Trade Varejo to Portland!

I believe Cleveland already owned that blazers second round pick and it is just a coincidence that it is being moved in this deal.
That had better be the case, because we shouldn't be giving up ANY asset in this trade. It's already a pretty weak haul for taking that stain off of CLE's books/court, but if we're sending something out - even a measly 2nd round pick - that's an even worse trade and it'll go down as another mark in the "Cons" column for Neil's work with the Blazers.

The only thing that could possibly make this a good trade is if LBJ decides to leave CLE before 2018 (if the reports are true that that's the first year we have rights to the pick).

Flip the 1st to Brooklyn for Thad or Brolo

I assume you waive Frazier because he is never going to be a case where you need continuous Bird rights, or something like that. Montero or Alexander could be?

I'm sure the cut is only temporary.

Just like Steve Blake is the most-traded Blazer, Frazier will go down in history as the most-cut Blazer... as soon as he passes Chris "Baby LaMarcus" Johnson.

I odn't think bobby's right...it can be the 2016-17 9.8M over 3 years, or the 19M over 5.

And I think you have to make that decision now.

Team option years can't be counted in the stretch, but non-guaranteed years can. If he has two years after this year, but the second year is non-guaranteed, then yes, we can stretch the 1 guaranteed year over 5 years.

All seasons remaining on a contract are considered "remaining seasons" for the purpose of the stretch provision except seasons following a team option. For example, the Clippers waived and stretched Miroslav Raduljica in 2014 with two seasons remaining on his contract, one fully guaranteed and the other non-guaranteed. Both seasons counted in his stretch calculation, so his remaining guaranteed salary was stretched over five seasons.

It's weird, I thought that you had to have a player cleared (meaning it'd already been 48hrs) before you could fill that spot, and with the deadline approaching...I'll have to look this up

That space is and always will be held by Connaughton until he's gone.

An interesting triviality: Pat is the least efficient player on the team, but going by Value Above Replacement Player, he's not even bottom 4...

Nevermind, Coon CBA FAQ to the rescue.
Coon CBA said:
If the player clears waivers he becomes a free agent, and is free to sign with the team of his choice. The player's roster spot is freed-up as soon as the team places the player on waivers. It can sign a new player or acquire one via trade immediately, without waiting for the player to be claimed or to clear waivers.

Well, I suppose there is a silver lining...

I think you might be over reacting a little. It is not a good deal, but it is certainly not a bad deal. It's just a minor little deal. I can't see it effecting us one way or another except we get a late 1st round pick for losing a little bit of cap space.

That would be an open roster spot for guys that will be bought out after the deadline, that might not be the worst thing, assuming they do cut Sideshow Bob.

THis is the most bizarre decision making I've seen, I want both Varejao and Frazier is it too much to ask!?!!
