Btw this might actually mean the pelicans are motivated to trade him ASAP. Not sure they wait for Boston. And who’s stopping them from finding out right now whether Boston would give up Tatum anyway? Because if Tatum is a no go, they may as well just trade AD now.

Yeah but Boston has no reason to tell them the truth now. They get what they want by saying sure. They can still offer a better package than LA without Tatum imo and can always say they changed their mind about trading Tatum.

I think that a trade of CJ, Nurk and Harkless plus a future 1st in exchange for AD and Mirotic makes sense. It’s as good a package as Pels would get.

For Portland, this may attract Klay Thompson this Summer - we’d be looking strong for 3/4 years.

Dame
Klay
Mirotic
AD
Collins

With pretty much our current bench - which have been playing great. Bringing in Aminu off the bench adds depth to it.

We wouldnt have cap space for Klay, and we definitely arent getting him to leave GS for us.

For the sake of their fans, I hope the Pels hang tough until they get a decent offer. My sympathies are not with AD or the :hairout::curse: Lakers!
Radio guys this morning said that with Zion being in the draft this year, the Pels would be foolish to not wait at least until the lottery to find out if whoever gets the #1 pick would be willing to offer it up in exchange for AD.

Personally, I think whoever gets the #1 pick would be foolish to offer it up for anything.

I don't get why people keep saying that. Zion is a marketing dream and you'd have control of him for at least 5 years. Why would any of the bad teams give him up for possibly just one year of AD at that point? Anyone who suggests that as an option loses credibility in my opinion.

Agreed. I don't follow NCAA at all. But even I know it would be absolutely STUPID to trade Zion for Davis. Not even Zeke would be so dumb.

Agreed. AD's agent got fined for saying Davis would only re-sign with the Lakers. The longer he stays with a team, the more likely he may re-sign somewhere else. To go to the dumpster fire's that are the Cavs, Bulls, Suns, Knicks...he would be gone in 1 year with the possible exception of the Knicks if they were to acquire someone like Durant.

The only team that would trade the #1 pick for AD is NY. And Woj/Lowe reported this morning that the trade would pretty much just be Zion for AD so that they could pair Davis with Porzingis.

I could see that.

Why would that motivate them to deal asap? If they don't trade him and sit him out, they will likely fall in the standings and pick up a better lottery pick and then trade Davis in the off season which will likely garner better offers than they will receive before the deadline. Win win for the Pels. Better lottery pick and a better package in return.

I would not trade Zion for anyone.

If I'm New Orleans and he says he wouldn't stay with the team they trade him to (outside of the Lakers), I'd just sit his ass down for the rest of this year and next year. He's submarining their trade efforts.

Picks are always worth more as a prospect than they are after the draft. We overrate the unknown. It's the same reason we turned down KG for the #1 pick (Oden) like it was a laughable offer, but an established superstar in his prime turned out to be better in the short term AND in the long run.

We don't know yet which side of that equation Zion will fall on, so it isn't ludicrous for a team to prefer the safe bet (AD), if they think they can retain him.

Also, AD just lost out on his SuperMax but will he really turn down an extra year and 50 mil(5yr/200ish mil) if he likes the team he’s traded to just to be a Laker(4yr/150ish mil)? Especially with the injury history? I don’t know, if he does Lebron has to be his fucking hero or something.

Hindsight is 20/20. It WAS a laughable offer at the time.

If he doesn't end up in Portland, I kind of hope the L@kers trade all their young talent and future draft picks for him, then they don't make the playoffs, LeBron retires, and AD is stuck in LA with no talent during his peak window.

The reality is that no team is going to take Ball in trade as it would be pretty clear he would just resign with the Purple and Piss the first chance he got.

They showed a graphic last night on TV that showed 3 options for AD's next contract. But I only caught the end of it

#1 if he stayed in NO and got the max
#2 if he was traded and resigned for the max
#3 if he was traded, became a FA and then received the max

What is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd options? is it just the number of years?

You toss in whatever draft picks the teams

    • need to make this happen.

NO gets out of big contracts and gets a rental of Gasol that is basically an expiring for them. They get a couple young guys for the future and can start their rebuild.

Memphis gets an elite shooter to put next to Conley and as center to replace Gasol until they can improv.

Again toss in whatever picks each team might want to get them over the edge to make this happen.

Even Better. This give NO a replacement for AD in Collins. A young hopeful. AND we get rid of Turner!!!!!!

The conventional wisdom is that Boston has the best assets to offer, right? And Kyrie has pretty well indicated that he's leaving the Celtics in free agency, right? So then, can anyone explain to me why the Celtics aren't offering those assets and Kyrie to the Pelicans for a Davis package?

Step away from the trade machine.

Huh? Kyrie said he was going to re-sign. Everything else is ESPN made drama about him and LeBron making up.

OK, I'll take your word for it. I recall hearing talk that he wanted to go to NY, that he had clashed with Stevens, etc. But I guess if they think he's staying, then that answers that question.

No way he’s traded before deadline imo. There is zero reason for NO to expedite a trade.

The reason I would say that there is more than a 'zero reason' to expedite a deal is that the longer it goes, the less they will get except possibly from Boston (which I believe his agent has said isn't a preferred destination).

If he were to make 2 Playoff runs with a team and get to the Conference Finals or perhaps even the Finals, it would be more difficult to leave and he would have a stronger bond with the team. Knowing that, teams will offer more now as the albeit small chance of keeping him is higher.

I.e., if he were to come to Portland and get to the WCF this season and maybe even farther next year as I expect GS will make changes in the off-season, it might be tough for him to leave for LA given that LeBron would be 36 that season. A day-to-day hamstring issue is not passed a month. He won't get healthier even as great of a specimen as he is.
