Defensively, Mirotic has a reputation as an incapable defender, but that could not be further from the truth. According to Synergy, Mirotic ranks in the 95th percentile in half court defense, allowing only 0.769 points per possession. This matches my eye test. Mirotic has great awareness and knows how to position himself on defense to support the backside, help on drives and contest kick-outs. He is also a phenomenal pick-and-roll container, ranking in the 85th percentile. While he is made to look silly against the speediest point guards, he does the subtle things right.
  • Off the screen, he allows .76 ppp, -84th percentile.
  • Defending spot-ups, his .89 ppp allowed -73rd percentile.
  • On post-ups, he holds his man to .77 ppp -69th percentile.
  • .88 ppp when defending in isolation. -52nd percentile.

You watched Mirotic against players that cant make it to the NBA? Cool. Congrats.

You make fun of me for using stats, then use an article cherry-picking stats. RIGHT.

Theres stats you could use to say he's a good defender, and theres stats that you could say he isnt... All I know is hed get BURNED guarding the best players in the NBA. He doesnt have the footspeed and/or the strength to keep up with elite SFs. Layman and Hood certainly cant guard him either.

Blazer fans underrate defense. Most fans do. You can think he's a better defender. I dont care.

And for a team like Utah, Mirotic would be a big upgrade over Aminu. For a team who has a terrible backcourt defensively, replacing two good defending forwards with two bad ones would be terrible.

They usually announce deals up to 2 hours after the deadline, correct? 3 pm ET is deadline to submit paperwork to the league but confirmations can be issued later from what I remember.

I hope we get at least one new player. Mirotic definitely does have to go somewhere.

Yes until everything is said and done it could take a few minutes up to an hour. I wouldn't say more than 1h.
 
I guess I am just cautiously optimistic. I don't expect anything. I think something needs to be done. I like Mirotic. That would make me happy as a fan because I am tired year after year seeing every damn team in the west make moves and get better while we just stay with our core and keep getting bounced out of the first round because the same old scheme is ran on CJ and Dame defensively and it works every fucking time.

I would call him reliable. Not in the same league as Lowe or Woj but way ahead the likes of Steve Kyler and those other guys.
 
Moe + Aminu + 1st for Gordon work on the Trade Machine. But to be honnest I have a hard time believing this.

Haha same it's 3.20pm here now and i just came Home from work. Now i'm going to spend the whole day watching News on Twitter..... and probably watch other Teams improve by trades while the Blazers do nothing...

I’ll give Olshey that one. That was his first basketball move in years. Didn’t cost him any of his boys though. Let’s see him actually risk something.

Yeah, a minor deal for a middling player, sending out 4 assets for the privilege. I'm talking about deals that will actually impact the direction of the team.

I'm copyrighting "No-Deal Neil" today, and will beat the new moniker to death until he either leaves or proves me wrong.

No-deal implies that he doesn't/hasn't made deals. He completed a trade within the last couple of days. Your moniker has been proven wrong before you even uttered it.

With that said, I would like to see a more substantial change in direction as well.

If you prefer, I can go with "Kneel-or-no-deal" Olshey; perhaps that will clarify my intent.
