There's not a chance in hell Melo waives that trade clause to come to PDX. He will end up in Houston and sounds like we won't have shit to do with facilitating it. Which honestly might end up being the best thing for us.

Yeah Anderson was such a great shooting threat for the Rockets in the playoffs, so much better than Melo!

The last two times Melo was in the playoffs, he shot .298 and .222 from three-point range. His overall shooting efficiency has been horrendous his last three playoffs. Playoff performance is not what you want to be hanging your argument on, tbh.

One of the teams that New York and Houston had hoped would facilitate a multi-team trade for Anthony -- the Portland Trail Blazers -- only plans to participate in a deal for Anthony if he decides to expand his no-trade clause to include the Trail Blazers, league sources told ESPN.

I have a personal trainer that i'm pretty close with who today tells me, that he watched game 5 last night with a Blazer front office exec. He says he talked informally about Blazers plans or what they're looking to do in the draft. Source said that the Blazers are talking with the Knicks about a Leonard+15 swap for Carmelo (other players would be involved, but they weren't mentioned).

A couple of big caveats:

  • The Blazers are eyeing a player or two in the mid-lottery, and if able to get them, the Knicks deal will not go thru
  • Its dependent on Carmelo allowing the trade

Disclaimer: don't shoot the messenger

EDIT:

something like this would work

Leonard/Festus/Davis -> Melo/O'Quinn

Melo is much more than a shooter though, dude can score from anywhere on the floor. He's a post threat, he can ISO. Anderson is so limited, basically a 6'10 version of Crabbe.

The Blazers only plan to participate in a NYK - Houston trade for Carmelo if Anthony waives his no trade clause and comes here to Portland?

I dont want Carmelo or Anderson

That's why I referenced his overall shooting efficiency. That takes everything he does into account (pretty literally--Melo contributes nothing beyond isolation scoring). His TS% (which accounts for free throws and three-pointers) has been terrible his last three playoffs, which takes us back to 2010-11. Unless you think we'll be getting 25-year old Melo, I think that's as much as is even close to relevant.

His numbers would be so much better with actual good offensive players next to him, look at the Olympics. In NYK his best teammates were Tyson Chandler (all-defense) and JR Smith (wild card).

I would love to trade for either Carmelo or Anderson... both players are a talent upgrade and give Blazers a better shot to compete... you won't get better talent than those two with the assets we are offering in trade. That's as good as you can hope for without offering CJ. Again, I don't understand why so many in here are concerned about Paul Allens money more so than even Paul Allen himself if he is willing to make those trades... it's baffling
100% agree. I would like your post 1000 times if I could.

He's a much more diverse scorer, no doubt, but there are diminishing returns with good one on one players. With Dame, CJ, Nurk and Anderson, the Blazers will have all the offensive firepower they need. Carmelo will be like LA, he'll want shots, and he'll take a lot of mid range shots. I'd rather have a a guy like Anderson.

If Melo is such a talent, why don't the Knicks suck less? He's getting on and he's one of those players that needs the team to be built round him (and to make up or his deficiencies in things like defense). He's a ball-stopper, that wouldn't work with Stott's system, and he's not as good as Dame these days. And he's ridiculously overpaid.
Anderson is a taller Kyle Korver, only paid ridiculous amounts. Yes, it's Paul Allen's money, but it will also prevent us getting any better, and he's not the final piece. At this pint he probably gives away more points than he scores. I'm not a fan of Kevin Love, but Love does at least two more things than Ryan Anderson does.

Basketball is not the same as Fantasy Basketball. Playing Anderson or Carmelo only makes sense if they're featured in the offense, because they're a downgrade in every other respect. But seeing players who don't give a shit on D get paid ten times what you're paid and get all the shots you're not getting is not good for morale. Particularly if it's clear that Portland is not where they wanted to be.

Fuck the Rockets they have nothing to trade for Carmelo let's get him ourselves. I've been on team Melo in past arguments on here and still feel he has something good to offer.

Yes please on getting him here. Worst case, he leaves after this year, and we perhaps shed Meyers deal.

One of their beatwriters said NY is targeting Harkless as a key player in the package they want. This was tweeted during the HOU/POR/NY rumors though.

Knowing that our rookies can't be traded until December - I'm fine with the idea of Melo.

It keeps Houston from getting better and we consolidate the roster to give Swanigan and Collins a chance to develop.

We have four All Star level talents which is what you need to compete with GS.

I'm good with harkless and Leonard for Carmelo easily

Our rookies can be traded 30 days after signing their deal, unless it changed in the new cba, but I don't believe it has. Different than free agents
