From Rotowire:
Although Bird was able to increase his level of movement Thursday, it appears he's still weeks from returning. Manager Joe Girardi said that the club hopes Bird will be cleared to participate in baseball activities early next week, so a more specific timeframe for Bird's eventual return should become available as his workouts intensify. While Bird is out, Chris Carter is in line to continue spending time at first base.
From this sounds like early to mid june by the time he gets in some minor league games and rehabs. In the meantime play holiday at first and dh ells bury with hicks in CF till bird man gets back.
This is when Joe blows my mind a bit, that Gardner/Ellsbury equation never seems to solve very well. And yeah I like the Hicks/Holliday DH 1st Base idea as a stop gap until the Yankees DFA Carter. I think the Yankees First Base offensive stats are the worst right now.
I guess Girardi is hoping that Carter will come around..........in another decade! Total liability in the
O column & the D column. I wonder who's playing first in Scranton?
