Fiancee was just emailed from her work that she can get the vaccine asap. Not forced, however for now.
 
I will get the vaccine because I believe in science. I also would like to not get Covid. I also get flu shots. I’m not an anti vax lunatic. The world has been working day and night for a vaccine and now leave it to dumbfuck Americans to be scared of it.

There have already been hundreds of thousands of test dummies... They had the vaccine in January.

There have been no long term side effects.

Additional boosters may be necessary in upcoming years — the current vaccines have been tested only over a period of six months, and it is possible immunity could wane.

I'm low on the totem pole to receive it, so chances are millions will be getting it before I do or I can, so I'll see how the larger scale tests are so I can make an informed decision. I certainly won't be trying to cut the line, go right ahead!

And long term side effects from vaccines nearly always show up within 2 weeks.

So hundreds of thousands, over 6 months. We've passed the test dummy stage.

Literally nothing to be concerned about. All of the adults rejected Trump's efforts to take shortcuts, and they did the trials correctly.

These vaccines are safe. If they were going to give us unsafe vaccines we would have been rolling them out over last spring and summer.

I believe this is the first wide-scale distribution of an mRNA vaccine. This is a totally different mechanism versus weakened strained vaccines. We will see results when hundreds of millions of people get it over time. If it seems good after that, I'll probably get it. We don't even know how long this vaccine will confer immunity.

I wouldn't want to be the first ones the give this to on a large scale, especially after only 6 months of testing subjects. I imagine the therapies they find most effective in a year will look quite different from what's available now.

But if they are safe, start stabbin' away. I'll be waiting on the sidelines with a cup of coffee and everyone in front of me can be the safety net.

Don't get me wrong. I don't personally care if you trust the science on the vaccine. You are welcome to make up your own mind.

I do care that your public objections and concerns are challenged and/or answered.

There is no logical reason to fear this vaccine. Especially after the thorough trials it just passed.

MRNA does not interact with your DNA cells in any way. They merely introduce a partial spike protein which is unique to SARS-CoV-2.

This protein is broken down naturally by the body and discarded. In this process the body learns to identify and destroy any cells which carry the spike protein in any potential SARS-CoV-2 infection early enough to prevent infection.

There is no mechanism in which this could make you ill or cause long term side effects, unless you're one of the very few people who are allergic to many many things.

And you would already know if you are one of those people.

Also, how long it will it be effective for is unknown. You know, since they only have 6 months of data. They will still be studying the effects of this vaccine as its being administered to the general public. Its an emergency use authorization. The litmus for its safety and approval to use is a cost benefit analysis. The bar is lowered because they don't have enough data for how long it works and what are the long term effects, which have not be conclusively established.

We will know more once we start injecting the vulnerable in nursing homes en masse I guess and see how they react.

I'm not saying that its a bad thing and no one should be vaccinated, but to unequivocally state that you should have no fear or skepticism whatsoever at taking this vaccine is foolish.

1. The Vaccine is not FDA Approved.
2. We don't know how long it confers immunity.
3. We don't know long term side effects or all possible side-effects that can occur. It is still being studied in a clinical trial and while they have noted side effects in the 20,000 people who got the vaccine, who knows what pops up when that number has reached 20 million people or 200 million people or is administered to a vulnerable population.

People need to do their own due diligence and make an informed decision rather than just open their arms and assume that everything will be hunky dory.
