I wouldn't say Christianity fits like a glove. But i can say being a christian fits me like a glove. But for those that aren't a regellious bunch may look at Christianity like a rule book they dont want to answer to. Instead of openly reading through the context of the bible, they would rather study all the "wrong" they supposedly found (I am just as guilty).

I dont blame them. Being a Christian is humbling. Who wants to be humble?! I mean even in this thread we've seen more arrogance from both sides regarding this topic (myself included). No one wants to really admit they are wrong, and no one really wants to admit they really dont know shit about the other side. They use study footnotes for main topics to debunk either side, instead of actually studying the other side and making up their own mind.

"And we even know his name, thanks to recovered fragments of ancient holy images (referred to as 'movies' by people at the time) captured by actual eyewitnesses! Behold, an excerpt from the first Book of Zemeckis. Glory to McFly!"

I would like to read a passage from the good book. And Tannen said "Whoa unto those who like the dung of cow. For I am not one. Wretched are they that drop it upon my persons."

True progress is admitting you are wrong. You can only control yourself. Sometimes people believe they can push through life ignoring the negatives and wrong they brought upon themselves. In the end; it's a damned way of progress.

Could you imagine how unsafe flying would be if the engineers just ignored what doesn't work on a airplane?

This is why I love Christianity for myself. I don't have to pay the price for my wrong. Christ did. Instead I humble myself and know that I can't do this myself. I finally realized (after salvation) that God actually loved me enough; even being as bad as I am; that he sent his only son to live on this planet, endure the sin we battle with and sacrifice himself for all sin.

This is why i love science too. Science holds no predjudice. If its wrong, then its just wrong. There really isnt a agenda from true science. It is just an observation tool. The observed help society understand how to move forward. It has no problem trashing hundreds of years of observations and theory the moment is has been proved wrong.

I truly believe there will be a day when science and christianity will work together, instead of butting heads.

See I don't agree with this. I think Christianity is completely narcissistic. How you can argue that this is the only place in the universe where intelligent life exists is beyond my comprehension. That doesn't seem very humble to me.

You had me until that last line. But I agree whole-hearted aside from that one

This is also the reason why i think many that put their trust in science have doubt on the bible. The bible is advertised as the true truth. It is supposedly has no wrong. It is the end all for all that we need to know and live.

If you try and look at it in the scientific eye, that doesnt feel rational. Anyone that believes in science, never agrees something is the end all. Maybe a hundred years from now, evolution of how we see it today was totally and completely wrong. The scientific community would have no problem changing their views, imo.

Now see there is different views on that point. Some actually believe that there are other worlds out there, even christians! Some think the bible is written for only this world.

But I thought we were discussing Biblical Christians? I'm not aware of any bible that allows for intelligent life on other worlds to exist.

Well not agreeing isnt really scientific is it? You gonna through everything from the bible out, just because you think its magic?

As someone a while ago in this thread said "the greeks believed he lighting was cast from their God zeus". Now we know its not magic. Maybe the things written in the bible may not be so magical a hundred years from now.

if this argument is to believed, then the very first bible was the word of god, as interpreted through humans, who have agendas, and bad memory, and embellish, and exaggerate, and i could almost think about believing that...but as it gets "re-interpreted" to "fit the times" etc, and so forth, it is just so perverted, that even if it was at some point "the word of god", how could someone actually say that at this point?

its just kinda silly to say the "true truth" is the bible, when it was written by man, and man, as we all know, is fucked

Depends on how you look at it. Depends on how the ancient writers tried explaining things with their limited vocabulary.

How would you explain a flying machine to someone 3,000 years ago?

Its also kinda silly to think he bible is wrong too. As i pointed out before. Man is not fucked. You just think its fucked because the punishment for not accepting. Its odd that we rule out laws of the bible, but accept all the laws that govern this country. How is this any different?

isnt god "intelligent life on other worlds?"

and you would explain a flying machine with science

its not different at all, most of us break laws all the time

the ones that make sense, most people adhere to

whos to say that the people who first published the bible didnt edit it first? didnt add their own flair? embellish stories with description?

Yeah? Then you would have been crucified for heresy. You just assume that you can explain how to operate and build an airplane to a 3 year old, then that person would completely understand?

Did you know that even 500 years ago, scientists where killed because they were accused of witchcraft.

The point of that quote was that the Greeks put a supernatural story behind a natural occurrence. Since then we have learned the true cause of it. If this was true for the bible, it would disprove any supernatural portion of it, which is the opposite of what I think you're trying to say.

im sorry i dont see your point, just saying you could teach them how planes fly...was everyone at a 3rd grade learning level back then? and these are the people who wrote the bible?

Actually that is exactly what im trying to say.

Actually they were worse than third grade level. Even through the dark ages, man needed others to read the story. Not until Gutenberg developed the printing press was when the common man could read. And even then it was a small %

that's an argument against christianity, not for it. the more we explain the seemingly miraculous using science the less need there is for god.

That is soooo far from the truth. This is why even today's scientist still have many theist in prominent positions in science. If you think that science has proven whats in the bible wrong, than why are their agnostics? Its because many that dont believe in God, will not rule out there maybe God.

Serious question.... If scientists are supposedly the most rational man, and science only disproves the existence of God, then why would any scientist, being rational and all, believe in God? You guys are claiming science has only disproved the bible, yet there are many scientists that are still christians.

Seems like a total contradiction no? I mean if it has been disproven without a shadow of doubt, then why does a rational man still believe?

Believing in god does not mean you believe in the bible. I wholeheartedly believe the bible is a book of mythology and historical fiction. On god, I'm agnostic.
