking slant pass. Had they scored w/Beastmode, I'd be sitting on squares 8 n 1. god damn you Carroll.

My wife tried to pull that on me this morning. "Why are you still sad? It's not like you're a part of the team. Get over it."

If you find her body I have an alibi. Just sayin'.

I see a lot of fucking weird shit.

People on Facebook saying shit like "I still believe" or "I'm still a 12" or "we got this next year" claiming to be fans. I wouldn't be able to leave the house for a fucking week if this shit happened.

I guess that's the casual fan vs the die hard. People with little emotional investment because they are new fans due to the recent success.

And I saw they still had fireworks after the game at the space needle? The fuck is that.

Like streamers after a regular season W for Portland?

If this happened to my team, I wouldn't be getting out of bed today.

As a Jets fan I despise the cheating Pats. But man! I am sure GLAD I am not a Hawks fan today.
That will go down as the biggest f-up in the history of pro sports!!!
No kidding.

I was sitting there on the couch with my daughter. After the miracle catch, and second down on the one yard line, the SleazeDawgs had a 100% chance of winning the Super Bowl.

100%

The QB raises up to throw the ball -- I immediately screamed, arms spread wide, palms pointing to the ceiling: "WHY ARE YOU THROWING THE BALL!!!!!!".

Too late. Interception. I started yelling something about it being the worst play call in the history of bad Super Bowl play calls. Which I repeated for about the next 15 minutes. Just utter disbelief in what I'd just seen.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't have much of a rooting interest in the game, although I kinda don't like the Patriots. I only watched 'most' of the fourth quarter. But that was just too much. If I owned the Seahawks, I'd ban Carroll from the premises and have his fucking car towed.

This shall be his legacy.

Amazing sports history.

I'm also more or less a life long Jets fan ( ), although I don't really watch the NFL anymore. When I was a wee lad, the first NFL game I ever watched was Super Bowl III. Every kid in my class was rooting for Unitas and the Colts, mostly I guess since that's what their dads told them. Not having one of those, but being the proud owner of a Joe Namath bubble gum trading card (and the card of a Jets receiver whose name is long forgotten), I was the only Jets fan in the room. Until the following Monday, LOL.

I get that the Patriots won so their shit doesn't stink for now. But I'm still curious as to what Belichick was thinking when he chose to let the clock run down. If Seattle scores, he's left with two timeouts, but no time on the clock.

that's the crazy thing....they score there, and now people are asking about how Tom throws red-zone picks, Belichick let the clock run down (I still swear he was trying to tell Collins to let Lynch run it in to get the ball back) and how, for all their shenanigans, NE hasn't won in a decade. Now, people are saying Brady's GOAT etc....

Guh

Brady's not GOAT. But he has been there, done that. And now he's done it again. But Seattle fans were ready to anoint Wilson as one of the all-time greats. Brady has more SB's, and Wilson did not play all that well the last two weeks.

I think even the most homerific fan would say that RW (even if he'd have made that throw last night) was more of the Terry Bradshaw/Roger Staubach mold of QB (winner, not a "pure" QB, makes plays with legs and arm, gets help from defense/RB, etc) than Manning/Favre/Brady/Montana/Elway. And I would've been ok with that.

And I've seen and heard plenty over the last week and this morning of people downplaying the Hawks' defense historically and saying Brady's better than Montana in the playoffs, which combined with his regular-season stats makes him GOAT. If that's just a vocal minority I apologize, but it's getting nauseating.

There were comments last night, and in the week leading up to the game, and on sports radio..... people were all over Wilson's jock. "Stats don't matter, but when the Hawks win the SB, how can you not believe Wilson isn't right up there with the greats? And he's only in his 3rd year?" Weak shit like that. Because yeah, let's not forget it's a team sport and your D is pretty damn solid.

I haven't seen a lot of "Brady's better than Montana". I've seen a lot of Brady's inclusion in the discussion of all-time great QB's, which is just and fair. He deserves to be in the conversation. But by and large, it seems most people still have Montana at #1.

Fair enough. I don't get a lot of NW talk radio, but I could see that happening. In Tampa they're heavily NE-based, and of course when Im listening Greeny/Colin/Russillo on the radio they're already NE lovers from being on ESPN. Which I have no problem with. But that's where it was coming up. And then NBC pointing out all the "career playoff records" Brady was breaking. Then again, I'm still bitter. ;)

And you're right, he deserves to be in the conversation, and he may be the best. But I don't think that his playoff record has proven it. :dunno:

Colin does jump Brady's nuts quite a bit (in large part cuz he's based in the area, I assume), but he jumps Wilson's nizzuts pretty tightly as well (I assume he's a Hawk fan, given he's a NW boy, but I limit how much I listen to Colin anymore).

You can't win them all, but his record isn't just his own doing. I mean, when they lost to the Ravens two seasons ago and missed out on the Super Bowl, that NE team was a shock to have made it that far. They were so injury-riddled. Don't get my wrong...... Nobody is as good as Joe in my book, but Brady's had an amazing career. Unparalleled in some ways. People still talk about Manning like maybe he's best ever. If they can talk about Manning that way, the Brady pushers have to take it a step further because he's had a better career, overall.

From wikipedia:

Brady and Joe Montana are the only two players in NFL history to win the NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl MVP awards multiple times. Brady is the only quarterback to lead his team to six Super Bowls (four of them victorious).

Ya, even my wife - who knows almost nothing about sports - immediately wondered why they didn't run it in. Unreal.

This. My wife understands basketball, is a baseball fan, but knows nothing about football. She had the same reaction, but she was happy with the poor play call (she hates the Seahawks, which actually has nothing to do with my hatred of them).

Another reason to hate Blazer's Edge:

Who Should I Root For?

Whomever you want, we're all cool with that here. Unless you grew up as a Niners fan (as some did in Portland in the '90s), most people in the Northwest are rooting for the Seahawks, thanks to local connections and sharing an owner with the Blazers.

The fuck? Most people hates them down here and have been Niner and Raider fans all along. I guess that's more of the Portland bias. Ben Golliver is sorely missed there.

The first mistake is asking someone else who to root for.

No shit. But you forgot the third option.... if they weren't Niners and Raiders fans, they likely simply didn't care for the sport. Then, they jumped on the Hawk bandwagon when they became relevant, and pretend like they've been there all along.

isn't that what he's basically suggesting, though?

"Who should I root for"? Uh, you're either a fan of a team or you're not. If you have to ask the week of the super bowl who you should be rooting for (and getting it from BE, of all places), and it's a team that's actually playing, then you might be a bandwagon fan.

The bigger question I have is "Why are you reading BE?" Who still reads BE? Who really read it when Ben was there?

I like how he said "some people", i was around then, EVERYONE loved them in this state. I guess those people all like his team now though.

LOL, no doubt. Props to Marshawn Lynch for his response to a reporter's question asking if he was surprised the ball didn't go to him: “No, because football is a team sport.”

When I saw fans complain about a few calls, I kept thinking back to the Pats' early punt and how Seattle was given a gift. Well, I just found this, which would have allowed the Pats to maintain possession:

Early officiating blunder
It did not take long for the officials to come into play. Three minutes into the game, referee Bill Vinovich threw a flag on Seattle’s Jeron Johnson for running into punter Ryan Allen , a 5-yard penalty that did not give the Patriots a first down. But Johnson actually hit Allen’s plant leg, which is supposed to be a 15-yard roughing-the-punter penalty.

I read Ben (and didn't read Dave), and there were frequently some nuggets in there. He also had "access" to be able to get the kind of quotes and stuff that Sly gets for us now. But I don't get Dave much at all.
