The $64,000 question: Will Nurkic return for the playoffs?

I'd rather we sit Nurkic. If Portland beats the Warriors, our draft pick becomes really mediocre. Going deeper into the playoffs would kill our first-round pick utterly.

Well ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!

Nope, and I don't care. ZERO reason to play him this year. Dame may be our best player, but Nurk is our most valuable.

So, should we sit Dame, too? What about C.J.? Is it OK to play Harkless, Crabbe? What about Meyers? Should we play him and hope he gets hurt?

And yes, if he is healthy (and the doctors, who have actual medical degrees and access to his x-rays and medical history, will determine that), there is a reason to play him - post season experience, of which he currently has none. He's 22 and still improving. The more he plays, the better he will get. He was hungry to make the playoffs. He wanted this. If he's healthy enough to play, he should.

In a certain respect, playing The Closers 48 minutes a night against Golden State for four games would be hilarious as a F-U to the league.

If he plays, hopefully he comes back for G3. Give him more rest, then unleash him in front of the home crowd. But I would lean to the most cautious approach and not play him at all.

so it would be:

THE-BOSNIAN-BEAST! JUSUUUF NUUURKIC

VS
donkey

It really depends on the exit of his injury, which we don't know, and how fast it's healing, which we also don't know. Typically, players take about 4 weeks to come back from this type of injury, but the severity of the injury can very considerably. I'm sure there have been a lot of players that have played on a non-displaced fracture and didn't even realize they were injured.

The doctors that have access to his x-rays will make the call. They won't rush him back if he's not ready.

If there was a 1% chance he could make the injury worse, just sit it out. I find it hard to believe a fracture would be completely healed in 2 weeks even if it was non-displaced. He might be just fine on it in a straight line and up and down but then turns a certain way and really makes it worse.

At the earliest I can maybe see him back for games 3 and 4 at home. Then it will just be how many minutes he can go after being out for almost 3 weeks.

I'd like a doctor not associated with the team look at him and x-rays and give an opinion.

Non-displaced fracture could mean a lot of things. It could be a hairline crack in the surface of the bone, or it could be broken 99.9% of the way through the bone. Big difference. When bones heal they are stronger than they were before the injury. We know nothing about how deep the fracture was, or how fast it's healing. This isn't ligament or cartridge damage. Soft tissue injures take a lot longer to heal and are much more susceptible to re-injury than bone fractures. This isn't Brandon Roy rushing back to play against PHO 9 days after having part of his meniscus removed.

But even with bone fractures, every fracture and every patient are unique. If the doctors say he can play, he should play. If they say he shouldn't, he won't. Any speculation here, is just that speculation, not informed opinion. I'll let the guys with the diplomas and the M.D, after their names make the call. They've earned that right.

^^^ @Boob-No-More Of course we don't know the specifics. It was just a general guideline as I work with many Doctors and have asked several of them about his injury as much as we know of it. Anything is possible.

Which is why I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Nurk to be re-evaluated. We really don't know anything about the severity of his injury. We just know the general nature of the injury, but none of the details.

if i can play on being fat im pretty sure nurk can play on 1 leg and dominate

Really need to look at big picture! If Nurk is 100% you let him play if not you sit him it's that simple. We ain't winning championship this year and to take a risk on a leg that is only 99% would set us back years. Be patient

Not giving a broken leg more time to heal for a meaningless playoff series......What could go wrong?

Who says it won't have time to heal? Why do you assume so much? You haven't seen the x-rays. You have no idea about the extent of his injury or how it's healing. I'll trust the judgement of the doctors over your paranoia.

Blazers doctors have historically given great advice.

Are these the same doctors? X-rays are pretty easy for someone with medical training to read. This isn't a gray area like a soft tissue injury. The fibula is a non-weight bearing bone (the tibia bears the weight, the fibula is largely just to provide additional surface area for the muscles to attach to it), and again, we have no idea how severe the non-displaced fracture is. It could be a simple stress fracture that's a hairline crack in the surface of the bone, that could heal very quickly, or it could be something more severe.

We don't know. The doctors do.
