Harvard types hem and haw, at least the ones I've known. Too much depth. Princeton types try to use the biggest words they can. Yalies are real cards, struggling to keep straight faces. They're the only ones who don't hesitate to speak.

Thank you for the insight.

I get my injection soon. I'm now on the list at the VA hospital. I presume it will happen next week but I'm not sure. They asked me yesterday if I wanted the shot, I said yes and they told me they're putting me on the list and that we could expect our shots soon. All my nurses and technicians have received their first vaccinations already with a booster to come in 21 days.

So what is the official process of getting the vaccine? I have heard nothing. Order, rules, locations? Does somebody contact US?

Well Health officials are worried that some of the virus strains will bypass the vaccine. They also fear we won't get enough vaccinated in a timely manner. So ya, we could be fucked.

Order and rules are up to each state. You're best off contacting your personal doctor and/or your insurance company and inquiring.

We're fucked.

Putting younger teachers ahead of the elderly is insane. So science is not really a factor after all. Fucking teachers union. I guess the free babysitting that the teachers provide is more important.

Brown defends decision to let teachers get Covid-19 vaccines before seniors

"“I’m asking these seniors to hold tight and stay safe for a few more weeks,” Brown said. “Many Oregonians are eager to get the vaccine. We are managing a scarce resource now. I wish we had more vaccines to give. Time and again this pandemic has forced difficult choices.”

Yes, I read that before I posted, which is why I came to this forum to vent. Older people die from covid at a much higher rate. A much higher rate. End of debate.

Question. Has Oregon used up all their allotted vaccines? She says she wishes they had more, but have they given everything out they do have? Everyone knew eventually the vaccine would be coming. Why are so many states slow to have a better plan?

This is a month or so old from a KGW report about Covid-19 deaths in Oregon, but I don’t see any reason why the proportions would change:

“More than half of those deaths are people 80 years old and over. Those between 70 and 79 years old made up about 22% of the death total. People 60-69 years of age made up roughly 15%.”

And we can assume that the misery of those who get really sick, but don’t die is hitting that same age range. A two week delay in vaccination of the most vulnerable population is practically criminal negligence in my view. And for what? If teachers start getting vaccinated next week, they won’t get their second dose until mid- to late-February. They won’t be fully immune until two weeks later. That means schools could start up mid-March or so. That is exactly when the new more transmissible variant is supposed to be the dominant strain in Oregon. Schools in Europe, where that variant is running wild, are shutting down because kids are getting infected and taking it home to their parents. Teachers may be immune, but the parents won’t be. This has the potential to cause huge impacts on community spread and the most vulnerable will be two or more weeks behind the curve in getting vaccinated. Madness.

Proud old people, stand back and stand by!

My wife is a retired teacher of 40 years and is bothered at this because she knows that the teachers will get their vaccine and most districts wont go back this year anyway. Plus substitutes availability is not there.

I say we form up an army of gray hairs to descend on the Capitol with walkers, canes and wheelchairs and chanting, “Hey, Kate, what do you say, how many geezers did you kill today?”
