(a) how do you know? You don't know who else fell in love with this guy. Just because we don't know who the fuck he is doesn't mean people whose job it is to know didn't.
(b) maybe we couldn't get a lower pick. I get the impression this was all rushed and we got the only trade down that was there.

The Pelicans/Hawks deal was announced after ours, don't know if a similar offer may have been available to us at that time but I think I'd rather have Molasses Man at #23 + the 2026 unprotected pick from New Orleans than getting him at #16 + a 2028 pick from Orlando that's likely to fall into the 20s somewhere.
