Well aware of his track record, you are missing my point. He's the same Cashman he's always been. Smart but not sharo and never ever Shrewd. He was never as bad when he got flamed and he doesn't rate a love fest now.
He will always be mediocre, but the size of his wallet and check book give him opportunity to shine. These also provide opportunity for extreme folly. I mean lest we forget those that should not be named....ahole, brown, etc etc. Same Cashman.
Why he seems better is that the young talent and their performance have limited things Cashman can do if he wants to keep working in baseball. It's hard to congratulate a man for breathing because he wants to live, lol!
What I'm impressed by is the fact that Jeter did the sound business move where one could expect the temptation to serve some cold revenge. However he's always been a class act and we can expect that to continue in Miami. Dumbfounded that Miami trolls think this was a 2003 revenge move.
