Because the lakers consistently win? Btw, LeBron is 34. 35 going on 36 after next season. Would AD really commit long term to LA next summer?
Lebron at 35 is still better than a lot of NBA players. Not saying he goes to the lakers but I feel it’s a much more realistic destination than us. We couldn’t even convince a washed up Carmelo to come here.

We don’t need to convince AD, we need to convince the Pelicans. The rest will take care of itself. Carmelo had no real relationship with anyone on Portland and is an east coast guy. AD and Lillard are friends. But we can worry about that later

He’s not coming to Portland. He said he wants to join a team that consistently win, not a team he swept in the first round a season ago. I just hope it’s not the lakers or the warriors.
The Blazers consistently win, and are working towards getting better. With AD, they immediately become contenders IMO.

That’s brutal bro.

Props to PG13 and AD, at least they told their teams that they are not re-signing. We got LaMarcus who lied to us and left us for nothing.

Olshey knew for weeks, if not months, before we did.

New Orleans, an unexpected destination for Cousins, knows this all too well.
The Pelicans should have kept him instead of Davis.

I feel like you guys are just getting your hopes up for no reason. I want Portland to succeed as much as any other fan, but truth of matter is we probably have to do it through the draft. I woud love Anthony Davis on Portland with Lillard. I don’t want us to blow our load on him then have him just leave next season. When is the last time in franchise history we were able to get a player of Davis’s caliber here in either trade or free agency?

I really think this type of trade would work. In this scenario the Pelicans not only get two guys that can help them be good now but they get two 1sts too. That would give them 3 1st rounders this year and they could be pretty good next year if they used them wisely.

We get AD but have to take on 2 bad contracts to do so. The other two teams save a ton of money this year.

Our GM ranks at the bottom in his talent to negotiate trades. We have no chance.

I guess Golden State could use him also. Seems like they don't really have to worry about paying players max contracts and paying luxury tax doesn't really worry them.

Stotts really likes Moe and Aminu as his forwards. Maybe they trade for AD and makes AD come off the bench to play back up minutes to Nurk and Aminu so he doesn't have to break up his forwards!

A trade involving 9 players? I'm pretty sure somewhere someone once said that would be one of the most unlikely scenarios you could come up with but boy would it be cool. Exactly what is the biggest trade player wise that has ever happened?

I honestly think it's impossible to build a NBA championship solely through the draft. At least for small market teams. You might be able to build a rough structure of a contender. But that would still needed to get Andre Iguodala or somebody to fill out what you don't have. Drafting for any organization is hard. You got to get just the right amount of info and luck to make it work. Look at OKC, they had some amazing talent on that team and they still couldn't break through. They got close though. But free agency gives you the do over to cover those mistakes you almost certainly going to have.

9 players is a bit high, but there have been bigger ones. I think the unlikely scenarios involve more than 3 teams.

WOW Fire Sale....

The Pelicans have made Nikola Mirotic, Julius Randle, and E’Twaun Moore available in trade talks for Draft Picks, per @ZachLowe_NBA.

Shit, NOLA's GM is still Dell Demps, the guy who tried to gift CP3 to the L*kers. He probably grew up a Lakers fan himself.

My point is Olshey has no excuses. He must pursue AD and put CJ on the table. Otherwise he’s incompetent.

HAHAHA

Yes, Scalma, I'm sure Olshey isn't going to pursue AD and put CJ on the table...

It's not about just pursuing him, he has to outbid 28 teams desperate to get AD (who don't have the ownership questions that we do) and the Pelicans have the ultimate say anyways. We likely just don't have the pieces they're looking for. But regardless of reality, I'm sure Canzano and some delusional fans will think Olshey is just completely incompetent when it doesn't happen.

And without wading through 18 pages of bullshit, has anyone presented an idea in which we would be able to outbid the entire league AND somehow end up a better team than we are currently?

Yes. CJ, Zach, and a first (and/or Simons)

Let’s hear all the better offers.

I wonder if NOLA would take Leonard for Davis. Hey, I can dream, can't I.
