Event With the 16th pick, Blazers have selected Hansen Yang

I have a pretty good friend who lives in Phoenix; another good friend lives in NY (the state). Both are big NBA fans. They know who Yang is, but the notion that Yang is a big deal outside of Portland doesn't register
Are you saying Yang is not a big deal in China?

Which is certainly outside of Portland and has a population of around 1.4 billion.

AI Overview

Yes, Yang Hansen is incredibly popular in China. He's the first Chinese player drafted in the first round of the NBA in nearly 20 years, and his arrival has generated massive excitement and attention in China, with some describing him as the biggest name in China right now.

now try reading the quoted text in the the voice and style of skip from bull durham when he was giving the team the "lollygaggers" rant as it was intended above.

I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about what I was hearing from friends in other parts of the country.

I sure didn’t know who Yang was before we brought him in for a workout. I think it’s fair to say nobody knew who Toumani or Deni were before we acquired them either but at this point I’m pretty sure since the draft every big nba fan would know who Yang is now. He’s been all over nba coverage since then

How do you think I read it in the first place?

Not me....he was off my radar until the trade...I'd probably seen him play us a couple times and not made note of it.
Certainly nobody on this site was screaming about going and getting Avdija. Even after the trade there was only some speculation that he could contribute. He still only contributed to a losing season and most likely that will be the case again.

I was certainly a Deni fan. I was on the record wanting to draft him. Now I was not advocating to trade for him because I figured he was close to untouchable with his production and team friendly contract. I also new of Camara, only because I live in Phoenix and the locals were raving about him. But they do that with every second rounder here.

The population of Oregon is around 3.5 Million people while the US has about 350 Million people overall. The most popular sports league in China is the NBA with estimates of there being around 400 Million adult fans who watch regularly.

i have missed the last 69 pages more or less.... do we think hes going to the Gleague first to get acclimated or straight to the league first and then see how he does?

No. He's the 3rd string center. That doesn't sound like much, but no way Clingan plays more than 30/night (probably no more than 26 mpg). Rob Will will sit out back2backs. Both of those players have some injury history. Should be consistent minutes for Yang.

Or Duop.

Here's the daily Yang video. In case you needed more Hansen, this is a good watch.

"The selling point with Yang is that he has a rare feel for the game that you can't really teach. He seems to always be in the right spot at the right time."

"For all of the skill in his passing game, though, I'd say his superpower is anticipating openings."

Timelord can also play PF so Yang has an opening to have a backup role every game.

I think so too. Robert Williams III has played in 26 games total in two seasons for the Trail Blazers. That's 16% of 164 games. (and averaging 18 mpg in those games).

Guys, this is the Conductor we’re talking about. Grant will play center before Hansen

There may be some ‘truth’ to that idea, but ... Yang will get early time to see how he does. (And some face time for a few people in another country. Gotta give them a little something early on — they’re fans who’ve waited a while.) Grant should have his hands full at both forward positions. Matisse, Murray, Reath, and Rupert are other options (Time Lord, too …) which is to say that Grant needs to play a lot of forward.

He will get some run. Might only be 10-15 mins a game but he will see the court this year. The team does not practice much during the season. He will need reps.
