I'm confused... is Jimmy Butler the star and Bam one of the scrubs or vica versa? I wish Portland had a scrub near the level of whichever guy you're refering to.

STOMP
I should have said 2 stars

Celtics looking shaky...may get swept

how many are OK with #3 + Ant for Brown? Will it take more or are the Celtics headed for a cliff?

and how much more would be OK?
I think this is a win win for both teams and a good situation for Ant as well as Brown

I am not sure there is even one Batman in this draft. I would argue that even Victor, as good as he could be, is not the type of guy who can take over a game. Regardless of Victor, who else is a clear choice to be the #1 guy on a team?
Scoot

The #3 pick for a 26 year old 2nd Team All-NBA player would be buying low.

Typically those guys are nearly unobtainable.
Brown has one year left on his contract. Then’s he’s unrestricted.

Brown is close to Dame. If your Cronin you only do the trade if Dame says Brown will resign.

Of course we'd prefer Brown was signed for longer. But the only reason he'd be attainable is because he's not, so you have to live with a bit of that risk.

Correct. Kinda like Jerami Grant when we trade for him last year. I would assume no trade would take place without a handshake agreement by both parties.

The obtainable, young, All-NBA player, on a long cheap contract, with no injury history, can't be the standard.

If were mortgaging the team’s future anyway might as well do it for a rental that won’t be stuck on our team after Dame demands a trade anyway
Wtf no lol. You do all of that and have nothing left to show for it after let say brown and dame leave. That’s horrible management

I can't see how this is relevant in determining his potential. It reminds me of how people were using useless 3 pt stats early in CJ's 2nd season.
Scoot only took 51 3s last season. 5 more makes and he is at 35%. He is 19 years old and only played in 19 games. The sample size is way too small for any analytics to be relevant in discussing where he will be in a year, let alone 3-4 years from now.
You cant see how its relevant someones shooting percentages are?

so if Wemby shot 20% youd say, “oh well”?

shooting percentages are pretty much the only reason Amen Thompson isnt the clear #2, because the guy cant make a 3 or shoot a FT.

furthmore, how many players could be “3 and D” but cant make a shot to save their life?

if you really dont see how someone being a piss poor shooter can change potential (aka draft stock) this conversation wont go anywhere, “3 level scorer” is a criteria for a reason.

Then your not getting him, unless you give up Sharpe.

I'd prefer to keep Sharpe over #3.

Bingo. This summer will likely require some real difficult choices, that we may regret.

Just like Brown may not be as good as who is taken at #3. #3 may end up to be way worse than Brown and be a total miss opportunity if Cronin doesn't take it. I can't imagine a trade happening that everyone here will call a home-run.

I feel fairly certain saying that if we have #3 and Ant for JB and dont accept it, dame is gonna want out

Which tells you everything you need to know. Dame and Brown are not better than Brown and Tatum. Dame and Brown do not make the Blazers a contender. Making decisions to keep Dame happy vs decisions to put together the best team is absolutely crazy.

I assume If they leave it will likely be in trade and you’ll get a nice return for both players.
That’s not what the original post said. It said it better to trade for a rental so you don’t have to deal with that contract if Dame leave

Dame would leave in a trade, obviously. Brown, being unrestricted, would not unless it was with Dame on a resigning promise. I’m just saying that not having a player who obviously failed to give us anything (in Brown) would be a blessing rather than hanging around like Raef LaFrentz’s contract long after his welcome is worn out.

I’d rather have a bunch of future picks and salary flexibility when Dame is gone.

Tatum hasn't shown he has that extra level. He's a quality Robin. You always seem to like to berate Dame. If Joe can add a couple nice players to this team, Dame will lead the team to get it done.

Trading our #3 pick plus a starter for a player who ends up leaving us high and dry after one season would be one of the biggest kicks in the balls I've experienced as a Blazers fan.

Not for only 19 games. If that is all our GM were to base his decision on then I would want him fired. Now if he had a horrible-looking shot that looked unfixable then that is a different story. But his mechanics are fine. Your main point was his 3-point shooting. Countless players have needed a year to adjust to the NBA distance. You really don't think a 19-year-old kid can improve his shooting?

Devil's advocate:

How much better is Dame/JB than Dame/CJ or Dame/Ant?
