If it's this or a Miami offer that includes Jaquez, then give me the Miami offer. NO GRADEY DICK FOR GOD'S SAKE

can you properly make the case for jaquez over gradey? just curious.

because I have to think miami would have taken gradey if he dropped to 18.

I like basics of a Blazer/Toronto/Phoenix trade. It could go a couple of different ways depending on the end goals of each team.

I don't play with the online trade tools very much, but here's an example of one that works if -
1. The Blazers want young talent for Lillard.
2. The Blazers want to upgrade their center.
3. Toronto wants Lillard.
4. Toronto wants to keep their core top 3 players (Siakam, Anunoby, Poeltl) to be able to contend now.
5. Phoenix wants to cut costs and gather assets.

Blazers currently have 9 players on the roster that are 23 years old or less. That's 60% of their roster. I think the team needs some balance. The above trade brings in Barnes and Dick. Two young prospects that were lottery picks. It also upgrades the Blazers center position while going 4 years younger. Boucher and Young are mostly salary filler to make the money work.

Toronto gets Lillard.

Phoenix gets Nurk and saves Phoenix $4.9M in salary.

I tossed in some picks. Every team that looks at a trade like this says their team should be the one getting more picks. I'm not too worried about that. Negotiate the picks with the other team as needed to get the deal done.

I like a trade like this better than anything Miami could offer.

Swap Thad/Precious then I like it.

I don't think Toronto would include Barnes...
Regardless of the Toronto assets, I think Indiana needs to be involved with a Nas/McConnel swap. Something like this:

Disagree with you here.

Trent <=> Herro - Both have their issues. I like the versatility of Trent a bit more than Herro, but I can see others differing.
Dick <=> Jaquez - These guys have similar value. I think Dick has a better chance to become an above average NBA player. (He also has a higher bust potential).
Achiuwa >> Jovic - Jovic is a mediocre prospect at best.

the question is, would trent be enough to pair with nurkic for phoenix?

Phoenix wants TJ McConnell from Pacers. Is there a way to route Trent to Indy? Indy needs to get off of Buddy Hield.

As you can clearly see, none of the offers for Dame are great (thanks, Dame) the reason it’s tricky is because some of the players coming to Portland will need to go elsewhere, so multiple teams are involved

Hard pass on Trent Jr.
Would have to go to a 3rd team.
oh, and nfw you deal with MIA.
Can't let Dame dictate the terms. NGDFW.

I am not sure anyone knows for sure since neither has played a game in the NBA. Both could be busts.

I have seen Jaquez for 4 years so I am familiar with him more. He is a solid 2-way player IMO and will fill the stats sheet but will not be great in any area.

Gradey Dick is not quite 20 and was the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2022. He has the "potential" to be a great shooter in the NBA. Can his D be average? I think it is possible.

I think gtj is going to be one of those guys who gets left without a musical chair in free agency and ends up taking a TPMLE type number. it's possible there's not a lot of interest in him.

my concern about jaquez is his lack of athleticism and lateral quickness. a player without an nba position. he might get targeted in the nba on defense.

gradey is ??? on defense at the nba level but his movement makes me a 'lot' less worried about this at the nba level.

Just another Luke Jackson type of player.

Based on combine testing, hes a little more 'athletic' than Dick is

Trent doesn't do anything well. His career PER is 13.7 when the NBA average is 15.0. His career TS% is 55% which is right at the NBA average. He doesn't get to the FT line; is a terribly weak rebounder, even for a guard; doesn't pass well; and is weak at dribble-drive. On the other end, at best, he's only a marginal defender

there's not much to like

Times like this make you realize why having an absentee owner is not a good thing for the NBA. And poor Cronin is thrown into this mess that is far above his depth. We are getting absolutely dragged in these negotiations because of what Goodwin and Dame have done.

If Goodwin isn't blackballed after all this, we are even bigger wusses than I thought.

His stats at UCLA. He can rebound but his 3-point shooting for the last 2 season stinks.
Why would he get any playing time over guys like Walker, Murray, Matisse, Sharpe etc.

Dame can simply return to the Trail Blazers, the Blazers make the playoffs and all is forgotten after awhile.

That's why we MUST send Dame to a Non-Miami location. That would likely result in Goodwin getting fired because it didn't work. It also would end the Lillard Method (TM) before it begins which would be a hugely good thing for the Blazers, and the rest of the league.

I sure hope we don't settle for the offer that sucks less

Do we know what the picks are? That could make a difference. If we were to get Ayton in a separate trade I kind of like a
a future 5/4 combo of Ayton and Achiuwa. Plus we still would have Grant and multiple options at the 3.

I really think that first trade deadline that Joe had where he dumped Norm for nothing has set a bad tone. GM's think they can just bully him.

And yet he made a good trade moving Hart, a good trade moving Payton, and hasn't given in to Riley and Miami's low ball offers for the past 3 months. Where's he getting bullied and dragged, exactly?

There have been other players also obtained for peanuts lately. John Collins.
Cronin wasn't bullied.
Where was the "bad tone" with the Grant trade?
