Zach Collins Post-ASG

Can we just call him Collins for now? The last 7' White guy we drafted and nicknamed, failed us big time.

Update:
17 Games (277 min)
FG: 33-74 = 44.6%
3FG: 12-33 = 36.4%
FT: 10-12 = 83.3%
Reb: 60 (7.8/36 min, hard to assess because he plays with Davis who is a monster rebounder)

We have a bigger picture after the last 17 games since the ASG. Again, it's a bit weird to look
at shooting numbers for a defense-first player, but he's still looking very good.

The sample size is still very small. In the 17 games since the all star break, he's making less than 2 FG, less than 1 3FG and less than 1 FT per game.

But the trend is encouraging. In those 17 games, he's basically been an average shooter (league averages .460/.363/.768), which is a significant improvement over his pre all star shooting numbers (.379/.317/.560).

He's still a long way from being a significant offensive contributor, but given his age and his defensive chops, you'll take anything you get from him on the offensive end as a bonus.

The most encouraging thing is that when he does shoot, he shoots without hesitation. That shows he has gained confidence and trusts that the coach isn't going to pull him out of the game if he misses a couple shots. He's earned his minutes with his defense. The offense will continue to improve as he gains experience.

Excellent points, as usual. I'd just add that he has a niche on the team's offense, which I think is important - high post passer/screener into 3 point threat.

You know, now that I think about it, they're doing with Zach just what they tried doing with Luke Babbitt (on offense).

Great game last night against the Clips. Now it's

18 Games (299 min)
FG: 40-84 = 47.6%
3FG: 12-34 = 35.3%
FT: 11-13 = 84.6%
Reb: 62

According to @Boob-No-More above, league averages are .460/.363/.768, so even though the
sample size is small, he's currently above/below/above average.

And that's his 1st year! I can't wait too see how good he will be in 2-3 years. He isn't Meyers or vonleh

Vonleh was several rungs above Meyers in instincts.

But apparently also several rungs below Meyers in his ability to learn the plays. Vonleh's biggest strength is also Meyer's biggest weakness, and vise versa. Meyer's has the entire playbook committed to memory, but lacks the instincts to take advantage of that knowledge. Vonleh has the instincts to react in real time, but struggles to learn the plays.

Overall, Collins is above league average in TS% post all star break. His post all star break TS% is .574. The league average (for the season to date) is .557.

If you can get average to slightly above average shooting from a 20-year old 7' tall rookie with great defensive fundamentals and instincts, you just may have something very special on your hands.
