How about Beasley, gives us banger down low. I think he would get along with Dame and the guys and he's probably like Stotts too?

Not the worst idea. Better idea than Melo for sure. Wasn’t Portland interested in him this past summer? He can get buckets.

Teodosic is probably off to Europe. He’s got a couple offers, most likely for a lot more than he can make on a minimum contract in the nba.

Markieff will never happen. I could see him in Houston actually.

Bulls may keep Lopez. If not, he’s probably going to the Warriors.

The more I think about, the less Kanter becomes an option. His agent also reps Collins, so there might be a conflict of interest there. But maybe not since it’s only a short term deal. Still, I think Gortat is the most realistic.

If we had Morris, at least he'd be pulling other peoples pants down and not our players

People felt the same way about Bob Probert when he was with the Detroit Red Wings. Except it was "putting our players in the hospital" not pulling their pants down.

Yeah and his brother was interviewed saying he didn’t want him on another eastern conference team. Two issues though

1. Lakers are evidently interested. No way would he choose Portland over them.

2. Olsheys bullshit “culture.” No bad boys allowed.

Olshey culture? I would venture a guess that it's more Paul Allen culture as it was this way after the jail blazer era and before Olshey.

I just don't see how Gortat is an upgrade over Meyers or Zach. Kanter would be great for 23 minutes a game off the bench as the backup C, who could play more if Nurk gets into foul trouble.

Agree on Teodosic back to Europe, Lopez to Golden State, and Markieff to Houston.

Gortat sets elite screens, is good on the pick and roll, and is better defensively and on the boards than Meyers and also has more playoff experience. He’s a much better fit as Nurks backup because we can run a lot of the same stuff if he gets in foul trouble. I don’t trust either Meyers or Zach in a playoff series right now.

Meyers sets elite screens too. Gortat is definitely better defensively but Meyers is much better offensively. Collins is just as good as Gortat defensively and a little better offensively IMO.

Trust would be the reason to get him, but his lack of ability to space would hurt our bench IMO. If it was someone like Kanter, that'd be fine because Kanter is a great inside scorer and rebounder.

I see the reasoning, I just wouldn't do it.

Meyers sets elite screens too.

Zach averages more screen assists than Meyers, so I don’t know about that one. Gortat by comparison averages twice as much in about the same amount of minutes.

Just based off the eye-test, Meyers sets good screens. Zach sets a lot of moving ones so he might get more assists but he also (likely) causes more turnovers as well.

My point wasnt that Zach is good at them...

Gortat is the only guy in the top 15 in screen assists who averages less than 20 minutes. He averages more than Steven Adams in half the minutes! He’s a monster and Meyers isn’t in the same ballpark.

Some of that is scheme though. Our second unit doesn't run a lot of pick and roll when ET brings the ball up.

I agree that it's probably Gortat's best skill.

All Meyers does is chill on the perimeter setting screens. Don’t necessarily need to run pick and roll to pick up screen assists..

Henry Ellenson was released by the Pistons and i will make a bold prediction -- IF NeO cannot get a player he wants from the waiver pool he will sign him to a 10 day contract -- if for any other reason to take a look at him since my bet is this will be Myers last year in Portland and to look for a possible replacement for Myers.

Yiiikes mane I hope not. He even struggled in the g league. If there’s a replacement for Meyers it’s Skal since Olshey considers him a 5.

For a big rental going into the playoffs I want the guy who will teach Skal and Zach something like Kaman did with Meyers...Rolo wasn't that guy but Rolo know's the system and several of the core players already..Kanter is a guy we could really use....him, Rolo or Gortat would be great backup for the playoffs.

Olshey will go after Kanter

Similar to what we've all talked about....and it is Bleacher Report, but it has pictures. :matrix:

  1. In limited duty, Gortat can continue adding value as a throwback bruiser. His screening is elite. He's averaging 8.1 screen assists per 36 minutes, which is tops among this year's rotation players. He's also stingy around the rim, holding opponents 3.2 points below their normal shooting rates within six feet. And he makes smart decisions, posting a career-best 3.1 assists per 36 minutes.

Give me.

I know we're in the tax, but it's kind of frustrating we didn't use our open roster spot to recoup a 2nd round pick from the Hood trade. The Raptors gave the Nets a 2021 2nd rounder to take Greg Monroe off their hands. I'm not saying I'd choose Monroe over some of those other buyout guys (that we probably wouldn't get anyway), however there seemed to be some value in 2nd round picks this year and it would be nice to not be completely depleted of them in the future. Besides we could've just waived Monroe like the Nets did if there was someone else better to get.
