Way too early trade suggestions

It certainly implies it.
How does a post that specifically says Dame is "not a very good defender" imply that he's a plus defender? Quite obviously, he's saying that Dame would be an MVP-type if he were a plus defender, but that he's actually neither.

Hey guys, I know just the guy to get!
Older vet and great leader.
Elite shooting.
Not a very good defender, but elite shooters that are plus defenders are mvp type.
Super clutch.
Knows the terrain and has history with Portland.

Anyone heard of the player Damian Lillard?
He is pretty good and does what most in here are saying we need, it seems.

How many of our young guys would we need to give up to get him on the court and in a Blazers uniform by the start of next season?

If we can get off either Grant or Jrue contract I'd trade them ASAP.
I don't see the urgency any more

forget about cap-space, Portland won't have any thru the expiration of the Jrue/Grant contracts

so the concern would be the tax line vs guarantees thru 2027-28; after which, the Jrue/Grant contracts expire

this season: tax line-->189M....tax space = 1.5M
2026-27: tax line-->202M....tax space = 36M (10 players-->(Thybulle/Timelord UFA. Rupert/Reath RFA)
2027-28: tax line-->212M....tax space = 57M (8 players-->(Scoot/Murray RFA)

it might get a little tight next season, especially if they re-sign Thybulle for 15M or so. But even if they did that still leaves 20M for a draft pick and to fillout the back end of the roster

I do not see any compelling reason to trade either Grant or Jrue. The only reason would be if there was a good offer

Even if that's all true I can think of a number of big advantages:

#1 would allow us to trade for a player without the partner wanting additional compensation. Say hypothetically in a Giannis trade to PDX, they'd take an expiring but with Grants overpaid deal would need a FRP attached

#2 Allows the Blazers flexibility to trade for someone that better accepts a bench or different role in the future.

#3 Avoids the risk of Grant/Jrue contracts becoming huge negative assets as they age and production decline

#4 salary luxury tax room give the Blazers options to add other players/assets in trades or signings. This doesn't mean only cap space and yes sometimes fans greatly overvalue how much this flexibility is worth. But it's still a benefit.

Now so far in 4 games yes Jrue and Grant have both played great. I'm concerned as hell that they are ticking time bombs though. If we can get salary relief or other benefits and get out of that risk - I'm all for it. With these guys being so far from their prime once our youth peaks and Dame replacing their leadership we don't really need them long term.

53, 57, 61, and 65 is a lot of salary. He turned 29 yesterday.
Grant's salary would be needed for sure. Probably Shae as they play the same position and an ending contract (Williams) plus a 1st.

What he offers on the court is needed. The dude can shoot. His salary is the drawback. Not sure I would pull the trigger because of it.
I would want to see how Shae comes along by the trade deadline.

Jabari Smith for Jrue

Not saying I’d go for it but if I had to bet — this framework happens before the deadline

Houston would need to add VanVleet to make the salaries work. Would we be trading Grant in a different trade?
Smith, Grant, Deni, and Tou seem like a lot at forward.

Didn't we learn anything from Milwaukie's "all or nothing" fubar??? Screw "all" in for a shot at (most likely) a single chip. We have some good young pieces, many of whom are on the same time line (and who really seem to enjoy playing together). Joe should trade for complimentary pieces to the core we already have, and we have an excellent chance of making serious noise for a string of years, instead of gambling on broken down pieces that will just set us back to where we came from. Jeezus, I'm a 71 year old man. If I can afford to be patient while they build the "right" way, then so can all you "kids"........
Yes.

If the Blazers are trading all their young assets they'll end up with a starting lineup worse that Milwaukee's that had Giannis and Dame. They'll wreck themselves and be back near the bottom for years again.

It's very hard to make one of these "all-in" trades unless you're in a market where you're going to attract role players to fill out the rotation who are willing to play at a discount for a ring. I think the Portland community has the ability to make that feasible, but it's just my theory, because we haven't had a GM that's shown the ability to market the community or the organization in such a way as to make it a reality. Although, to be fair, Cronin hasn't had the chance because the Blazers aren't good enough yet. Olshey did have the chance, but I think he was a big-city guy who never appreciated the things in Portland that might appeal to players, and it's hard to sell something you wouldn't buy yourself; Olshey never saw the charm because he'd already been seduced by the glitz of places like LA to the elimination of everything else.

Do you guys think Devin Booker and Donovan Mitchell are comparable?
I ask because Mitchell was a big help taking the Cavs team to the next level. Could Booker do the same for us?
Not comparable.
Mitchell is a far better player. Living in Phoenix, I watch Book frequently.
Good player, but not one to lead you to the next level

if Booker was 24 with lots of upside still, and 10-15M/year less in salary, he'd be an ideal target if the Blazers were willing to pay that kind of price. And the price would be high for a 24 year old two-time all-star wing.

but he's 5 years past 24 at 29, and some of that earlier upside hasn't materialized; and he's got a 5 year contract paying an average of 61M/year. Yikes! That's not to say he isn't a really good player, he is. In the 5 games of this season he's averaged 29-4-6. But his team is 1-4. He can alter the trajectory of a franchise a bit, but he's not talented enough to lift a .500 team to contention, especially not after adding him costs that .500 team quite a bit of talent while exposing the new team to apron hell

Since Washington gifted us Deni, would they also be willing to give us Kyshawn George? He really is a Swiss Army Knife (pun intended)
He's already been traded for Dillon Jones once...

I'm going to expand this to include other teams.

Atlanta is underperforming, and Ja Morant is bitching already in Memphis (and Cedric Coward is their future), so how about they exchange headaches? Because I can't see any other teams really being interested in those two:

Why is trae a headache, he doesn't miss games like ja and he is not an off court distraction. He is not a perfect player by any stretch, but I would rather have trae and hope the team starts clicking than bring ja and wonder if he is injured or dnp-stupid
