I came here to see all the verbal and mental gymnastics done to turn this into a good trade for us... 35 years old, still owed 100M...

Yeah, I've been trying to spin it. The fact is that other than last season Jrue is way better than Ant. If you think last season is a trend line then Joe definitely fucked up but if you think last season was just a matter of health that Jrue can come back from then we got the better part of the deal.

I'm hoping we flip Jrue because I always wanted Ant traded to free up time and the ball for Shae and Scoot. I shoud probably trust my initial reaction which was that this deal just doesn't make sense for our team as constructed.

Even last year jrue had positive BPM where Ant was negative, but it true that the delta between was closer to 1.0 BPM where it was 2 and higher before

Yeah, if you think Jrue is as good as last season or he can even come back up a little then he had more value than Ant. I just don't know if that value makes sense here. Still hoping for another trade or trades to make this first one make sense. It could be flipping Jrue or it could be a bunch of shit I don't even see coming.

Holiday is a better overall player and fits the defensive culture. Once Grant/Ayton are moved, Holiday’s salary will be a nonstarter if we keep him. And if we do we trade him in a year or so to free up the salary for a Deni extension.
Not spin, just actual opinions. :)

Holiday doesn't need the ball in his hands like Ant so that frees up more ball time for Scoot and Shae.

win win in my book.

Some sources say he is, some say that isn't true. Who knows?

over the last 5 seasons he's played on teams that averaged 57 wins, played in 70 playoff games, and won two championships

he's 35 years old, entering his 17th season, and will be going to his 5th team; and playing for a 4 year lottery team in a conference that isn't getting weaker. If he isn't a little bit pissed-off and disappointed, it would be amazing. He may not fully buy-in to what Joe and Chauncey are selling,
however, I've seen nothing in his past that suggests he won't be professional in his approach to the Blazers

I would imagine he'd welcome a follow-up trade to a contender, but the odds of that, now, seem really low

Yeah thats a very fair way of summarizing it.

Was Jrue decline last season an unusual health year or indicative of his age? If health and he bounces back this could be a home run. If its age then we're really screwed.

If only actual basketball skills were what mattered, but I guess it's all about balance sheets.

If it were all about balance sheets this is a fucking awful deal with way too much risk for the additional almost 80M investment.

Meh. Could be his fault but he seems pretty nervous. Not that uncommon for nervous/introverted people to stumble in an arena like that.
If you're a real fan of our team do you think even with nerves getting the best of you that you'd fumble Ant's name? I mean Ant was on the team for 7 years. I mispronounce the last name Simmons now because of Ant.

I don’t know much about the city’s governance, but last time I was in Portland, it seemed to me that politicians might have one or two more pressing matters to address. Maybe I’m wrong, it probably depends on this guy’s actual responsibilities. Still, when politicians use their platform to talk about something as trivial as sports, I find it a bit surprising.

Given the current state of things in Salem, perhaps that's a good thing.

Be like me: ignore financials and just watch the basketball. We may well all be dead before Jrue is washed.

Yes. Ive seen people spend weeks preparing and fumble pronunciation.

Anferneee Simmmmons

How in the hell??

I could understand if he said Anfernee wrong, but ffs, it's not like his last name was something like Tsakalidis or Valančiūnas or one of the other last names that Mike Rice would butcher (on purpose).

Yeah that dude is not a Blazers fan. It's political performative nonsense or should I say American politics business as usual.

The Senator could not even say Ant's name right so as far as I am concerned he prolly is not even a fan so he should STFU -- period
