The Nurk injury update thread

Pardon my ignorance, but when you have screws or plates etc put into you like this, are they eventually removed?
They told us my son could leave them in and he'd never notice them at all. There are a few occasions after some time that they can have them removed if they want to though.

They kind of did that last year against the Pelicans, he averaged 17.5 minutes and played in all 4 games. I was expecting them to build on that this year after letting Ed go.

Zach's minutes per game this year though: 17.5
Yeah, It seems like his minutes really went down after Kanter came in, I think he needs to play.

I understand. But seriously i don't have much confidence in Meyers. I want the best. I know he tries really hard. I understand he has stayed positive and has always been ready for whatever he is asked to do...... Oh hell.... Lets see what happens! GO MEYERS!
Meyers is fine. Who knows he may even win a game for us in a playoff series if he hits some flameballs. This is also a reason we signed Kanter. I know his defense isn't as good but he was literally averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds a game this year just like Nurk was.

It’s apparently fairly common but Nurk’s seems particularly exaggerated. I wonder if this is putting extra strain on his bones/joints, especially when he lands? Probably nothing and I’m sure the Blazers training staff have put extra cushioning in his shoe(s) to compensate ...

One of my great objections to the current cap system. A player not on the roster should not count against the cap - period. If the team is willing to take the financial hit of waiving the player, that should be penalty enough. Penalizing the team's ability to compete is just absurd.

that I don't agree with. Rich teams like the Lakers could afford 100-200 million in dead salary; they could just keep rolling the dice until they rolled hard 8's

Wish he could have used that excuse on the WestBrick technical.

Or, and bear with my on this, a GM could not sign stupid contracts that put the team in a bad cap situation.

That is just crazy enough it might work!

OK, how about this: when a GM is fired, the team gets an amnesty slot. It must be used on a player that GM drafted/traded for/signed/re-signed. You couldn't fire Olshey, hire a strawman long enough to dump Turner, fire the strawman, and so on ad infinitum.

Then pretty much every GM would get fired every year!

The NBA needs to do something about this. That’s two injuries to two of our star players in a little over a week as a result of not being able to land after going up for a layup.

Make sense when you talk.

No one can prevent injuries. Nor can they be legislated out of the game.

We have a death penalty for murderers. Do we still have murder in this country?

I did too. My son saw me.

I always tell him never let something you can't control control you.

Then I tell him how hard that is.
I don't think crying qualifies as letting something control you. That's just an involuntary physical manifestation of an emotional state.

It's when people make (poor) choices because of their emotions that they're being controlled by things they can't control.

I've no doubt you've effectively demonstrated the difference to your son.

Ouch.

WTF is up with the ref bumping into Nurk's foot as he's lying on the floor in agony.

I don't know that referee's name but he's a DICK every time I see him ref.

Thinking Kanter will bolster us on offense may be mistaken. Little things Nurk does that Enes can't do nearly as well:

Dribble hand offs.
Sealing off his man.
High post Passing (IMHO Meyers is a better passer. #yesisaidit)

I'm unsure if we can high post him like we do Nurk either.

Meyers is an excellent passer. Doesn't make the clever passes that Nurk does, but his passes are crisp, clean, and on target. He keeps the ball moving.

Kanter has a better J than Nurk, so I think he would bring some value to the high post.

I hear you. While it certainly isn't the ref's fault that he got hurt, and you will never prevent all injuries from happening. I thought the refs in the Brooklyn game did a bad job at setting the tone to give players space to land long before the Nurkic injury. I don't know if it would've changed anything at all, and that's why I'm not blaming them, but there were several times in the game where a player was in the air and someone would jump right underneath them now part of that is just basketball and things will happen. At least in my opinion, though part of what a ref does is set the tone for what's over the line and what isn't, it's the tone of the game and how physical it will be. I'm ok with a physical game and all that but the chance for injury goes up when "dangerous" plays are allowed to happen with no calls because as players they're going to do whatever they can get away with. If those plays are being allowed they'll keep doing it. I know you have an incredible eye for the game but to me, there were many occasions where Dudley in particular (but other guys too on both teams), did not give a player space to land and that's dangerous and they need to be called early. That could have happened in a perfectly officiated game, and sometimes horribly officiated games don't result in any injuries at all.

Again like I said in another thread. It isn't the refs' fault Nurk got hurt, no one wanted that to happen to anybody.
