Fischer is saying the Blazers could be sneaky buyers.
Put a bookmark in this, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Blazers move on from Scoot at the deadline or in the off-season. Reasoning being:
1. For better or worse, the Blazers have 50M+ tied to the PG position next year. And as old as Dame is, I don't see him coming off the bench.
2. Caleb and Deni's play has shown that the Blazers can probably withstand some injuries at PG. Deni in particular has been, for all intents and purposes, the PG this year, and has thrived in that role. Even on a fully healthy roster, I think we'd want the ball to be in Deni's hands a significant amount of time. That means less time to develop someone like Scoot.
3. The Blazers probably need another ball handler, but Scoot's got the unfortunate position of being a high draft pick that needs on ball reps. Ideally, we have a guy that doesn't require development time. His contract situation also works against him, since he's got one year left after this, and still hasn't shown enough to warrant an extension.
Again, it depends on who is available, but if we "buy" on the market, I wouldn't be surprised if Scoot is part of the compensation.
