I’m on my flight right now and can’t find it... did anybody see that tweet today that KD and Klay want to play together next season, wherever it is. Gonna go try to find it.

Not bad stats in limited minutes. This is the exact type of value guy that Neil is great at targeting. He's a capable big to play defense, catch lobs, and do not much else. Houston could probably replace Capela with this guy and lose not too much.

Plus: when he blocks a shot you can display "Cheicked at the rim!" on the jumbotron. I know the people that run these things love bad puns.
Yeah Diallo was a good player on both sides. Limited offensively but solid. Would be a very good tax-MLE target.

On Bill Simmons podcast Marc Stein speculated New Orleans makes sense as the mystery team that will sign Horford for 4 years 100 million.

I really like that roster with Horford! They could be a playoff team and even finish above the Lakers which would be awesome.

Horford Okafor
Zion
Ingram Moore
Hart
Jrue Lonzo

Plus they control Lakers picks until 2025.

Hilarious. That team is not finishing above LeBron and AD.

Meh. Hard pass.
We need big depth. A guy that plays good defense and can defend a little bit out on the perimeter and inside, and he finishes well around the rim (63% from 2pt last year), can hit from in-between (50% from 10-16ft last year) can knock down FTs (75% last year), can rebound (13rpg per 36 last year), and he's still only 22 years old? That's not intriguing to you?

Straight dump, yes.

We only needed to dump 2 M before the Turner trade, which we could do with just Skal. We picked up some salary in the deal though so I’m not sure if just dumping Skal is enough now. I think they could dump Skal and revoke Layman’s QO to open up the full MLE though....not sure on that one.

So, if we could sign Kanter for full MLE but have to give up Hark OR layman/skal...would you?

I know Quick said that but it's not true. I've shown the math several times. We need to cut enough to use the Full-MLE and sign 3-4 other guys. Do you really want 3 rookie free agents to fill out our roster or do we need enough to sign better vet minimum guys too?

If I remember correctly, I believe we added an additional 660 k in salary in the trade for Bazemore.

What the hell are Suns doing?

All their moves look ridiculously dumb:

  • Trading down to take Cam Johnson at 11 (probably wouldn’t have gone before 20 anyway, and at 24 doesn’t project to be more than a decent rotation wing) and expiring Dario Saric
  • Trading up to get Ty Jerome, yet another project guard to bury with Okobo and Melton
  • Giving away a decent no. 32 to move TJ Warren, who wasn’t even that bad of a contract, to open up cap space they will probably not be able to do much with anyway, and then absorbing Aron Baynes to get Jerome anyway which makes it almost a moot point
Ridiculous. It’s like they are trying to sabotage themselves.
Or they're the team that's moving to Seattle!

Kanter isnt waiting until august
We can trade Bazemore by himself at any time. It's not happening but they can do it.

I would rather straight dump Bazemore.
Did you watch the press conference today? Olshey won't be trading Bazemore unless it's part of a deadline deal for a star.

Once you fill out the rotation, I don’t think the 12-15th man matter. We aren’t thin like the rockets who needed to rely on Daniel House.

No, I didn't watch it. Was there great fanfare for a player who scores at the same level as Al-Farouq Aminu and will make $19 million next season?

Pelicans really going all in for FA

Very confused by this line of thinking. Were they afraid Diallo and/or Johnson would sign their QO? Absent that, they still would have the same amount of cap space available; all they'd have had to have done was renounce a QO if they signed a FA. I really don't get limiting their options like this.

I'm going to have to copy and paste this a lot.

Without Layman Total Salary: $128,863,258 (give or take a few $100,000 for Little's actual signing number)
Dame
CJ
Baze
Nurk
Harkless
Leonard
Zach
Simons
Trent
Skal
Little

11 players under contract. Full-MLE is expected to be $9,246,000. Tax apron for the hard cap expected to be around $138,000,000.

Salary after signing someone to the MLE: $138,109,258 with only 12 players. We pretty much have to have 15 with Nurk already injured.

Minimum salary for players who have never played a game in the NBA: $897,158.

Sign three of those guys to fill out the roster give us $140,800,732 or over the hard cap by $2,800,732 (subject to a slight variance depending on actual cap numbers). Dumping Skal doesn't quite get us there. Plus for each player you dump you have to add another $897,158.

So if we'd need to at the absolute minimum dump $3,697,890 if we aren't taking a player back. That leaves 4 undrafted rookies that haven't signed with other teams as our 12-15 players on the roster and we'd have 5 rookies including Little. If we had a 10 man rotation that would mean all but one player on the list of current contracts would have to be part of our rotation. That's a bit crazy. That team is a big step down from last year's team and even worse if guys like Simons and Little aren't ready for more action.

They'd have to make a trade like Harkless for Langston Galloway to save $3.8 million but doesn't also take a roster spot away. Even better if we could trade Harkless for two decent players together that add up to around $8 million. Until something like that happens though these are the facts without Layman.

If Layman signs his QO or re-signs for more it makes it even more difficult.
