I don't blame him for wanting out, but he's full of shit for saying how doesn't want to go to an already made team and then demanding Miami.

He's no better than the ring chasers he used to chastise.

He should have been making a stink *years* ago.

But honestly, there wasn't a trade they could do that would make them a legit contender anyways.

The NBA is going to market the hell out of him now. Especially since he's out of the city that none of them think should have a team in the first place.

Let's hope scoot and Shaedon are part of a better complete team.

If he said he doesn't want to play for a team with multiple all-stars, then I agree that isn't in line with going to Miami.

I can't see a scenario where he would want to be traded from Portland, to go to another team that is built like Portland. Going to a team ready to win a championship only makes sense.

we should be happy getting out of that albatross contract and gettin a "decent" return, the longer we waited the worse it was going to be. Now Scoot and Shae team will not be hamstrung by that deal.

you're making several assumptions there

one is that Dame's contract will still be "albatross" when the cap could be in the 175-190M range

the other is that Portland will not have to take back any other albatross deals in the Dame trade

Maybe he did it on purpose. If he doesn't tank the offers, no team could give up near equal value and still be a contender.
Exactly. The real question is this: Is Dame a Snake in the Grass, or a Moron?

he will be 25 in less than a month, you dont rebuild with 25 yo
25 is perfectly fine to rebuild with (not saying I want him specifically). You can't have guys all the same age (in years of experience) or it kills you when they are all up for contracts at the same time.

He won't need to. And he shouldn't anyway, because all our young players will be in training. That would be very bad for player and team development.
Cronin has already installed a losing culture. We watched Billups benching guys that were playing good. The GM only cares about getting good rookies and facilitating an optimal price for the future sale of the Blazers.

it really doesnt hurt me, probably cause we have scoot & sharpe (but im a little disappointed in dame lillard after all loyalty talk, hes not different than other ring chasers)

if we didnt have them, it would be a different story, but this is best possible thing for our franchise

1. It is not Portland’s job to make other teams or Dame happy. If he goes to a team in the East that has “a shot” after the trade is completed, then that’s good enough for him. Portland can tell another team what they want from a 3rd or 4th team — it’s their job to make it happen.

2. No team in the West gets Dame. Just no. And the Spurs got lucky with Wemby so that’s all the luck they get for a decade. All California teams (except SAC) can always pound sand.

3. Miami’s best offer sucks. Sucks boulders. IMHO, I realize, but really? Who are these basketball minds that think it’s good? AND with any player that would be moved —Herro — please state where, and that’s Miami’s job (or any team’s) to serve up an actual deal.

4. I understand the negativity, or realistic view, that sending out the superstar almost never gets a fair return. BUT hope is still a good thing.

5. Brooklyn, Toronto, Boston, and Philly have players.
Claxton and CamJohnson and picks.
Scottie Barnes
Jaylen Brown (resigned but wouldn’t be supermax, I believe)
Maxey

6. Dame is not being traded one year TOO LATE. That is true — not that I have to like it.

San Antonio has 12 first rounders in the next seven years, according to Lowe's podcast from earlier today.

San Antonio would actually be my first choice... we'd get the best picks haul and I don't think San Antonio would be a contender during Dame's current contract.

Can we loop them in as a third team?

I just don’t see the Spurs contending with him so not sure they want to speed up their timeline. But that’s be the best partner for us.

I realize contending would be a bit less likely — unless Wemby just explodes. But unless you really like the Spurs they just don’t deserve Lillard. And didn’t LMA go there? No.

So he lied. Or his mouthpieces lied.

If that's the case, it's silly. No one would begrudge him wanting to go to a ready-made contender. Now, it does look bad in line with stuff he said earlier, but very few people would have held it against him.

Of course, saying you don't want to do that and doing it five days later is kind of a sketchy look.

Wow! The fact that you want him to go to a place where he can't contend tells me a lot.

Funny yesterday Harden was all the news, now he doesn't exist.

I know people want to fantasize about Portland trading Dame to a team that has a bunch of draft picks. But the ideas don't seem anywhere close to real world to me. The Spurs mention pretty obviously was a typo by Woj he quickly corrected. But people here are running with it without considering Why the Spurs would cash in so many of their rebuilding assets when they are right at the beginning of a rebuild

Woj mentions this. Dame said he would wait through Free Agency to see what would happen. Then 1 day into Free Agency, he requests a trade. That doesn't seem to be in alignment.

Well... if I'm Dame and I'm sitting there watching what we were all watching, and we're not connected to ANY free agents. There is zero movement on trading Ant. Why sit and wait another couple weeks?

our GM has no backbone. but we have no reason to give him up for pennies.

his ESPN partner Ramona reported today that he originally said that, but then told portland later that evening that he's out

I actually haven't heard Dame say he didn't want to play with other all-stars, so I can't call him a liar.

If I held everyone in sports accountable for reports of what they want, then I guess everyone would be a liar.
