This is the weirdest take to me.
People seem not to understand that situations can change.
It’s like marriage or even dating someone.
“I won’t leave you”.
Then they go and cheat on you.
Or abuse you.
So you could be loyal to your spouse, and even say, “til death do us part” …
But if that person keeps cheating on you or abusing you, you’d be a fool to still be “true to your word” hoping that “they’ll change this time”.
So he may want to finish his career in Portland, he may be loyal to Portland, and he may not want to run from the grind… but Portland management is abusing Dame’s loyalty and have blatantly lied to his face.
If your friend was in a relationship with someone who repeatedly lied to them, cheated on them, and beat them … would you tell them “Hey, you agreed to stay until death, so you better do that or your not loyal!”?
I doubt it.
And obviously it was a strong example that isn’t apples to apples, but you get the picture. It’s a much toned down version.
