So you acknowledge offensively they work fine, and that Siakam is a much better rebounder, yet they are a "horrible" duo?
I still don't agree with this at all. Who would work better and still give us what Siakam brings offensively? I am guessing that most other
options will also have a weakness somewhere in their game. Siakam is a solid 230 lbs. Grant is a solid 210. I don't see a whole lot of similarities in their game.

They're nothing alike. Siakam can also playmake off the dribble. Grant can't.

I think we're not totally aligned on discussing the same scenarios - I'm just saying Blazers might have two plans;

Plan 1 - trade picks for vets now to win with Dame
Plan 2 - trade Dame for picks to rebuild

Some teams might be a partner for only plan 1, or only plan 2. Other teams might be a potential partner for both - either plan 1 or 2 (Toronto/Boston/Brooklyn). If they think there is a chance at plan 2 happening, they may be less receptive to being a party on plan 1 getting executed than if there was no possibility of plan 2. So no, I don't think those teams would depress the value of Dame being traded if eventually thats what happens. But yes - they could prevent the win now with Dame plan 1 from being executed since they smell blood in the water with Dame being available and hold out for the chance at plan 2.

Grant is not a reason to upgrade the roster talent.

Besides Grant/Siakam can play together at either the SF/PF or PF/C. My preference would be Grant at SF because he's a terrible rebounder.

Well considering Grant is likely signing for some insane $150 million type of contract that basically locks in a Dame/Siakam/Grant trio yes his fit needs to be a major concern of that roster trying to win immediately.

It has a lot of positives and yes I'd like to see it. But he is nearly 30 and going to be paid over $200 million and its unlikely to make the Blazers a contender now with Dame 33. Find a way to add Siakam for #23 plus two future firsts and I'm on board to try that experiment.

Yeah Siakam is a nice player like Grant - and yes I'd rate him much above Grant - but he's just not a superstar or close to it. That Raptor title team where he was #2 had a ton of guys such as Lowry/FVV/Siakam/Gasol/etc that played awesome, so it wasn't like it was just Siakam and Kawhi as the two big stars carrying that team on their backs. I just don't see a duo of Siakam and Dame being close to the duos of Denver/LAL/LAC/GS/Phx/ etc in the playoffs.

Just seems like a totally Neil Olshey plan of trading away our draft picks to "contend now" that actually has zero realistic chance to contend now.

At least with Brown or Bridges they are young enough to either improve more or contribute to a second window built around Sharpe/others. Siakam will be way overpaid and a diminished player by that point.

Great why don't you show game two's box score? or game three? He was not ready to be a contributor right away. He had occasional good games but was not someone you could count on. When is the last time someone came in and contributed right away. The Blazers don't draft those sort of players, they go for players that need a year or two to be consistent contributors.

Who cares if picks contribute on game 1? Teams hold their rights for a decade.

Nurk/Little/couple second rounds for Draymond.

I think at that point we would need a backup point guard and hopefully another big man. Plumlee will be a UFA. Would be interesting to bring him back. It would also be interesting to go after someone like PatBev to be the backup point guard.

You seemed to have left out Zach, Nas, Caleb, Nolan, Elliot, Meyers and VIctor. The Blazers are batting less then 50% with their draft pics and techniallly the Blazers traded for LaMarcus, and Dame.

I feel like so many people on this forum don't realize how good Siakam is. The multiple comparisons to Grant as if they're equals.... Baffling. The guy averaged 24/8/6 last year and we are nitpicking about stuff? He'd be a definitive #2 that fits a positional need. And he plays defense.

The only worry for me is to ensure he has an extension in place.

And keeping Nurk while also having 13 and 23 gives you a chance to find a better fitting center as well. I think that deal is a solid triple for us if not a homerun.

Siakam is their dominant player. It sure as hell ain't Scottie Barnes (inconsistent), OG ( same, and pouty), Van Vleet (very good PG, holds & grabs too much on defense, and is a flopper).

Brooklyn also has their own picks in 2028, 2029, 2030. Yes they have plenty of unprotected picks to trade out - those Phoenix unprotected picks are great. What do they have - probably 6 years of them or something like that? Compared to a team like the Lakers or Clippers or Heat / etc that have just 1 or 2 years.

Yeah eating Simmons contract is fine - first the Blazers have to match salaries next season which is a wash. Then Simmons deal is an expiring contract. News flash - the Blazers are tanking the next two years if they trade Dame, they don't need production from that salary spot.

What is there; a 5-10% chance Simmons regains value as an expiring? Its not likely, but not impossible either. If so its a bonus. If not, well fine the point was getting the picks. Simmons is just salary filler, and would potentially get the Blazers even more picks to take that on which is great.

I wouldn't let Simmons within 10o feet of the Practice facility.

Sharpe was great as a rookie, once he started getting playing time. He was ready to contribute.

If we could get the next Sharpe at PF that would be pretty great.

Because the Blazers typically pick late. When they've picked early they've obviously had better luck. Dame, CJ, even Zach Collins was ready to contribute right away. He was just injured. Shit happens.

The bench worries me a lot. Doesn't seem to be much firepower. There would be some defensive stalwarts but zero scoring.

Very good. It was never 5 actual picks. It was 3 picks with conditions on 2 more. That said, GP2 out was addition by subtraction. He never wanted to be here and told a client of mine basically as much last summer. So we got something for nothing.

I wouldn't say it was nothing. We gave him the full MLE and handcuffed our books last yr preventing us from going after anyone else of significance because we were hard capped. That opportunity cost was real.

Just because we got out of a mistake shouldn't excuse the fact that it was made in the first place.

Even more alarming about what you say is that our FO not only didn't do its due diligence on the injury front, but also in his character/committment to the team.

This doesn't really inspire confidence in the team's ability to make smart moves this summer.

Your original post said there are players taken after 10 every year that contribute right away. I responded to that, he then brought up only lottery picks, which had nothing to do with your or mine original post. I was saying with those later picks the blazers go for players who have a higher ceiling but are not ready to contribute right away. The original posts had nothing to do with lottery picks, but now that is all people want to talk about, instead of going back and reading your post I responded to.

I think a Trae Young for Brown deal makes sense for both teams. And Brown is from the ATL area.
