Yeah but we would’ve also had Mirotic for a year and a half, rather than a couple months. We wouldve had him for two runs instead of one. That matters too. Mirotic also had a club option for this season, which added to his value last year.

I’d be shocked if the Pelicans got a first for him without taking on money.

Fantasies aside, Portland should be trying to get Mirotic for their pick and Meyers.

I thought part of the hold up in the trade last year was that Mirotic vetoed the trade, which he had the right to do, if his option wasn't picked up as part of the trade. It forced New Orleans to take on another year which they initially didn't want to do because they thought Cousins might be back.

I can't see the Pelicans taking on salary as they don't seem to value draft picks a lot. It's like they know they are going to have to tear it down but are going to be stubborn and try to salvage things.
 
I think we get AD if we offer CJ, Zach, 2019, 21, and 23 firsts and right to swap 2020, 22, 24 firsts. I think it would be worth it because Dame, AD and Nurk are a core that can win championships.

Well, they’re going to be forced to value picks now. And the best way to get them is to take on money. It’s crazy how few assets that team has outside of Davis and Jrue. Mirotic is an expiring. Randle has a player option, so he may as well be one. They need to start stocking picks.

So Harkless/Turner for AD? Leonard/Turner? Come on...you have to give to get. I will agree the Blazers won't trade anyone named Simmons....since they have no player on their team with that name.

Yeah, I know what they should do or what we'd do if we were in their position but that isn't necessarily what they will do given their GM's history.

I think this became bigger than the GM once Davis requested a trade. Not sure ownership even trusts Demps enough to let him be in charge of trading AD. Wouldn’t be surprised if they fired him and just waited until the summer to move Davis.

Several owners have just gone around their GM's and traded key players by approving deals they negotiated themselves. Besides, there is a good chance Demps would just leave anyway if he was frozen out.

That might be true. I think sweeping us in the playoffs might be the worst thing that happened to them because they thought they were better than they were (I don't know what that says about us, ha ha) and it saved Gentry and Demps from being fired. Their ownership situation is somewhat similar to ours as Gayle Benson just recently got the team when her husband died and who knows what she's willing to do.
 
CJ/Zach is better than anything the lakers could put together. Ingram is in his third year and is still more potential than production. Ball sucks. Kuzma isn’t as good as CJ and I don’t see him as a lead guy on a team anyway.

Who are the Knicks offering? Porzingis? Because outside of him, what do they have that’s better?

I swear if Olshey doesn’t get involved here...

The front office could theoretically prefer to receive an established player, so the team’s fan interest and attendance doesn’t dwindle."

O'Connor follows that up by suggesting a team like the Blazers, with a trade offer built around an established star like CJ McCollum, could be a surprise contender in the Davis sweepstakes.
 
Contending teams with lesser stars, such as the Trail Blazers with CJ McCollum, could surprising us by entering the Davis sweepstakes, much like the Raptors did for Leonard by dangling DeMar DeRozan or Oklahoma City did for Paul George. New Orleans, an unexpected destination for Cousins, knows this all too well. The Lakers were ironically considered favorites for all three of those stars at one point.

No player is worth 6 first round picks (even if three of them are swaps). Certainly not an often injured PF who may not be around for 4 of those 6 years. That would be incredibly bad management to tie up all our draft picks through 2024.

OK, this trade gets rid of CJ. Holiday and Covington to the Blazers; CJ and Aminu to the Wolves; Gibson and Okogie to New Orleans. We send a first round pick to NO also.

CJ would be perfect for the Pelicans. It would be his team. As he has shown in games without Dame, he probably welcomes the idea. If Dame really is his friend, he will understand as well. Jrue and CJ would be a pretty filthy duo and they compliment each other better than Dame and CJ. Collins also compliments Randle with his defense.

I honestly believe there’s a deal to be had between the two teams. It only took a couple hours to convince myself. But seriously, Olshey must put CJ on the table and see where it leads.

I noticed because you're one of the only ones not talking about it in there. I think the twitter posts about what the Pelicans are looking for should be in there.
 
We only have two games before the deadline and the team is at home through it all. They also have five days off after tomorrow nights game. Seems like an ideal time to finalize a deal, if there is one. I remember the Nurk trade was done about a week or so before the deadline. Teams that make sense as trade partners (Atlanta, New Orleans) don’t need to wait. Get me Mirotic now ok thanks.

After tomorrow's game, I expect to hear more of Portland being more serious in their discussions. Exploratory so far from the little bit that has been passed along. Due diligence is fine up to this point but by tomorrow, I want Olshey to go into full court press mode.
