USA vs France, Sunday Aug. 15

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I've seen him do this for the Blazers.

Just admit it wasn't the big of a difference.

So "He's just shooting all jumpers except one dunk. Same things he does for the Blazers"... AND he's "He's been handed the ball and been at the top of the key to initiate an offensive set. He's been moving off the ball around teammates picks. Been getting touches lower in the blocks."

Just admit you're talking out our arse.

It was rare for him to initiate any offensive sets and his low block touches were when he was cutting to the hoop not setting up to post up. Just like in Portland he was moving off the ball around teammate's picks and was usually found in the corner. He shot a lot of jumpers and did very little off the dribble.

solid game for NB for an overmatched French team, but just a big fail on game analysis on your part

It's not a game analysis. It was pointing out he does more than stand in the corner and shoot jumpers (except for one dunk). Big fail on reading comprehension.

On top of this, you're not even accurate yourself. Batum did work the low block out of a triangle set in the first half and shot a 12 footer over his defender for a score. And again this is with no PG's of merit on a France team that had very little offense flow. So, as you'd say...big fail on game analysis.

Right, Nic never hit a 12 footer jumper as a Blazer... good point :rolleyes2:

Your claim that he was used differently today then in Portland is just empty. Be honest and admit it or make excuses about PGs/offensive flow & stay on the attack and be an ass. Makes no difference to me.

LOL... way to run from all the facts but the ones you want to see. Kind of like your game analysis. Why not roll your eyes to the fact he "never" worked the low block out of an offensive set? Cuz you're not too sure that ever happened?

Joke STOMP. Thanks for coming in late and playin'.

One time today he took an inbound pass, spun around a defender and brought the ball up the court, but bringing the ball up wasn't his role for the game. A single play isn't what is being debated. Thats you avoiding the big picture which doesn't come close to supporting the BS you've been pushing. Nic drove and dunked on Pau Gasol a couple times in NBA games, that doesn't make him a premiere finisher who does that as his role in Portland like LeBron. Hell I've seen Joel take his man off the dribble with a cross over and drop a flashy pass to a cutter once. Those were exceptions, not the rule.

Today Nic's role was to spread the court (usually from the corners) moving the ball when he was covered and shooting when he was open. He cut off screens and did very little off the dribble to create for himself or others. He covered a variety of guards and wings and had more TO's then usual... but pretty much had the same role he's played in Portland.

you hate Nate so much that logic goes out the window and you get pissy when no one agrees with you... your point has been made.

Watch out now! DE informed us over on OLive that he has attended coaching workshops!

Take your meds Spam and Stomp. If you guys don't think France utilizes Batum any differently than Nate does (the point of the thread) you're free to your opinion. Judging by your observation skills, I think you 100% believe it. Carry on.

I know it's just an exhibition, but I wasn't too thrilled with Nic's play today. I don't know if he was still not feeling 100% after being sick...who knows.

He shot it well when open which is nothing new, but struggled when creating offense for himself.

Ball Handling looked a little better, but still doesn't have the left hand or ball security while in traffic or pressured to be a good option in isolation or as a playmaker in pnr situations.

Made quick decisions with the ball which I've always liked about his game, but forced some passes.

Would've liked to see him be more aggressive and physical off the ball when matched up against a smaller defender which was often in this game. The one time he got semi deep inside position, he scored over curry.

His defense wasn't good at all and I've always thought it was a bit overrated to be honest. His individual D has always been solid, (featuring not great foot speed or strength, but good disciplined footwork and great length) but his team D is not anything above even average. His defensive instincts aren't that great and he just seems to be a step slow or lost in most defensive situations when the ball isn't in his immediate area.

Still like him a lot, but you can tell he's 21 and raw in many areas. Excited to watch him improve if given big minutes over the next couple years.

Wow. A pot shot by Spamking. Who could have thunk it. Whom did I "inform" of anything Spam. You must feel attending "coaching workshops" is a big deal for it to sit in such a small skull.

Perfect summary of what I saw, too. Nice post.

I especially like your point about his willingness to make quick decisions. The guy never over-dribbles. He almost always seems to know what he wants to do before the ball even gets to him, which is exactly the mindset you want in a guy with ball-dominant players like Roy and Miller (and hopefully eventually Oden).

Overall, though, I was disappointed in his play.

Although when you come to think of it, the very thing I really like about him (his willingness to quickly swing the ball) is exactly the kind of thing that can make his offense look bad in a game like this one. Much like his one summer league.

You just don't get much in the way of style points if you quickly swing the ball to a teammate and that guy turns it over or passes it to somebody else who misses a shot.

Gotta realize they were playing a non-counting exhibition in MSG against Team USA w/o Parker, Noah, Turiaf etc etc. He had four steals in that first quarter and after that, it's tough to maintain that level of intensity when USA puts in a second wave of players against your depleted roster's bench.

France was there to show up and leave. It's hard to open your game up when there is such a talent disparity from your teammates to your opponents.

Some good points. Batum shouldn't ever have to be a guy that needs to handle the ball and breakdown his man a la Roy. I honestly think with his length and quickness he could go from the wing to the rim in one dribble. If he were get the ball swung to him weakside and attack the crease for instance. I also think he does fairly well as a defender even off the ball, especially recovering on fast breaks. Very Kersey-esque.

He definitely becomes a better player when his teammates around him are better. Which is the case for most players, but with Nico it's even more so.

I get the same feeling when I watch Babbitt and it's the main reason I see him getting the most burn out of the rookies this season although it still won't be much more than mop up minutes.

Remember when you were trying to get everybody to believe that aliens built the Sun Gate at Tiwanaku, Bolivia? One of your sparkling comebacks was a statement outta left field about all your playing and coaching experience...

Sly was in on that thread as well...

Almost, almost, like he is a role player. We all know better though

No, I don't remember saying the crap you're spewing. I can see you take bits and pieces of all kinds of things and either can't comprehend them or blow them up willy nilly to look idiotic. Like trying to make a pig muddy you kind of get quite a bit on yourself. You butt still stinging from some OLive whooping previous or something? Cuz I can't remember but you're obviously carrying some mental burden. Your cross brother. (Dragon?)

I agree his chasedown blocks are great, but he gets lost in "no man's land" in transition often.

For example, late in the clock say Andre is involved in a pnr at the top of the key and drives to the hole w/ Nic spaced and stationed in the right corner. Nic should work his towards the top of the key to fill Andre's area soon after the screen is set and assume the responsibility of the first man back in transition. Too often last season I saw Nic float to the elbow and watch. The rebound would carom off the rim and he would then get back. This is "no man's land" transition D. You either crash the o-boards or run your ass back.

Bayless has this same problem.

LOL, I found it in google cache...

The "coaching" part began with "I've went to coaching" [sic]

Still gonna deny it?

Oh yes. Where in that thread did I say aliens built "Tiwanaku"? And I believe you were claiming you knew more about that place cuz you "visited Peru with an archeology friend" thus making you the forum expert on that subject, which i then replied "Oh good, since I've attended coaching clinics, you know to lay down about all my basketball opinions".

You're not doing a good job following your own instruction and lessons. And you're still wrong on comprehension, memory...etc etc.

I am afraid I'm going to have to deny you your fantasy.

You're lucky the thread comment links are dead. While you can still lie about it, it's not very convincing anymore is it?

Luck is not needed when speaking the truth. You've claimed I've said things I've never said. Doesn't matter how deep into Google cache you go, you're not going to find what you're dreaming up. Call google or OLive up, see if they can do you some favors. I'll wait.
