Depends on how you mean the question. I'll interpret it to mean that you didn't understand why I wrote those words.

It's a modification of a 'quote' from Friedrich Neitzche, with the phrase 'the abyss' replaced by 'Canada'.

Quote is in quotation marks because he wrote in German, not English.

Single quote marks rather than double because that's how I roll, usually.

The little ditty under your Avatar and handle is quite fitting.

You asked a question. You could start by listening.

Just because you don't agree with what he said doesn't mean it's not true. And you know what? It's 100% true that this country has systematically oppressed people of color.

Look up what happened to Black Wall street in Tulsa OK. Actually do it. I'll wait....

If everyone started first by listening and caring, things might just fall into place when it comes to cleansing our country of racism.

But instead you're too busy calling people whiners when they answer your OP.

Racism really, honestly, starts with white people becoming interpreters for their own.

Fix your system of oppression.

That's a pretty American view though....Somalia has one of the worst records of genocide on the planet and it's ongoing....tribal systems of one people benefiting over another....and this is between non white tribes...it's no trick, it's a human problem..and yes...white domination of indigenous peoples is as guilty as any but it's not exclusive to whites only. These issues need perspective. I've cited examples of oppression and dominations on a global scale throughout history and in my view...all humans have these atrocities in their history and some still do. Romans feeding slaves to the lions for entertainment was pretty fucking horrible

I think we're mostly referring to American racism.

I think we're mostly refereeing to American racism.
Why though....when American racism includes racism against Mexican nationals, Iranians, etc..?..it's not exclusive to citizens in America nor ever has been...that's why I think to have the conversation you have to be all inclusive. Racism is directed at many people who just don't speak English in public while in the US....it's all part of the conversation. My son experienced it when he accidentally spoke Mandarin in 4th grade here in Oregon and was bullied for it ...he didn't speak Mandarin at all for many years after locals made him embarrassed about it. It was his first year here in public school...it's a world issue. America is part of it but by no means all of it

It's simply "white vs brown". Russia is even more racist than we are.

I think since we have a racist president most of us are concerned with him.

People have selective areas of concern...I look at the big picture..I see it as a human problem with human concerns. I think it exists everywhere on the planet period.

Fair enough. But when talking about remedying the situation I think it must start in the melting pot of America.

I as a human being am *this close* to being actively legislated against by the current administration; it's only been the barest of margins that have kept my rights, rights all of you lot have, from being legally curtailed.

So yes, I have concerns about American Systems of Oppression, and thus I have a focus on the same.

Well for you and I that is the case but as I say, leading by example and living inclusively starts in everyone's home, workplace, etc..we just happen to live here...I have family in four countries and it applies there as well.

The biggest trick the devil played

You could start by listening.

I did! I find the devil has no part in this subject. But if you do, you may feel free to explain it.

Besides, I don't think American Racism is a valid observation. Slavery or Racism did not begin in America. It was in full swing
When the Whites and Blacks first came here. The Slavery ended more than 150 years ago, most of the white people and their progenitors came here since then. There were never much more than 1 million slave owners in this country and some of the biggest were not even white. History now. So what perpetuates this Racism among these new comers? You call racist more than most in this forum. I doubt you find the devil has a hand in this game, unless of course you are one of those that believe the white man is the devil. More than a few do.

No, you DON'T listen. You hear wheat you want and then call people whiners. You have a problem. A big one I hope you eventually get over. This bullshit notion is TIRED.

We've only been "free" for maybe 50 years. My mother was born in 55. Jim crow in FULL SWING.

MLK was shot just 8 years before I was born.

You STILL TO THIS DAY experience benefit from slavery.

Ah! So the white man is the devil.

"There comes a time when silence is betrayal." "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

- Martin Luther King

This topic would be kept productive if we talk about the subject, not each other. It's something I'd like to see adapted to the forum across the board..I'm interested to hear of everyone's family situations concerning the topic and personal experiences...without lines in the sand..just saying

Sure it was. I had no idea the devil was in play. New!

You're completely right. It wasn't the Devil:

Isaiah 45:7 King James Version (KJV)

7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

What the fuck was the reason for this thread? It certainly wasn't to garner any new info.
actually I think it was...and it's important to have these conversations..expressing views on the topic is how people who don't understand gain insight..it they don't, it's not for a lack of trying...

I see. Isaiah is of the Old testament. Interesting reading for back ground in the Religion of Mosses. Are you Jewish, or Muslim?
It is the Muslims (American) that believe the White Man is the devil. They explain it in detail in the Tribe of Shabazz, in the writings of Wallace Fard Muhammad and Elijah Muhammad.

Not for him. His posts don't suggest anything of the sort.

He seems to want to put his spin on it instead of asking a legit question.

What a dumbass post and an even dumber thread.

You never wanted to know, you wanted to tell...

I posted that part of a book that I was inundated with at an early age. I referenced the passage because you said something about the devil. God is the creator of good and evil.

Not sure what your stupid post is supposed to even mean...

Ask yourself for a moment how would MLK address this post....and as I mentioned...share your experience or view with him with the intention of creating an opportunity to teach an old white sailor in his 80s....this thread is valuable on many levels...you should definitely weigh in on the topic. Anything else perpetuates just more of the same division that I would like to see go away....I read his post to be referring to America being called the great satan...which MLK would never accept as truth. The thorns of history are meant to be plucked out and healed.

Read the references. But then perhaps you already have.
Being white, therefore evil has an origin. I think you know.

I still don't know WTF you're talking about.

I'm agnostic.

When I saw this thread and the OP, I had that feeling based on prior posts. I wanted to give Marazul the benefit of the doubt. I was hoping he sincerly wanted to understand and have a civil conversation instead of the usual.
