Trade Deadline: February 6, 2025

Lots of smaller moves being made. I think the writing is on the wall. Next year's starting 5:

Ant
Deni
Tou
Grant
DA

The lane I see is that scoot eventually becomes an All-Star point guard, 2-money is all NBA defense team consideration, and Avdija is a great glue guy.

what the Blazers really need now is an All-Star level if not All-Star two way player at shooting guard or small forward or power forward or center. Heck, it could be Ayton if he keeps eating his Wheaties.

I hope there's a lot more flexibility than that. To think a team with this much youth already has their mind set on a starting lineup 8 months from now should be incorrect.

I hope I am wrong.

If Scoot doesn't start next season, it's time to riot.

The starting lineup next year should be:

Scoot
Sharpe
Tou
Deni
Ayton

The clock is hitting zero this offseason. Simons and Grant need to 100% be gone this offseason. No more excuses.

I still think it could be Shaedon as well. Shaedon has all of the tools to be a two way all star and people might say that you're either born aggressive or not but I've seen way too many people who lacked focus in their first handful of years as an adult find that focus in their early to mid twenties to think Shaedon isn't capable of the same thing. If Shaedon is focused and aggressive all of the time on the court, he's the best player on this roster right now and even better in the future.

Well will probably move grant in the draft to get back in.

This isn’t to be combative, but I don’t think this was their vision

I think they wanted to build a long, athletic defensive team and to have more balance. Every move they've made suggests this. I look at the way they're playing, and have come together as a unit, and I see a long, athletic defensive team with incredible balance.

Would Jimmy Butler and let's just say Josh Richardson for KD make sense as far as value for both teams? It works for the CBA but are these two players Butler and Durant right around the same value?

I am so tired of KD and his whiney bitch ass but he can get away with it since he is a Top 5 to 10 player .
He’s not Top 5. SGA, Luka, Giannis, Jokic, Tatum all better. When healthy, Embiid and AD are better. Towns is better. So maybe top 10 for KD.

Whenever a fan base is feeling down, they should just say to themselves "hey, we could be Wizards fans" and that should cheer 'em up immediately. I mean, at least Dallas HAD Doncic for a few years. Legit question: what would be the Wizards' all-time starting five?
Earl Monroe, Gus Johnson, Wes Unseld, Rod Strickland, and Elvin Hayes.

Absolutely. Sharpe's the guy I think we all want to break through next.
But the Blazers need that guy. Him or someone else.

And now they need that long athletic guy in the backcourt with Scoot.

What's funny is many likely would take that deal for Grant, while also saying the deal for Norm was awful awful awful. When they'd be pretty similar deals.
Norm is earning $19 million and he's 31. Grant will be 34 when his deal ends earning $36.5 million.

Norm is the size of a guard but plays tough like a forward. Grant is the size of a big forward but plays like a tiny guard.

We're clearly trying to rebuild for the future today so Grant makes no sense here. There were a lot more possibilities with the roster we had in 2022, so we needed starting level Norm talent to play with Dame or to get a starter back in a trade.

Grant's defense has been pretty good lately.

even if the Suns dump everybody and tear it all down to the foundation and get terrible, they won't have their own high draft pick till 2030
Thats why they will need to trade with the Rockets that have their picks - just as the Nets had to get the Rockets involved in the Bridges trade.

It's getting more difficult with their 2031 pick going elsewhere though.

We're kind of the mirror image of the Orlando Magic - both franchises have the same "type" - lanky defense-first players, only they were looking amazing at the start of the season and shit now, and we're the reverse.

as for the Suns...remember that Finals team? well then they did this:

from that Finals team they gave up Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, Chris Paul, and Landrey Shamet

PLUS a 2024 lottery protected 1st they conveyed + 2024 swap that was not conveyed
PLUS 3 more unprotected 1st's in 25-27-29
PLUS 4 more unprotected swaps
PLUS 6 second round picks

all for 34 year old Durant and 30 year old injury magnet Beal with his no trade clause

it's hard to credit there wasn't somebody in their owner-management tree who said..."uhhh, maybe we should hit pause on these deals?"

even if the Suns dump everybody and tear it all down to the foundation and get terrible, they won't have their own high draft pick till 2030
They gave up Ayton too.

Seems like we've heard about Huerter to Portland a number of times.

I think it would have to be part of a Grant trade - otherwise playing time could be an issue.

Also will be more difficult with Huerter trade restriction not allowing his salary to be aggregated on Chicago end.

If not Sharpe then we don't have that guy on our roster.

And we don't have much to offer in trade to get a guy like that.

Huerter salary works in a trade for Timelord straight up. Now obviously Timelord would go to a 3rd team but those two players salaries do work.

Still think we'd need to have a Grant deal or maybe a Simons deal to have the PT for Huerter.

They had substantial injuries to their three best players though.

Maybe the Pistons want more of a push in the standings? They are .500 but somehow thats the 6th seed in the east.

Hear me out. In a couple years, I think Toumani could be that guy. Following the Jimmy Butler trajectory from early in his career.

Huerter makes over 4 million more than RW3, which would put us in the tax.
Also, I think the only reason we heard Huerter here was on the potential of Grant to Sac, and he was needed for salary matching. don't think there's any actual interest in Huerter the player
