The hate for Neil is real

right...some are choosing to bitch about Olshey...others are choosing to bitch about those bitching about Olshey
I'm not interested in having any player in Portland that doesn't want to be here...said it many times...and there's a difference between someone saying they don't get the rage trend and someone bitching....for the record you're not the emo about your opinions...I never read "rage" into your posts but like I said...choices...you do you just understand that's not what all fans base their interest in the team on. I prefer to enjoy the team and find things to enjoy about the team...sort of a photo negative to what a large amount of people here do...I'm used to it. Some folks claim to hate Canzano but post exactly like he writes.....those folks are free to do that...if someone bothers me that much I won't be responding to their posts because I've ignored them ..I'm sure not pissed off at the Blazers

I am not going to look it up but I believe there is a CBA trigger that mandates the minimum roster size must be 14 rather than 13. IIRC, it has something to do with what the average roster size was the previous season, for all teams

The team minimum is 13, but the league guarantees an overall average of 14 players per team and has to pay a surcharge if it's not met.

I'll wait until training camp to pile on and ask for his resignation. Until then, there's plenty of time to operate since none of our targets have been traded.

let me ask a question: is it acceptable to have arrived at the opinion that Olshey should have been fired well before this off-season?

if it is, why would those who believe that wait till training camp to voice their displeasure?

I can answer that if you’ll let me.
Yes absolutely!
Just the contracts from 5-6 years ago would be plenty enough to arrive at that opinion.
I’m hoping he can pull something off this year that goes really well but I don’t have to not want him replaced.

I think it's legitimate to think he deserves to be fired. I think it's illegitimate to think he's done with the roster and cry about it on a message board 15 times a day.

Two very independent ideas.

there's only 13 players on the roster. Of course he's not 'done'. For instance, I'm sure he's searching for a bargain bin type of trade for Jones and will probably sign another vet minimum. I'm skeptical he'll use the TPMLE. But I do not expect any needle moving trade before training camp. Could there be? Sure. But if there aren't and people start complaining about it then, it's absolutely certain that other people will say "he's not done, wait till the trade deadline before complaining"

The majority of posts I see are freaking out thinking he's done and wants to "run it back" because he hasn't done anything yet. Conjecture isn't really helping. It almost sounds like we have more fans who want to see him fail than to see him succeed.

I expect there to be a needle moving acquisition. If not? I'll be right there with you in wanting him gone. Not that difficult to understand.

probs to Wiz, credit where credit is due. Dude saw it 5 years ago that with Olshey the Blazers will be in no mans land

that's mostly fair, although I think you are really overstating the freak-out factor. Have you spent any time in game threads around here? Compared to them, the current emotional angst is kind of mild

I'd also point out that this is the first off-season that has happened with Dame's future as a Blazer in doubt. So, the urge to freak is probably as strong as it has been in the Stolshey era

also, Portland's off-season didn't really start Monday. They could have made trades immediately after Denver bounced them out of the playoffs. That's 2 months ago. All they've done in that time is trade a couple of million for a 2nd round pick

The reality is that the draft is over and free agency is essentially over. There really aren't any needle-moving free agent remaining. So that's not only two of the three roster-building avenues cut off for this season, it's also the two most likely to make a difference. Trades are all that's left, by and large, and trades for impact players are rare and difficult to pull off. So, while it's not impossible that Olshey can still catch that white whale, odds are growing longer and longer.

It's perfectly reasonable to wait until training camp or the season to start before judging. It's also perfectly reasonable to start judging now, because most likely what you see now is the bulk of what you're going to see in a few months. I don't blame anyone for holding onto hope for as long as possible, though.

Have you not listen/read what Olshey said?
He said the 'roster was not the issue'. Everything he's done indicates he 100% wants to 'run it back'.
This is exactly what I was expecting from NO.

"Give it time before you freak out" is a perfectly fair argument for a coach who was just hired. It makes a lot less sense when applied to a GM who has been here for nearly a decade!

Again, letting ownership off the hook for not managing the Portland Subsidiary with right winning management.
Find a worse ownership group in the NBA, you cant including Knicks. All starts there.
Ive never seen a thread targeting critiquing now days (targeting) The Blazers Ownership Group? Is it because of Sportstwo affiliation?

Nobody wants Neil to fail. We all wish he could have succeeded. He had 9 years to do so and has not been able to really make us actual contenders. The only time I felt like we might be there is the year Wes got hurt.

We all want him to be fired now so we can move on.

Most of us were completely fine with him if he did 1 of 2 things. Blow up the team and trade everyone away for picks and young players. Or the preferred option for most, use picks and get upgrades (ala Jrue Holiday for the Bucks).

Neil chose the one bad path there was. The path Dame did not want him to choose. Signed bargain players and got a 2nd round draft pick. I understand we didn't have a ton of assets or tools to use. He has to get creative. He absolutely could pull off a trade between now and the start of the season. Some of us won't be holding our breath on that one.

Neil has had plenty of time where people rooted for him. That time has passed for many of us. He needs to go.

Lobby Jody...I bet if we on this forum started to question ownerships goals and the current management we'd get better results than funneling everything directly to her Key Blazer Employee.

Actually, I posted a snarky comment just the other day about having an ownership that was clueless. My acid pen (keyboard) knows no bounds!

Did he predict that no big stars would show any desire whatsoever to play with Dame in Portland?

what difference does that make? Oh, and both Harden and Chris Paul have listed Portland as a preferred destination

Paul George didn't "want" to play with Westbrook in OKC, but he re-signed there. There are three stars, including the MVP in Milwaukee

Portland isn't going to sign a max contract player, especially with Olshey giving contracts out like CJ and Crabbe and Turner. And wasting a 10th pick on Zach. They have to trade for the star and then convince him to stay. Lots of NBA players love Portland once they are in Portland for a while

Did Harden and Paul both say that?

After I heard what Neil said about Blazers, offending Danny Ainge, I am pretty sure, Neil would love to move to California with Ben Simmons. How can he build anything here, when he openly say Portland is shithole. I would like him gone, just for what I heard on this one occasion. If he say it is impossible to make big trade here, what's the point of keeping him?

because ownership approves of the job he's doing, I guess. Or they dont care?

He said Portland’s a shithole?
