That's what he shoulda done last year instead of going all in on the whale itself like he did with ET's contract. Thank God Parsons spurned us.

Thank God Almighty

Neil said he was never really looking to sign Parsons...just due diligence...I like Turner...we needed a defender and ball handler...Turner got a good deal but I think long term he'll earn it.

Who wouldn't say that about parsons? Better yet who would admit to wanting him at this point. Gotta save face where he can.

70 mil for Turner on day 1 of free agency when he literally had no other offers is most definitely not a good deal.

He even mentioned he was shocked at the number. That's never a good sign.

He signed Turner.....all Turner's teammates miss him....he's got skills and I think he's a solid piece....I've never regretted signing Turner...I have regretted Crabbe's deal...I would have never matched the Nets on that one....

We can't wait around to sign guys in Portland...snooze you lose around here in free agency...it comes down to whether you like Turner or not....I like the guy. I totally understand why Neil wanted to bring him in....he's not popular around here though it seems.

Turner is fine as a 4yr/ 50 mil contract for what he brings-- I like him in the bench role if Stotts can figure him out. But 4/70 was and still is nuts. When you have to attach assets to rid yourselves of a contract, it's never good.

We spent every last penny we could before the luxury tax threshold on guys who are not difference makers (ET/AC/Leonard/Ezeli). And we misjudged the cap situation moving forward. It's too bad KD made his decision to leave to GS on July 4. I have an inkling that we wouldn't have splurged on ET on July 1/2 if we knew that was going to happen. It's 100% hindsight, but Neil gets a big fat F for last summer-- it sets us back years in our development.

I disagree with this...we are not going backwards at all after last season....now that Plumlee is Nurk and Collins is Meyers...I see a bright future for the franchise. I'm all in this season....really feel good about where we're going....I know many, many posters here think we're in purgatory but I'm not in that camp at all.

Turner could have been signed for a shorter contract or even a 1-year. No one else was offering near as much and even Turner admitted he was surprised at how much the offer was.

The Draft happens every year regardless of the Cap so that doesn't really apply to what I was referring to. Sure, they could have let Crabbe walk. There were numerous players for 1/4 of what Crabbe got that produced more than he did. Completely one-dimensional and not aggressive at the one thing he is good at. HUGE overpay.

You think Turner leaves Boston for a 1 YR contract? His love for that place and the reciprocation of the love is no secret. Yeah he was surprised, as I'm sure a lot of players were when the salary cap skyrocketed. Conley was surprised he was the highest paid player in the league. Players look for security.

The draft is part of player acquisition and roster to development, or adding to the roster. We were able to acquire a player we wouldn't have been able to otherwise by packaging a pick we received in compensation for Plumlee, which was a direct result of our salary cap.

So, I'm still waiting - what would you have done?

If I'm right, sign Turner for Less, let Crabbe walk and target WHO? And then look at how much money that player makes. You have the benefit of hindsight.

Which leads us to, if you were our GM you'd have

Our exact same team, minus Nurk, Collins, Crabbe add Plumlee, and for good measure we will assume we still draft Collins since we probably get a better draft pick.

So, do you let Plumlee walk? Sign him? Assuming you got ET to sign a one year deal, sign him again, let him walk? Chase after other FA's? What other FAs do you chase after (you have a good barometer based on reported deals so far). Keeping in mind how and why some of those players agreed to lesser dollar amount contracts and the limited cap space the Blazers would have by merely shedding Turner and Crabbe, but retaining the QO for Mason.

How many people are going to say this and how many times is it going to be said? We know... :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:
When Batum got matched after the Wolves tried to get him he said the same thing..."I'm not going to lie...that's a good contract"....yep...we have to pay players until a draft pick shows us allstar potential.

People forget you need to pay for defense .....get a defender and if he can't shoot like CJ he's going to be considered a mistake by a lot of folks...from what I've seen Turner, Aminu and Nurk are our best defenders and it's not even close from there down the roster...

It catapulted us years in development. We don't have Nurkic if we don't sign both Crabbe and Turner. We aren't looking to deal our starting C unless we were trying to save money.

KCP on the open market now? That Knicks offer to THJ looks even worse and it hasn't even been 24 hours.

And NY/BK both have their $ tied to other RFAs. Market just dried up. If I were WAS or ATL, I'd go after KCP for cheap.

ATL is in the driver's seat on this one. More cap than the Wiz. They get an upgrade on a cheaper contract.
