Yang has some offensive skills and solid BBIQ, but his lack of foot speed on the perimeter is defensively debilitating. He isn't just bad, he ends up miles from whoever he is guarding after a simple change of direction. I'm not sure how much better that can get.

lol...right

talent isn't part of the equation.

Wembanyama won't be good at basketball till he's fluent in English
Not sure why you brought up Victor, since I didn't compare Yang to him, or say that he'd all the sudden be great at basketball once he learns English.
Also Wemby already *knew* and spoke English when he came to the NBA, had no need for a translator, and Wemby has been playing professional ball, at an elite level, for a long time.

Victor has been playing professional ball since he was 15 and has played and represented his country in basketball for a while now.

Growing up and playing basketball in Europe/France is a lot different than playing basketball in China.

Not only that, the whole fucking point I was making that was that experience makes a difference. If Damian came out as a 20 year old, his NBA arc would have been a lot different than it was. And if Clingan hadn't gotten 2 years of one of the best college programs in the nation, he'd look different.

Balboa had the same problem that got fixed with a chicken.

I get it now...as soon as Yang learns to speak English he'll cut his 3/4 sprint time in half

He’s learning everyday but keep sensationalizing his development. I get that he’s not up to speed. You don’t get that neither was Clingan his rookie season although Clingan had years of coaching in his native language. I know what it’s like to play a sport and have that language barrier to get over. I doubt you have ever dealt with it. Yang is overthinking right now which has been my point. Not that he’s better than Clingan but that both struggled rookie year but there’s a reason one picked things up quicker rookie season. Yang knows he’s not ready yet. The kid has said so on many occasions

Clingan was pretty consistently good his rookie year. Yang has been consistently unplayable. It's pretty obvious by both the stats and eye test. I don't know why you are so fixated on this point with Clingan. There are other terrible rookie centers in history that you could compare him to but Clingan is not one of them.

I never said either guy was terrible nor am I fixated on Clingans early rookie deficiencies but most of last season, he wasn’t ready but sure. Clingan obviously played against more athletic bigs than Yang. I’m not criticizing either guy. Just adding perspective before acting like Yang is a bust. I think he’ll surprise a lot of folks and his second or third year he’ll be up to speed which is normal for a center. Clingan is starting in year two which is a testament to his off season work and not normal for a center

Clingan was pretty good last year.
Shot blocking and offensive boards. He was much slower and offensively challenged. Didn’t finish very well in the paint or shoot well from deep. This season he’s got a complete game. He made a bit of a leap the end of last season but made a huge one this season. He got gassed easily last season. This season he’s an iron man in comparison. I think now he’s one of our best players

Insert the correct font damnit

Just so I know, in case I ever try to post a joke, what is the correct font for a joke?

Arial?
Book Antiqua?
Courier New?
Georgia?
Tahoma?
Times New Roman?
Trebuchet MS?
Verdana?

Those are the only options I see, just want to make sure I get it right.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Sorry man, while DC's conditioning is much better this year, he has shown offensive spark as a rookie. In Feb 2025 against the Nuggets he had a 17 point, 20 rebounds game going against one Nikola Jokic which is pretty good. The next game against Denver he put 21 points, he had multiple double digit games with limited role and playing time.

His PER (a mostly offensive aggregate stat) as a rookie was 17.4 (above starter level center in the league). Yang (in very limited time, admittedly) is at 3.9 (which is below scrub level) - which is absolutely horrendous for a player that was supposed to be an offensive fulcrum.

The reality is that DC was an amazing defensive player as a rookie and a serviceable offensive player. YH is neither.

You can have all the hope in the world for YH - we all do, but comparing him to DC's rookie year is frankly, disrespectful to DC.

I’ve only complimented DC but he was not the player he is this season his rookie year. Yang has been in the G league or on the bench. When he gets some actual burn his stats should reflect that. It’s not just my opinion. Time lord said the same thing about him. I read a ton of S2 posts that claim Yang is a bust which is why I encouraged patience while he gets up to speed. I have more criticisms of Yangs game than I ever did Clingans but I assume people already know DC is our best center now. Next year or two I hope Yang is our best backup. Duop is not going to be that guy

Well, not in this back and forth, but I will state my own slant.

Being right or wrong about a future that has not come to past, is, well......kind of gambling...isn't it? I try to not gamble over things I have no control over. I choose the path of belief. I believe that Yang is going to be a fine player. When? We'll see. So, what's the cost of being perhaps wrong about that?
None.

Were I the Gm for the Blazers, my cost is far different.
