To equate us getting Scoot by making an unequivocally bad trade while potentislly alienating Dame for good, and framing this as intelligent....is just something I can't get around.Part of it, for sure. It was easier to tank without him. That meant more ping-pong balls. It's really not that hard to do. You can't play the "You should have known he would opt in" game if you are not willing to acknowledge what happened because he was traded as well. They took a calculated risk, and they scored. Good for Portland.
The Hart trade was not unequivocally bad. Get off your high horse. To equate us getting Scoot by making an unequivocally bad trade while potentislly alienating Dame for good, and framing this as intelligent....is just something I can't get around.
He played 13 games after the trade. That's an extremely small sample size. He returned to the mean the next season. He shot lights out in PDX the year prior. Yeah he had a three months bad shooting streak to start the season, even Dame has had those. He brought defense and rebounding unlike any other player or even starter on the Blazers roster.

I like the idea of getting Mo with or without Dame. Using part of the MLE to do so.We need size. Mo Bamba getting waived moves him to the top of my list of realistic targets.

Our genius GM has done exactly what he needed to. He upgraded the talent for this team in a very short time. It's a shame that it is not likely to get Dame an opportunity to lose again in the 2nd round, but that's the game of chance.
Loved Hart as a role player, would have been great if the rest of the team was good enough to be a contending team. It was not so the right decision was made. Ship him to NYK, tank, get a chance on another all-world talent + nice role player in #23.
If the alternatives are see Dame going super-nova to tap out at the 2nd round or suck for a couple of years at a chance of building something special, you would have to be a special kind of genius to choose option 1.
Only real assets we got in 2 years of Joe taking over are the two players we tanked two seasons for, and Dame. Nice.

And cost Dame a possible all nba 1st team and soured him on the team to the point of finally asking out.Trading Hart helped the tank immensely.

I believe it is best for him to take a mental break from the forum and the team. It is getting to him too much this year. He sounds broken and I feel bad that he let the team get him in this place. The Hart trade was not unequivocally bad. Get off your high horse.
Lol
Is Murray's ceiling close to what Hart is now?
Thybulle was part of the GP2 trade. And I dont think will get paid as much as people presume in this new landscape. It's not a bad trade if we never thought that we could realistically build a contender around Dame.
Hart is going to be a highly paid role player. That's fine if you're a good team, but we are not a good team.
We got #23 and we got Thybulle out of the deal. Thybulle is a better defender than Josh.
yes and no. Yes, sign-and-trades happen all the time. But no, I never heard KP announce that he's opting in, but asking for a trade. There was not an announcement in the KP transaction. The announcement from Harden was what I found to be weird. It just happened with Porzingis in WAS.

I have no problem with trading Hart if we rebuild. But then why two days ago are we still releasing statements of primarily building a winning team here with Dame?
If we are rebuilding why trade the Duren assets for Grant? None of the moves make sense sense together. It's like we literally had 5 different GM's and they take turns running the team.

They are both still eligible for two-way contracts, correct? I don't think them getting the QO affects Portland's free agency plans. We just gave both Badji and Butler QO's. Not sure what the plan is there. Looking to go young?
I think it's clear we disagree on this. I don't consider Josh Hart to be a "bad asset."Or, they don't do it, they don't get pick #23, Hart does not opt in for $13m in Portland and the Blazers select pick #9 at the draft or try to trade him for some underwhelming veteran help that does not pan out and Dame gets frustrated and asks out.
We can both play the what-if. Moving Hart was the right thing to do. The Blazers got lucky, but they would not have if they did not create the opportunity to get lucky. That's what GMs with bad assets have to do.

Let's move on.
Hart is a player that someone like PHX would die to have as the 6th man but even if Dame does stay, it is hard to justify his rumored, soon to be, contract (4 x 20) in this new CBA marketplace. Man things are messed up.I don't think he's a bad asset at all. I consider him to be a luxury that we can't afford right now (because I don't think Dame is staying.)
