THE "OFFICIAL" AROUND THE NBA 2012-13 THREAD........... (1 Viewer)

- The Nuggets are a legitimate contender and create match-up problem for the likely #2-4 seeds. Their height and rebounding creates match-up issues for the best teams in the West.

Why the #2 seed and not the #1 seed? There's not that big of a difference, is there? Who is this #1 seed you think they can't beat?

- The Nuggets have had the toughest schedule in the NBA thus far, and their record (and especially not one particular loss) can be taken for a measure of their ability.

Yes, but they are vets who should understand how to win on the road, especially if theyre going to upset your #2-4 seed. The Blazers had to work 5 people who had never played in the NBA before into the rotation while playing 12 of their first 19 on the road. That seems a lot more challenging to me and yet, they have a 15-14 record, one less loss than the experienced Nuggets.

- The New York Knicks are not as good as their current record, and factors that include J.R. Smith, their age, Amare Stoudemire, etc. will eventually bring them down to reality. "Reality" might mean 2nd or 3rd place in the East, but the Knicks wouldn't have home court advantage, in my opinion, if they played an 82 game season out West.

You make no sense. They are currently in 2nd place. How can they be brought down to 2nd place? I personally think they're better than the record because Melo has been out a lot. I've seen them play on TV and in person and I think they could win it all this year. Heat fans must be somewhat concerned.

Those were my points. I'm tired of arguing the petty bullshit, as I'm sure you are. Happy New Years to you all...

happy new year

No, your point was that they had this great record despite injury problems, whereas they were clearly only down two injured players this year who were both detriments to the team - Shumpert and Stoudemire, whereas Felton has only missed the past two games, and they've looked like clowns without him.

Shumpert is erratic. He's not built to be an NBA point guard, at least at this point. His decision making is laughable, and I'm not just talking about his poor FG% and turnovers. I'm saying that he even plays worse than those statistics, if you'd actually watch him play.

You have to be a complete idiot to think that the Western teams don't have a harder grind than the Knicks.

Beating the Miami heat twice is grounds for being a great team?

How about this...

The Grizzlies blew out the Knicks, they blew out the Heat, they blew out the Lakers, they blew out the Thunder in OKC, they have a better record, they play in the West, yet the Knicks still receive ten times the national media attention.

Not to mention, to the original point, that the Knicks' Heat wins really don't mean much when they're not facing the type of schedule the Nuggets have faced. You've still yet to address that one.

The holes in your logic are gaping kid. So because ESPN Magazine (not ESPN, but "ESPN Magazine") made some bold prediction about the Nuggets to attract readership, that means that most analysts were high on Denver? That's not the case at all. In fact, J.A. Adande, who writes for ESPN Magazine, was embarrassed by that projection. The reality is that most analysts did not expect them do be doing as well as they are (and will eventually be) doing.

When I reference stats, it's because it's something that's applicable to what's going on, and they're pertinent to the discussion. I don't just say stupid things like "THIS TEAM HAD A BETTER RECORD THAN THAT TEAM!" ... I bring in specifics. "Stat Geek" may have been a misuse of words... maybe "fantasy basketball geek?" Stats geek is too complimentary for someone who doesn't understand the statistics involved.

And by the way, cut out the "learn the game," bullshit. You're trying to be a flamer, and it ain't working.

You failed to address any of my real points. You failed to talk about either teams style of play. You also failed to think big picture. Overall, you failed to say anything.

5 minutes left in the Orl/Miami game and the Magic's rookie Voolachiasouich or whatever his name is has 25 REBOUNDS!

They got a gem in Vucevic.

Considering Dwight's back injury and the severe nerve damage (I'd put money on that he'll never be the same player) the Magic made out just fine.

he has almost as many rebounds as the whole Miami Heat team does.

Vucevic's looked good all year long, averaging close a double double on the year and getting better

IIRC he has a 9'5" standing reach. With his high IQ, age and size his potential is very nice. I'd hate myself if I were Philly right now. Would much rather roll with Vucevic than Bynum at this point.

29 boards? Why, that's 8 games for LaMarcus!

20/29 and his team loses the game.

Kevin Love, you have some competition in the stat stuffing on a losing team category.

Nice to see the Nets get obliterated in the second half against the Spurs.

Why? I root against the Spurs as much as possible. I actually like the Nets, I thought you did to.

The Nets don't really matter to me, and I'm not speaking for Vinyard, but I find it amazing that a team with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Brook Lopez, and Kris Humphries in their rotation has a worse record than the Blazers at this point.

Deron Williams ran Jerry Sloan out of Utah, and now he's doing his best to kill another franchise.

I did think they were going to be alot better then they are! That said....... I thought the Knicks would suck!

Dwight looked good against us

And you thought the Lakers would be good. The Knicks are legit contenders. Two champions in their starting lineup.

Learn the game, then post.

espn

Kevin Durant led 2012 with 3,137 points (including postseason). LeBron James was 2nd with 3,010 & Kobe Bryant was 3rd with 2,751.

Most rebounds in 2012: Howard - 1,070. Assists: Rondo - 1,113. Steals: Paul - 258. Blocks: Ibaka - 378. Fouls: Griffin - 336.

New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire will make his season debut on Tuesday against Portland, league source tells Y! Sports.

It was just sarcasm on my part. The Nets were keeping up with the Spurs in the 1st half, but only scored 5 points in the 3rd quarter. I didn't bother watching the rest.

I'm amazed how they have fallen apart thus far this season despite having a very solid start. Deron Williams needs to stop playing like some mediocre guard.

Dwight with another game where he moved like a 36 y/o Dale Davis.

The athletic decline from this back injury is shocking.

Not to revive the exchange of diatribes a few pages back, but the story of the night in the basketball world has got to be the Clippers losing their first game since November to the Denver Nuggets and losing badly.

Regardless of a particular poster's opinion of the Nuggets, the reality is that they're going to be a huge match-up nightmare for the Clippers, Grizzlies, or Spurs. The Nuggets might be a 4 seed or they might be an 8 seed, but either way, none of those three teams want to see the Nuggets in the playoffs.

20 pts 29 rebs

MIA with 33 total rebs.

Vucevic was great, but Battier has a lower rebound rate than Ray Allen. It's about match-ups, in the second half Miami improved and were nearly on par with the Magic in rebounding. I would simply avoid playing Battier at the four in the future, he should only be there during certain times.

Minnesota must be losing tonight. Otherwise this would be a hot thread.
