Yeah, he had one of those partial-guaranteed contracts next year which made the money less than if we sent Leonard and a 1st over. If you think about it though trading Simons and a contract for Mirotic would have been exactly what it took last year too since Simons ended up being our 1st round pick. Despite what Olshey says I don't believe our Trade Exception was ever in play because of the tax. So it would've been something like Leonard, Vonleh, and our 1st (Simons) for Mirotic.
Yeah but we would’ve also had Mirotic for a year and a half, rather than a couple months. We wouldve had him for two runs instead of one. That matters too. Mirotic also had a club option for this season, which added to his value last year.
I’d be shocked if the Pelicans got a first for him without taking on money.
