Loved the win. I just don’t understand why they shoot so many 3’s when they’re so bad at it.
Its not like we're great shooting long 2s.

Clearly the Blazers are trying to get layups and easy 2s first if they can. But often those aren't available. Jacking 3s in those cases then locking down the opponent with exceptional defense is a great plan.

Our shot ranges are like 40% 3p, 30% 0-3ft, 20% 3-10ft (I think this is mostly trying to draw fouls). 10% everything else. We are hyper-optimizing out there, and it leads to missed threes. But the rebounds on those are high and wide, perfect for chaos ball wings like Camara and Grant and Murray to snap up and drive to the hoop on. It's a lot like what Houston used to run, except we're not prioritizing drawing fouls like they did with Harden.

Tiago is a good coach. I like what he sees in the players, and what he's getting from them on the court is shocking given all that's happened. Have we ever had a coach start his first season with us 4-1?
Jack Ramsay did. Same with Dunleavy

4th in the west. Haven't seen anything like this in years!

Yeah I've been super impressed. When LMA signed in SAS I always talked about how his legacy changed from possibly the best recent Blazer to 7th best recent Spur just after Splitter. Jokingly but it was also partly true.

Never imagined Splitter would look this good as a head coach less than a decade later.

Tiago was their starting 5 last time they won the chip.

You know if Shaedon ends up being more Stacey Augmon than Clyde Drexler, I'm okay with that. He won us the game tonight as much as any of them.

Watching the 4th quarter, I have to say the kids on this team are maybe the best "backing band" a Big Name Star Point Guard could possibly want. It's like Cronin was so mad he had to trade Jrue to Boston, he spent two years making the team exactly what Jrue needed to succeed, just to get him back.

Huge win tonight. Has me legit wondering if we can compete for a winning record just at 42-40.

There's going to be some teams injured or disappointing or that flip to tanking that we can get some wins on.

Padding some wins with this very difficult early schedule could open up a lot of possibilities.

Chauncey was 3-2 (but he bet the over at 2.5)
Terry Stotts was 2-3
Nate McMillan was 3-2
Maurice Cheeks was 2-3
Mike Dunleavy was 4-1 (actually started 5-1 and 7-2)
PJ Carlesimo was 3-2
Rick Adelman was 4-1
Mike Schuler was 1-4
Jack Ramsay was 4-1 (actually started 9-1)
Lenny Wilkins was 2-3
Jack McCloskey was 1-4 (actually started 1-11)
Roland Todd was 2-3

This win was huge for how it will solidify their mentality and reputation. They don't look like kids out there anymore. They are locked in. They want to win as many games as they can rip from the hands of their opponents. Focusing this group on steals and disruption is fucking genius because they're all so damn eager to contribute. Every play, any one of them can be The Guy Who Wins The Play. The exact opposite of Simons/Ayton ball. Kids like this feed on the action, get motivated by it. If any of them can win the play, they'll want to try to win the play! The feedback loop is instant, the game must be a total rush of dopamine every second you're on the court. That makes you hungry. It's the drug of winning, microdosed for 48 minutes, chased so hard to get the big hit of winning the game. That is how championship teams are made.

This team will make noise when Dame comes back. The two of them playing 24 minutes apiece in shifts with these kids will win a championship.
Concern I have is the defense. We don't really have any shit defenders right now. That's after decades of always having two or more with Dame, CJ, Melo, last year Ayton and Ant. It's so amazing.

But with Dame we're not going to be able to play this defense.

We also don't really have any ball stoppers.
