The hate for Neil is real

Another key thing he did is getting Dame to sign his supermax the moment he was extension eligible. Were it not for that, we might have been looking down the barrel of a Dame free agency or Dame leveraging his tenuous future here to leave a year earlier.

If we're going to count that as a win, I'm going to count extending CJ as a loss.

I'm not a big fan of Olshey, but I'm not a passionate hater either. We'll let his record speak for itself.

Zach Collins
Traded 2017 pick #15 and pick #20 for pick #10
(passed on Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo, John Collins, and Jarrett Allen)
We mustn't forget that he drafted Damian Lillard. And he traded for Jusuf Nurkic. Here's a quoted from Olshey after the Nurk trade:
"We are pleased to add a young center with Jusuf’s talent and potential to our roster and excited by the prospect of three first round picks to the 2017 NBA draft"
He was more excited about getting that draft pick than he was about Nurk. At least he spun that pick into Zach Collins.

I really liked Gary Trent Jr and was sad when he was traded. But Powell really impressed me. I'm very pleased that he resigned with the Blazers. In my eyes, that trade makes CJ the odd man out. All can be 'forgiven' for Olshey's past sins if he's able to spin the 'CJ asset' into a starting caliber forward. If not, ...
where's Pau Gasol?

uh...I think it's right here..the "he leaves" means trade since he's under contract so I stand by my statement

I mean, has there been any other interpretation could you come up with?

Answer: there isn't.

But I never said he demand(e)d a trade. He just gave the ultimatum.

I'm conflicted. If we didn't have CJ on a big contract we wouldn't be able to fantasize about trading him for Ben Simmons. Does that make it a win or a loss?

It's cj and it's Simmons. It's always a loss no matter how you look at it.

All of it is just part of a bigger problem which is his evaluation of CJ as a player. It's all connected. If he wasn't so attached to CJ, he would have traded him earlier, back when his value was higher, and would never even have had the chance to sign him to that extension.

Exactly. The demand is "make changes". The result of non-compliance will be a trade demand, but that result hasn't occurred...yet.

I'm with you, bro.

Yeah, he was very blunt about the fact that he was more excited about the first round pick than he was about the disgruntled center that he hoped could turn things around.

You both sound absolutely insane. Because he used "pleased" for Jusuf and "excited" for the draft picks it means that he was decidedly more enthused about the draft picks? Perhaps to Neil being "pleased" refers to the presence of a player rather than the lack of presence that a draft pick provides. Perhaps it's hard to be pleased with a draft pick because you don't even know what it is. Perhaps he doesn't see a distinction at all and could simultaneously flip the words around with no comprehensive loss of meaning.

Having the franchise player demand changes or he leaves and then the GM doing nothing is... a breath of fresh air? Am I reading that right?

This is extreme LA smog.
Guess you weren't around when Walton left or when Drexler left. Just because you read about it on pretty much every platform of social media because people want to act like they got an inside scoop doesn't mean this situation has much down side.
Lillard will play this season and most likely next for the Blazers. If he doesn't the Blazers will get a boatload of options, players, and or picks for him.
Go back and look at what the Blazers got for Walton, Drexler, Bowie, Oden, Roy. When you check all that out I hope you start to feel a bit better. If not then you are simply swimming in your own frustration.

If Neil was done, we would have already had a press conference. I keep telling the crazies here, he ain't done.
You're right. There are only 13 roster spots filled, so they can't be done yet. We still have to go through summer league to see if Kenneth Faried or Michael Beasley will "earn" the backup PF spot.

Then we'll be done.

I'll wait before declaring my outrage for Neil and asking for his resignation.

LOL...till when?...the trade deadline?
why not and why would that matter? Not everyone needs to vent rage period over a game with a ball...it's not as serious as armchair GMs think it is...my 2 cents...All I'm waiting for is tip off...whoever is wearing the pinwheel I'm cheering for. Enjoy the ride and let the suits sort out the payroll and staff...if Neil loses his job...no big deal...if they trade Dame and blow it all up I'll still be here ready to cheer on opening night. I don't get the rage at all. I also never got this obsession with a championship...winning one is great but the odds are never great for that come together ..in the meantime...enjoy the game...enjoy the team. I just see a lot of wasted anger prematurely burning down the house before the house is built. I think the team will be just fine moving forward but honestly, I doubt many teams are going to beat a healthy Lakers or Nets roster for a ring next season...it's a big challenge and those teams are stacked

lol..."vent rage"....maybe some are, but my opinion of Olshey hasn't change. The only thing different now Is I think he would rather trade Dame than CJ

after 9 years, we are 8 months away from the trade deadline. "Give Olshey another 8 months before you criticize him" . Yeah, that will fly. And of course, if he fails to do anything of note in the next 8 months, some people will start saying "see what he does in the draft". Then it will be "see what he does in free agency"....then it will be "see what he does by the trade deadline"...rinse/repeat

if Olshey trades Dame and tries to build around CJ, I won't even be watching this team anymore. My fandom is not unconditional

We've met the league minimum for roster spots at 13 and we operated under maximum roster capacity for most of last season. I do think that we'll use the TPMLE. You and @AmirIcon are right, Neil not having had a presser means there is still more to come before he gets in front of the media and tries to sell the roster as one poised to win a championship.

If Dame gets traded, and that's a mighty big IF, the Blazers would more likely be building around whatever player they get back in the deal. If it was for Simmons, I think it's fair to say that he would be the young centerpiece to the Blazers' future. Hopefully, given the disaster that losing Dame's prime would be, the NEW GM would be looking for players to surround Simmons with, not worrying about CJ other than to find him a new team.

If Im not happy with a product and the manufacturer seems to not care, or address my concerns, Ill change products.

I am not going to look it up but I believe there is a CBA trigger that mandates the minimum roster size must be 14 rather than 13. IIRC, it has something to do with what the average roster size was the previous season, for all teams
