Agreed he looks promising at first blush. Here's hoping he's bonded with colleges as well as who his Assistant Coaches will be is the next question. With the 9Mil from Mario's buyout added onto the top, the available salary pool Oregon has to spend on those who support Lanning is considerable.

Ya know STOMP I used to hate you but as years have passed our bond for Oregon is UNBREAKABLE

Though it was going to happen regardless of what Mario did, I'm really looking forward to having a QB who can pass next year. The last two seasons have been a painful watch from that perspective even though the WR & TE ranks are stocked. The OLine should have some turnover too (Bass will be missed), but also for the better overall as there are many young studs ready to step up. The next OC will be stoked with whats in place.

Any ideas on who may be candidate for OC & DC coordinators?

reports are that Lanning has a very good relationship with Kenny Dillingham, the OC for Florida State. They worked together on the same coaching staffs at ASU & Memphis.

Kenny Dillingham

personally, knowing what little I do about him, I'm not real comfortable with Dillingham. He's only 31 years old. Coupled with Lanning only being 35, that seems like inviting too many steep learning curves to the situation. I'd feel better if Lanning hired a more experienced OC because I think, given Lanning's expertise, the OC will be his most critical hire, especially if the OC has credentials as a QB coach

I've heard 3rd hand that Lanning has agreed to listen to advice on assistant coaches from the Duck 'establishment'. I've also hear that establishment will be willing to spend plenty of money on coaching salaries. Between the likely reduced rate for a 1st time head coach and the 9M buyout from Miami, the Ducks will have plenty to spend, at least they will initially

I know that many at Oregon would really like to hold onto Bryan McClendon, the WR coach. He was named the acting head coach thru the bowl game. But he's not ready to be an OC yet IMO, although sometimes being named a co-OC keeps a coach happy, even if the title is simple resume padding

pay attention to recruiting coordinator(s) and analyst positions. The impact some of those guys have is very underrated. Oregon already has a good recruiting coordinator in Don Johnson. But there's no rule saying a team can't have 2 coordinators

Perhaps we can peel away Musgrave from Cal. Kind of give Wilcox a double F U

Lake as a young D guru hired a 0c that help him lose his job. Many suspected the hire from the outset.
It’s critical that DL gets this right as a first time head coach.
Riley still called plays at OK, I assume he will at SC, plus he’s QB coach.
I hope Dan gets a guy that’s good with developing qb’s too.

a name for OC to keep an eye on is Phil Longo, the OC at North Carolina. Has a lot of experience as an OC. He and Lanning worked together at Sam Houston State and reportedly are real close

Longo develops pretty prolific offenses wherever he goes

He has taken the Air Raid offense and modified it to utilize the vertical passing attack and misdirection of the Air Raid to add a power-running game component while mixing in tempo. If that sounds kind of familiar, think of Chip Kelly modifying the Spread offense that was mostly based on passing to emphasize a power running game....with tempo

something else too: Ducks need some west coast connections. And they really need some Poly influence on the coaching staff. Penei and Noah Sewell's father said Joe Salave'a, Oregon's current DLine coach was essential in getting the two sons to commit to the Ducks

I dont see where Dillingham was effective since at FSU. Lake brought in his bud and list his job.

The is a bit of a risky hire given the experience and age of Lanning.

yeah, I mentioned that. A 35 year old coach and a 31 years old OC could have a rocky learning curve together

on the other hand, Dillingham is a dynamite recruiter with tons of energy. o that matches Lanning and fits with the Duck establishment wanting to keep recruiting momentum going

speaking of which: lots of buzz about T.J. Rushing being a top target of Lanning. Like Dillingham, he worked with Lanning at ASU and Memphis. He's the DB coach for Texas A&M, has west coast ties, and is yet another dynamite recruiter.

I'd have a concern about the head coach hiring good friends. not a giant concern but it might make it harder for the HC to fire a friend who is under-performing

Dillingham was the OC for Auburn when they beat the ducks a couple years ago. He was OC for Memphis when they had top 5 offense. He is young but has some experience.

FSU went 5&7 thus year?

you may be over-thinking the situation. Willie Taggart left FSU in a much worse situation than he did Oregon. It was a pretty bare cupboard when Norvell took over in the middle of a Covid year. And it was Norvell's offense that Dillingham had to implement. Norvell's fingerprints were all over that offense. Much more-so than Dillingham's

there is this:

that's how he did when he had more latitude. Also, notice that he is the QB coach. That will count for a lot with the Ducks left with 3 freshmen QB's

Struggling men's basketball team loses again on last second shot by Stanford; Ducks now 0-2 in conference play. Stanford made more of their open shots. Oregon still trying to find a big who can produce consistently. Kepnang does not have grea t touch and doesn't move his feet well on defense. Dante wearing a brace and not quite there yet. Team is second worse in conference shooting free throws.

Yeah I’ve watched a couple games and scoring baskets is a struggle for that team. They’re desperately missing Duarte.

Some people not too happy down in Miami:
Members of Miami's faculty are reportedly upset after seeing the university sign new football coach Mario Cristobal to an $80 million contract after a year of pandemic cuts, according to the Miami Herald.

Besides forcing faculty to teach in person, the university has slashed more than $100 million in its matching contributions to faculty retirement plans and forced staff to accept compensation cuts. But several faculty members tell the Miami Herald that they believe the cuts helped bankroll spending on athletics and construction projects.

80 million for a coach who hasn't won a natty is just bonkers to me.

Interesting that Mullens offered the HC job to Wilcox who turned it down.
