The date will be tricky with the holidays coming soon. I mean with people on vacation and whatnot. We could still do it if say...the people going on vacation and not gonna access a computer could submit like a big list of their rankings of players and send it to one of the mods running the draft or something.

Just pitching ideas.

im open to giving out my cell number, and maybe a few others so we can make them by phone. say if i am at work, i can text my pick to someone who can post it, etc. might help speed things up.

Finally seeing the light and realizing that to make the big bucks you gotta sell your body eh?

:P

That would work too, using phone to text. Great idea.

I would prefer to do it GM Draft style.

I was on AIM last night with DD and we went over a few things. I'll offer my suggestions here as a starting point for discussion.

1. I would like to see us create what I call a "logical" schedule. It would be a calendar with games scheduled on the various days. The calendar or schedule is "logical" because it really isn't bound to the physical calendar. Meaning, we could play the games of Dec. 6th from the logical calendar in March. We could play a week's worth of games all in one day. In our league, the games would be played on Dec. 6th...

2. I would like to see us draft players based upon LAST year's play. This means we're playing the first SIM season using 2008-2009 players/stats. Vince Carter of the Nets, Ben Gordon of the Bulls, Hedo of the Magic, and so on. We'd be drafting guys knowing what they're doing in real life this year. It gives us a strategic play to draft some guy who was hurt last year, but we get to KEEP (it's a keeper league, right?) for next season.

3. Since we'd be using last year's stats/results, we know who was injured and for how long. I personally think that dealing with injuries adds to the realism of a SIM league. Kirk Hinrich played in 51 games last season. We can derive a formula and roll dice or use a random number generator to determine injuries. Hinrich's odds of missing a game would be 31/82 and his odds of missing a long stretch would be on the order of 31 games. We can't be that deterministic about injuries if we go with the current season's play.

The alternative that DD suggested is we play along with the real life schedule and when Kirk Hinrich gets hurt for 2 weeks, he's unavailable (in real time) to play in the SIM games. The downsides to this rule would mean that we can't take our time to do the draft, and we can't simulate a whole 82 game season (16+ games already passed!). If the draft takes a month, we might be able to SIM a half a season (41 games).

i don't really like this. i'd prefer if we were going on what's happening right now.

i like drexlersdad's idea. if hinrich misses two weeks of real time, he misses two weeks of sim time.

how does that really effect the draft? if half of the real season is done by the time the draft is finished, we can still sim the full season. if hinrich missed two weeks, then he'll still miss those two weeks of sim time. if that's going to be too much working for the person actually doing the sim(which it could be as there have been a lot of injuries of varying times), we could come to some agreement to only worry about the major injuries(the guys who will miss the majority of games while we catch up) initially to get things going before switching to having guys miss games as they miss them in real life.

How do you tell the difference between DNP-CD and injury?

I agree real life would be cool, player gets injured in real nba, and same happens sim league, that every one has to deal with injuries and it'll test the gm skills.

So Denny, will we redo this year's draft based on the new standings we get from the first season?

I'm down for whatever, let's get this thing on the road though :)

I thought the idea was a keeper league, so next year we'd just draft from the rookies and other players not on our rosters.

Looking at the first page, it looks like all 30 spots have been taken.

Lets do it guys, set up a date for the draft and while we're doing that we can set up the rules.
