and it's CJ Verdell, not Verdego. That was a Jimmy Stewart movie
The Portal offers no guarantee's that a player will be picked up. They will lose their scholarship and potentially ned their football careers.
Id like to see a listing of players that were not picked up off the portal.

ducks are playing down at UCLA tonight. UCLA shoots so well and they play really tough defense. I gave up on the Ducks in the first few minutes but they actually led 24-23 at one point. Down 35-30 at half, shooting 10 for 33 overall and 1 for 9 from 3.

Ducks up 44-37 early in the second; I don't know how. Dante doing well, UCLA doubling him a lot.

Oregon up by four under a minute left but turns the ball over twice, including right under their own basket, going to overtime.

Nice win. Got lucky after that bad mistake with the pass under the basket in Regulation. Glad to see the ducks pull it out.

I hope that some of them can coach too!
Great recruiting was what Cristobal had going and look where that got them. I'd say you could pin almost every loss the past couple years on being straight up outcoached. I have a feeling Lanning will have the defense ready but I worry how good the young OC Dillingham will be with in-game adjustments. We'll see.

yeah, my buttcheeks launched me about 14 inches off my chair when that pass was made

I'm looking forward to this new era beginning. But finding a TOP QB will be what gets the Ducks over the top. I hope Thompson can be that guy, but bring Nix into the MIX makes me wonder about that.

I very much doubt he was invited to play of the Ducks. Can you imagine if college programs started trying to poach players from other teams? More than likely Nix looked at the situation and figured he had a greater chance of playing at Oregon than at Auburn. That seems like a fair bet on his part but him making such a bet is more about the confidence in himself and the familiarity with a coach than a reflection on the QBs on Oregon's roster.

While the results were mixed, Nix was the starter at Auburn for 3 years before breaking his ankle with 2 games to go in 2021. In the remaining games, both losses, his backup (TJ Finley) didn't light it up. Had Nix returned, why wouldn't he have been the presumed starter in 2022? Your closing part about reuniting with Dillingham, possibly not liking the direction of the Auburn program, plus the allure of getting a fresh start are my best guesses why he chose to bolt. At least according to the rating services, Oregon has far more competition in their QB room then the Tigers.

Mahomes didn't do anything in his first season, and in hs 2nd season, had a much better team around him
In his rookie year (2017), Mahomes sat and watched the Chiefs go 10-6. Due to injury, Herbert took over early on in his rookie campaign in 2020. The Chargers went 5-11 the year prior.

relax....I wasn't comparing the skills of Herbert and Mahomes. I was simply pointing out that Mahomes didn't have numbers in his first season so was not competitive with Herbert in the 'first-2-seasons' stats

Travis Dye enters the transfer portal.

Kind of a bizarre move. Last guy I thought would want to transfer.

This Dye portal thing makes me wonder if the team is going to pass more cause it felt like the team was like 35 to 40 % pass and 65 to 60 % Run and while it worked at times I kind of believe it made the ducks a tad more predictable. I am wondering if the new coaching staff is thinking of maybe balancing it out maybe cutting down on the carries maybe even going more pass then run but only thing that MIGHT make sense.

there could be a lot of explanations for this

* maybe the simplest: Dye has graduated and will be a grad transfer. It may be that Oregon does not offer the master's degree program Dye wants to enter

* the new coaching staff could have told Dye that the run game was going to be different this season and he wouldn't be the featured every-down RB

* being in the Portal offers Dye lots of options. He can still talk to the Duck coaching staff. He can now talk to the coaching staffs of other schools and that would include discussing NIL opportunities. He can do all that and still explore his NFL opportunities from the portal

being in the Portal can be just a way that Dye can explore all the options he has in front of him. He still can return to Oregon from the portal

Dillingham is tight with Nix and his family from what I hear

Surprises me too, but I guess the Portal is allowing players to be free agents in a since. It gives them an opportunity for a difference experience. The weather in Miami would be attractive for a young athlete.

The portal thing is really crazy. I was thinking about this last night when Altman didn't play his five star freshman, Bittle, for one minute. What if the kid was offended and decided to transfer, or do they have to wait a minimum number of years?

Not really sure, good question.

No they dont, they just have to be academically eligible and can only transfer one time for their career.
They can take their name out well if they change their mind.

Herbert is a testament to how shitty the ducks coaching staff was.

*Runs*

more of a testament to what having a good receiving corps can do for a QB.

if he would have had been throwing to guys like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams at Oregon, he would have been in the Heisman conversation
