OT Trump Asks USPS To Quadruple Shipping Prices

And?...I use Fedex, UPS, and USPS...they all have pros and cons.
I wish the UPS driver would knock on my door when he delivers a temperature package of insulin to my front door. Sometimes it sits there all day before we accidentally see it. We've called the UPS office and told them multiple times but still no result.

Get a dog so when the UPS guys drops your packages off they bark like hell and you know why! jk
Actually we have two devil dogs and I can be in the back yard and know when something or someone is at my door.

The post office does tracking nowadays.

barfo

Have you tried using it? It sucks balls and not even Sly's balls.

The post office has been in trouble for 20 plus years. My father was a Union rep for the city of Portland PO from Lentz station. Employees treated like they were in boot camp. PO not wanting to pay retirees their promised benefits, etc.
The post office is a huge wreck, but its because of lack of funding. It cant sustain itself and needs to rely on Fed aid to keep up and running. that fed aid will always be as little as possible just to maintain open doors, which means they will always be th shipping entity with the least amount to offer....unless they raise their shipping prices to what the actual going rate is.

We used to have a real good UPS driver who would deliver packages at 10:00 at night if that's what it took to finish his route... but they changed his route and now we have this guy who is always talking on the phone while driving and delivering...we live on a dirt road and when it rains hard he arbitrarily decides not to deliver even though the road is just fine...I too have complained multiple times to UPS over the last few months but nothing has been done.

This is actually extremely over due. Finally a President addressing the issue instead of just compensating.

That's great! Back in my day they didn't.
Yeah, they've been doing it for a few years now. I know because I've tracked some shipments for a few years now.

I've used their tracking for a few years now and have had no problems although using it at least once a month, average.
I've explained some of the reasons it can't sustain itself and Hoopguru has explained perhaps the biggest reason. None of these explanations involve any fault of the Post Office.

Raising USPS rates a bit is fine, but to "quadruple" them as dipshit suggests is just silly.

Our Postal system was not created in order to be a money maker...it's a service.

And?...I use Fedex, UPS, and USPS...they all have pros and cons.

I find USPS the shittiest of them all. 50 cents a letter seems too low. Make it a buck, still a deal.

Would cut down on junk mail, useless shit, etc.

Force people to adapt to electronic payments or to use email instead to save costs as well.

FedEx just merged with UPS. Now being called FedUP.

Last week Trump removed a life long postal worker as post master general and named Louis Dejoy, a major republican party donor with no experience in the postal service as the new post master general.

Trump disgusts me

You don't think a CEO of a global shipping and logistics company is qualified to run the USPS and replace a post master who is retiring?

LO. Its ALL the fault of the post office. Lack of planning.

I simply said they don't provide enough revenue to be self sustaining. This is a fact. I have boxes of these documents in our barn regarding all sorts of issues with the post office.

This is a conversation id gladly have, as I have a LONG first hand knowledge directly from a Union rep on this.

The post office is failing because it doesn't have the revenue to pay for all the retirees. That's the long and short of it. The shitty part is for 10 years my father had to fight for those retirement benefits, that the post office wants to deny to their long time dedicated retirees.

Yes, its run like a boot camp. Yes those who sacrificed as tossed to the wolves after retiring. Yes the Post office does not have the revenue to balance its budget.

Not sure what the debate is?

also, quadrupling the cost of shipping will likely maybe put them in the green or ride an even line. Not make them a money monger....

Simple letters with stamps and bulk mail isn't a real problem...again, the USPS was never intended to make a profit.

It is a service, period, like most government agencies...and the USPS should not be expected to support itself any more than the military.

Nah, the government shouldnt be expected to maintain an optimal efficiency by utilizing the latest technology. Lets let them run the office in an archaic fashion and then just suppliment the inefficient costs because... they werent meant to turn a profit..

What kind of logic is that?

LOL.

IMO, if a Fed agency wants to operate at cost neutral that's what they should do, but they need to at least cover cost, that would include retirement pensions.

$13.20 x 4 = $52.80, which is right in line with what UPS charges a business with a discount, so it will be much more for a person off the street. So evne at 4 times the rate... QUADRUPLE.... its still a better deal than UPS.

Everyone has the right to use whatever math logic they want no matter how flawed it is though....

To each their own.

I never once said they should maintain a profit. I have said they are losing money because of "X" factors that are directly related to one of two things. Costs of services being well below market value and poor leadership regarding the long term budget to include retirement benefits.

Both are directly a result of the Post office, contrary to what someone else said.

So how are we going to ensure the military covers their own costs? Bake sales, perhaps?

I know--they could sell surplus weapons to Iran. The US has some experience with that.

Invade Canada, sell it to China.
