The 2025 NBA Free Agency officially starts June 30th, Monday at 3:00 PM Pacific (deals to be finalized July 6th) but insiders already reporting deals.

Discuss league-wide signings here and speculate on their implications to the Blazers, if any.

Davion Mitchell extends in Miami...2 years/24M

With the Naz Reid deal, and assuming they will retain Randle, they won't be able to afford Nickiel Alexander-Walker, who is an UFA, a shooter who can defend. I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed him to a reasonable contract.
I’m seeing him draw interest from several teams but I’d be interested in him for sure at a reasonable cost. I like the idea of playing Holiday more with Shae, NAW more with Scoot.

That would also secure the backcourt rotation for a least a couple years, even if Jrue plays himself into being traded to obtain more assets. Really, if we are confident in both our guard and big man rotations (I would be), we are just looking for the do-it-all superstar wing.

would the Blazers choose to hard cap themselves by signing NAW? They do so in a S&T. And if the 1st year of an offer exceeds 5.7M, they'd also hard cap themselves. And 5.7M probably won't get it done

maybe rather get DFS in an Ayton trade with the Lakers. But maybe the Blazers don't need either with Thybulle opting in

I don't know if we have to concern ourselves with hard caps that are above the tax line with this front office and current ownership but maybe they wouldn't want to trigger a hard cap because the team is for sale and a new owner might want the flexibility of going deep into the luxury tax. I doubt anyone cares about that in a year like this one where we aren't contending but I dare to dream of an owner like Balmer.

I wouldn't mind either, especially if Thybulle gets moved. Too bad we let him go for free in the first place.

From Bobby Marks:

Portland Trail Blazers

Below the tax: $7.9 million

Below the first apron: $14.3 million

(Note: The Trail Blazers intend to use more than 100% of the expanded traded player exemption. They are now hard capped at the first apron.)

Because of the expiring contracts of Anfernee Simons, Matisse Thybulle, Robert Williams III and Deandre Ayton, Portland was a wild-card team entering the offseason. Simons was eventually traded for Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and has Portland positioned to compete for at least a play-in spot.

Two internal moves to watch are extensions for Shaedon Sharpe and Toumani Camara. The latter was named All-Defensive second team last season.

Team needs:

3-and-D forwards and wings

Free agents who fit:

De'Anthony Melton,
Javonte Green,
Gary Payton II,
Amir Coffey,
Gary Trent Jr.,
Bruce Brown,
Lamar Stevens,
Delon Wright,
Riley Minix,
Jabari Walker,
Ziaire Williams,
Taurean Prince,
Trey Lyles

One move I would make:

Sign Camara to a four-year, $87 million extension.

Under contract:

Ayton, Holiday,
Jerami Grant,
Deni Avdija,
Williams III,
Thybulle (P),
Scoot Henderson,
Donovan Clingan,
Sharpe,
Kris Murray,
Duop Reath,
Camara,
Rayan Rupert (T) and
Yang Hansen

Key free agent:

Walker (R)

Other free agents:

Rupert
Dalano Banton

I believe players can agree to deals with their current team now. Monday deadline is for deals with new teams.

I haven't seen any deals with players and new teams?

Portland should be looking for a rebounding forward. Grant not it.

Have we improved our shooting so we are not third from bottom? I dont see it as yet, but hopefully Shae & Scoot will be respectable.

I think the bigger need is a forward who can shoot. Grant can do that.

If they trade him, which I hope they can do, they better get a cheaper forward back in return who can also shoot.

we made it worse by trading Ant, we need shooting
Agreed.

Alec Burks for near the minimum would not be bad.

I think Hardaway will get too much for us to compete for.

Duncan Robinson might be a decent swing for ~$3M after the Heat cut him

Kennard would be ideal... but he's going to get a full MLE

Trent -> been there / done that

Honestly, I think the best option is to get it in a trade. Id love either Huerter or Grayson Allen

not on your list Malik Beasley is unrestricted FA, perhaps we can't afford him in a straight signing?

I imagine the Blazers could get Allen and change for Jerami Grant? Same with Huerter. I think I like Allen more. What would those deals look like?

Phoenix is still above the second apron-> so they can't aggregate salaries.... so a Grant trade is not possible without Booker (nope), Beal (nope), or Green (maybe) coming back.

I actually think Beaker Heurter would be the better target.
Chicago might be an Ayton destination.

I'd rather try Grant for Huerter and Collins.

Ayton for those two work the same.

Chicago, Golden State, Lakers are Ayton desitnations

With the rumors of Cam Whitmore being on the trade market, is this someone that we could go after? At what price?

Would we be willing to trade the worst '29 first?

lottery protected....OK. Blazers still have a 6.9M TPE from the Brogdon/Deni trade that expires on July 5. Their questionable cap management over the last 3 years has seen Portland 'lose' 3 TPE's of around 8.5M. It would be nice if they actually used a TPE asset

lottery protected 2029 1st for Whitmore; that would slide the Rockets under the tax line

gotta be careful with that 2029 first though. A couple of months ago it was 'obviously' the Boston 1st and it was going to be a late 1st round pick. But since then, Tatum has suffered a severe Achilles injury, the Celtics are busy off-loading talent because of cost, and may be dangling Jalen Brown in trade talks. That 1st is looking a lot more valuable at this point
