OT The OFFICIAL RipCityTwo "footy" thread (sponsored by HCP and the USF Don's women's team)

I'm know there are advanced stats, but you really have to dig. They never show those on broadcasts.

Worked my first game for PRIME on Friday for the Thorns game. Wonder if anybody watched and what they thought of it compared to our normal APPLE NWSL show.

Soccer is strange in that there aren't many stats really. There isn't other stats counted that can show a players impact it seems. My daughter's senior season in HS, the other teams basically double teamed and marked her all game long trying to keep her form even getting the ball. Her goal and assist numbers went down. So if you looked at the stats and didn't watch the games, you'd think she struggled. Ironically her two other forwards on her team had career highs in goals. Such a strategic game.
Of course the same thing is true in Basketball, which is why Curry was robbed of the Finals MVP when Iguodala got it (not that I minded at the time).

This is why you have to actually WATCH football ("soccer") not just read it.

Can I find it in my heart to feel sorry for Man U. fans? No, I cannot.

Everton fans, on the other hand...

I think one of the best stats is passing accuracy.

Love how the networks came together for her last game. You could watch on like 6 different ones to see the game.

Oh look, Harry Kane, playing in his 100th game for England, just scored a thumping goal.

Harry Kane still washed I don’t care if he scored 2 goals. We gonna forget he missed an easy header the game before?

We gonna forgive him if Bayern loses Bundesliga again?

When Leeds last won the league (which was so long ago it wasn't the Premier League yet) they did it with a big lumbering center forward called Lee Sharpe, who had a great quote: "If I'd've had more talent I wouldn't have scored as many goals".

When England find a player who can reliably do what Kane does, then he can step down. Maybe it'll be Ollie Watkins, maybe not. But that day is not today, or likely soon.

One thing I’ve never understood about soccer is how you can’t really play players out of their usual position. Which is why you can’t just put Saka in Kanes position, because he always plays as a winger.

Kind of like how having Mbappe playing outside of where he always played for PSG has led to a really surprising/disappointing start for him with Madrid.

Tough start for Leeds… Losing to Burnley today when they dominated possession.

Keep your head up, they’ll be alright I think.

Shocker of the week is Nottingham Forest getting the 1-0 away victory against Liverpool.

Very early, but that’s still a massive blow to Liverpools EPL championship hopes.

Likewise it is great for Forest fans as they watch teams like Southampton and Everton fight against relegation. Ipswich got a point against Crystal Palace today, which will be disappointing to them considering they were up 2-0 at one point.

Forest has done well in the EPL since their promotion a couple of seasons ago.

10 minutes until Munich destroy Holstein and Harry Kane delights Munich fans with a goal against a club likely to be relegated to the 2 Bundesliga.

Still think Liverpool loss is most shocking, but rivaling it is Everton out to an early 2-0 @ Villa in the first 25 minutes!

Elsewhere, 30 minutes in and Munich up 3-0. Kane has a goal and an assist because he heard Rasta is an England fan which defends him.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. I never get a chance to watch and these are great updates.

Oh yeah, my daughter's team got stomped 4-1 by LSU at home on Thursday......ouch.

I saw your post in the OT thread and checked the score earlier. Tough loss, but losses build character and your daughter still young in her collegiate career.
Yeah, beating the teams they should and losing to the ones they should...... sounds like the definition of mediocracy....HA!

Ollie Watkins brace levels it 2-2

Wont be surprised to see Villa win this one

Champions league under way today

Some good matches

Wow announcer just said that is Aston Villas first CL goal since 1983. Didn’t realize they’d been Europa/Conference that long

Oregon HS girls soccer update:

The defending 6A state champs and #3 team in the state SMASHED them chumps from #1 Jesuit 5-1 yesterday!!!! I was screaming, “WELCOME TO THE EASTSIDE!” “THESE ARE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS!!!!!” “NOT PAYING ANY PLAYERS OVER HERE IN THE HOOD!!!!” HA!

Lord have Mercy.

Munich have scored 8 goals and Kane has 4 of them. Munich will lead the table after round 1.

Make that 9 goals

I'd like to gloat but three of those 4 were penalties. It's getting so most of Kane's goals are penalties. (Of course, with England's history of penalties, it's good to have a reliable penalty taker...)
