Crazy suggestion: Start Brandon Roy

You're making it sound like Roy just had ACL surgery or micro-fracture and was fine before that. 2.5 months ago he had a minor scope of both knees cleaning them out, there is not an extended recovery period for that procedure. If there was a more major surgery to fix his knees he would have done that but multiple surgeons have said there’s nothing they can do about his knees, they are forever damaged. The final meniscus removal he had with the rush back for last years playoffs were the final straw that broke his knees. If he can fill in for spot minutes off the bench that’s fine, but we shouldn’t play him minutes out of loyalty and potentially sacrifice playoff wins just because he was a better player years ago.

Give me one player that has come back after having those two minor surgeries you just talked about?

The thing is, it's possible to "come back" but the point of contention is to what level Roy will be able to achieve. Will he ever be the Roy we knew, or is the current Roy the best it will ever be?

I think somewhere in between. Possibly a player that works this off-season on a game fitted to his condition. Like I mentioned on the other thread, Roy worked last offseason on a game fit with the "old roy". I suspect he will work on a game that caters to his ability now.

I don't think him starting is really going to help him much and it will hurt the one guy on the team who shoots an above average percentage from the 3-point line (Wes).

I thinking wishing B-Roy was dead is fucking insane.
If you feel that way, please feel free to stop watching the Blazers.

I don't actually begrudge B-Roy the money.
He took this team out of a death spiral and made them respectable again.

However, I do wish there was a way to keep his salary from counting against Portland's salary cap.

Roy looks so tentative....alot of times he gets into the lane and passes the ball out. he needs to look to score

Canzano was just on 95.5 with John Lund, says he had a chat with Roy. Again, it's Canzano, so filter the commentary however you will:
  • Roy thanked Canzano for the article about him
  • Roy says his issues are ALL mental; feels no physical problems
  • Says Roy has been unsure of his post-injury role on the team up to this point
  • Says "something seemed to have clicked" with Roy after game 1, believes he will be very aggressive tonight
IF Roy actually is able to score, then I will welcome some aggressiveness from him. I'm curious to see if Canzano's inferences hold true. If he can effectively embrace the "off-the-bench-scorer" role, then we will be VERY dangerous going forward

Just words right now. Hopefully action speaks louder than them. I will cheer him on and hope he puts his money where his mouth is. If he can do this, then Dallas is in some serious trouble.

Roy's first possession of Game 1, as I recall, was a nice hard drive left-step back for a score. He wasn't all athleticism, even in his prime...he was also crafty and had nice body control. If he can generate some baskets through guile, like Andre Miller does at times, he'll be a useful reserve. He really needs to pick his spots, though.
