You misspelled LMA...

Funny. ;). Except that I truly feel if LMA just got a little dirty, he would be a low post playmaker. No matter how dirty Nico gets, he will never be a playmaker on this team and that's coming from a guy who had Nico as his favorite player and biggest X factor to take us to the promised land...until a year ago.

Nic absolutely is a playmaker. Just for others not himself. And a year ago Nic had just finished arguably his best season in the NBA. You mean 6 months ago I take it?

what???? Batum was second on the team in assists

Maybe I am reading this wrong. I am reading it as guys who can create their own shot and draw double teams, leaving others open they can then dump off to. A PLAYMAKING facilitator. Nico only gets his assists because Rolo rolls to the hoop better than most centers.
I do not see Nic as a playmaking facilitator, only a pick and roll facilitator, or a 3pt, dump to LMA in the post facilitator. This is all timing, not playmaking and n my opinion that's a HUGE difference.

In no realm will LMA ever be a good passer - he has blinders on whenever the ball is in his hands. His court-vision and awareness is abysmal. And this past season he even stopped kicking out of the post when doubled.

Kevin Pelton's take on Joel:

Narrow question: If the Blazers don't extend a QO to Joel Freeland, as has been reported, is he as good as gone? Or is there a good reason to let him be a UFA even if you want to retain his services? Also, how would you value a competent but injury-prone backup center like Joel? Thanks!

I can't think of a lot of examples off the top of my head of teams declining the qualifying offer and re-signing the player, but it's logical in scenarios where it exceeds the player's value. That's the case here, with Freeland due $3.8 million on the qualifying offer. His value is probably somewhere between the veteran's minimum and the $3 million he made last year.

get Afflalo to opt in so they could send him for Haywood and 24? It'd be good to get a pick out of him

Haywood's deal isn't guaranteed, right? If that's the case, then hellz yes. Otherwise the price is too steep, unless Afflalo was going to opt in anyway.

It's not. It's non gaurunteed or maybe $2M at the most. Cleveland/Afflalo would be prefect for each other. We could use 24 as another asset to move up or take Delon Wright AND Justin Anderson or Robert Upshaw

unguaranteed, needs to be picked up by August 1st. And it jumps from 2.5 or so, to 10.5 million. So he'd make, potentially, a pretty great trade chip.

Would be a guy to use in potential sign and trades. I think Cleveland is satisfied with their bigs and they got SF and PG coveted. They'll be looking for a vet SG to hit shots and play solid D. Haywood would make it possible to keep everyone and go trade for a Hibbert or S&T him and Kaman for DeAndre or any other max player. Hell we could send him to a team trying to dump salary and get a solid piece while preserving our MLE all whIle getting an extra pick.
Man I wish I could be GM for a day

Haywood's salary after July 1st could bring in a player making up to 15.8 million. Trade agreed to on draft day by all 3 parties, executed July 10th after moratorium. Afflalo to Cleveland for Haywood and 24. Haywood and 24 flipped to Indy for Hibbert. Essentially Afflalo for Hibbert, but we can't make it an actual 3 team trade because Afflalo can't bring back that amount by himself.
Obviously, depends on if Aldridge is sticking around.

"The one thing that we did see in Golden State, and it was something that was very difficult for us to deal with, is they have an incredibly versatile team of multiple facilitating playmakers," Griffin said. "That's something we're going to continue to work upon. The more playmaking facilitators you have that know how to play the game, the better off you are, and I think you saw the value of that in the team that ultimately did win."

And that right there is the reason why We need to replace Nic, among a couple other changes.

"Work upon," lol...

I'd probably do that even if LA left. Leonard+Hibbert frontcourt would be sweet.

Sixers 2014 draftee Dario Saric will not play for the 76ers next season his agent, Jeff Schwartz, tells ESPN. Link coming >>>>>

This is the risk with Euros. You never know when they'll come over and ACB teams are throwing big money.

Abrines, who went #32 and would've been a first rounder if he said he'd come over right away, just signed an extension through 2019 -- the buyout is hefty, too.

This is why I'd have some reservations about Hernangomez if a prospect on the similar tier/upside is there - like a Looney, Wright or Upshaw, even with his red flags. Hernangomez plans to re-sign with Real Madrid this summer.

You know you're on the very bottom of the NBA totem pole when Charlotte is chosen to host the ASG over you.

The issue is hotel space.

Three high-rises are about to break ground in downtown Portland, and that doesn't even include the HQ in the Lloyd.

Still, I don't care for the game. It happens during the rainiest month. That makes a difference in what you can do. The Timbers are lucky with this summer climate. What they were able to do last summer at their All-Star game trumps anything the NBA has done in forever.

Yeah, the ASG sucks ass and has for some time, but it sucks being down on the bottem with SLC and Okie town. Actually, i'm sure the Okies will get it before us.

Listening to ESPN LA, Ramona Shelbourne just said the Lakers/Nugs/Magic trying to get Boogie, but SAC does not want to let him go.

If he even becomes even the least bit available, we better be involved.

Anthony Bennett is on the block again. Could be playing for his 3rd team in 3 years. Can a team get decent production out of him or is hopeless? At least Oden had talent. His issues were injuries. This dude doesn't seem to have the talent part (yet).

I doubt Cousins get's moved. But if he does... The Nuggets have a great package they can offer.

Faried, Gallo, Jokic and #7 for Cousins would be a great haul.

He needs a team that can utilize his skillset correctly. Memphis would be perfect.

Just wait until we show the Kings our package. They won't have any idea what to do with it.

With Charlotte winning the 2017 bid I can assume we won't be having an all star game here any time soon.
