Because "no comment" or keeping mum only adds fuel to the fire. His fellow Kentuckians (along with other right wing voters) have made it pretty damn clear they are more supportive of Trump than they are of him. It's in his best interests to appear to be in lockstep with Trump. He has every reason to lie, if indeed his relationship with Trump is in a shitty place. Just because it came out of his mouth doesn't necessarily make it so. I like the NYT source because it fits MY narrative. See what I did there?

If he's angry, he's angry. He gets to play the high road by saying no comment.

Sure, you can have any narrative you want. But it's only going to convince people willing to be deluded by nothing reflecting the Truth.

Like the Taliban....congress is just waiting for Trump to give up and go away.

Denny knows that McConnell will present a unified public stance until he chooses to break publicly from Trump, regardless of his personal feelings. He's just arguing to argue.

Now you're making shit up.

Now you're making shit up.

You got the lingo wrong. You're supposed to say, "Now YOU are fake news."

First Sly gets millennial terminology wrong, now you get Trump terminology wrong. You guys are turning me into a full-time coach.

Denny's continuous pro Trump posts reminds me of someone who works for the Cheetos administration.

Mitch McConnell disputes Trump feud claim: 'We are working together'

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday disputed a report that he's no longer talking to President Trump, saying sources for that story are out of the loop.

"The President and I, and our teams, have been and continue to be in regular contact about our shared goals," McConnell said in a statement. "We are working together to develop tax reform and infrastructure legislation so we can grow the economy and create jobs; to prevent a government default; to fund the government so we can advance our priorities in the short and long terms; to pass the defense authorization and defense appropriations bills so we can support our troops and help implement an effective strategy against ISIL; to provide relief from Obamacare; and to continue our progress for our nation's veterans."

...

McConnell, R-Ky., did not address the claim about the call in his statement.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we are committed to advancing our shared agenda together and anyone who suggests otherwise is clearly not part of the conversation," McConnell said.

What a relief! I sure feel better now. Thank you! I'm already looking forward to a better nights sleep......

Good for you.

I don't see why he'd go to the extreme he did in refuting the Times.

I don't see why he'd go to the extreme he did in refuting the Times.
Because he's a politician?? Because, as we have been told ad nauseum that he is a "master strategist"? Because all he really cares about is "winning"? Because by all indications the Times is not a McConnell fan and vice versa? I'm sure McConnell has all kinds of reasons to be other than truthful. Good for you for buying into it.

Yeah, I don't either. The 20-25% of the voting population, or 40-50% of the Republican base, that is in "Trump or burn it all down" mode surely couldn't be a consideration. I'm sure McConnell doesn't care about those votes at all for the mid-term elections.

Because if he's lying, his already dismal ratings would go up?

I have a hard time figuring out how this line of thinking works.

It gives his constituents the impression he's working with Trump, an impression he supposedly dearly needs right now. If he fights with Trump, his already dismal ratings" would become even more dismal. Remember, we have been sold McConnell as a master political strategist, so everything related to the individual is open to question and second guessing. In the end, he has his own agenda, one that does not necessarily dovetail with that of Trump. And I don't think that can truly be argued. Presidents come and go, senators can hold office forever if they navigate accordingly........

Trump is unpopular. Your narrative doesn't fit.

Trump is unpopular. Your narrative doesn't fit.

Trump is still popular among the Republican base. Midterms are base elections. McConnell is obviously not going to publicly break from Trump and poison Trump's voters against Senate Republicans.

His numbers are headed south. Siding with him is only certain to get a stream of negative reporting against you.

I don't see the logic in your narrative.

Wow, you just love to contradict yourself. You're the one who's always saying how popular Trump is. Go figure. And as you orgasmically enjoy pointing out, Trump is the president, like it or don't. And as I have already clearly indicated, Trump is more popular in McConnell's home state than McConnell is. I'm sorry you struggle with truths that don't support your own narratives.......

I've only said he won the election. He is the president, like it or not.

That is true.

I'm sorry you struggle with that.

Donald Trump is the most popular president, EVER!

Another squirrel from the Denny Crane "I Have A Million Of 'Em" Squirrel Ranch. We were talking about whether McConnell was lying, remember??? Maybe you should slow down and actually read the posts of others before getting into a headlong rush to be "right".....

There's no reason at all to think he's lying. Not only is he not lying, he went out of his way to debunk the NYTimes story. To help an unpopular president, with no real obvious benefit to himself.

You don't see or you don't want to see?

But yeah, McConnell's not going to turn Trump's base against Republicans running in 2018. You know that. Keep arguing, though, it's amusing.

I see in black and white what McConnell said and did.

He could have given a non-denial denial. Something like "where did they come up with this?" Or, "how silly Minstrel is."
