OT El Paso shooting: 22 Dead, 24 Inured. Dayton shooting: 9 Dead, 16 Injured

Really? I don't find anything healthy or fun about generalizations. In fact, I'm pretty sure that many Liberals are staunchly against this when the President supposedly does it. In fact....they tell me it "generates the same hate and volatility" as a personal insult.

I think this was a poor choice of words on your part, Sly.

That's cool. I totally get what you mean. And I agree I could have said that better.

I've been doing yard work before the heat really starts to blast. Run around mow lawn, get sweaty, run back in to cool off, post, run back out to do more yard work. Rinse and repeat about 5 times so far.

I appreciate that Sly, thank you. Now go roll in the leaves like a good dog. :biglaugh: Enjoy your yard work, and remember to stay hydrated!!!

Bullshit. He's no more responsible for this than Maxine Waters is for some Liberals who hate the police and white people. Stop this nonsense.

If you don't have enough self-control to be out in society without killing innocent people, then it doesn't matter who says what....you are going to go off at anything. If it wasn't hatred of corporations, those who pollute the environment, and Mexicans, then it probably would have been a road rage incident or killing his domestic spouse/girlfriend/domestic partner.

Self control is a thing. Personal responsibility is a reality. Obama said things I didn't agree with In fact, many politicians have said things I don't agree with....and yet, never once have I ever even come close to considering mass murder.

These people are crazy. Psychos. Are we REALLY going to allow them to dictate the policies or rhetoric of this country through violent actions?

The policies and rhetoric of this country are dictating their violent actions.

Were Waters or Obama using hateful rhetoric? How does the the things they have said compare with the length Trump has gone? It is certainly a conversation to be had. Public officials, especially those in the highest level of office can provoke a deep influence and hold a responsibility to the things they say and what those comments cause.

You say these shooters lack self control. So lets give them access to assault rifles.

I never called you a white supremacist or a terrorist. Or anyone on here for that matter.

I pointed out the shooters are white nationalist/supremacist Trump Lovers with assault rifles. Fact.
Was the Dayton asshat a Trump guy?

Even though I have been kicked out of the republican party by @MarAzul I still identify as a conservative. It pisses me off that white supremacists feel they have found a home and a voice in the republican party. It doesn't really matter what liberals say about that, it'a up to conservatives to get rid of these fucks. Too often in political discourse the argument is well this party may have a problem but the other party has this problem. It's deflection and not taking responsibility.

Everyone needs to hold the political party they support to a higher standard instead of settling for maybe being slightly better than the other one.

Where have you seen that?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/who-connor-betts-dayton-ohio-shooter-1452491?amp=1

This is about the only thing Ive seen.

Edit: All it says is he went to a community college, worked at Chipotle and was registered as a Democrat.

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/ohio-shooting/index.html

edit: Found this too. Don't really know what to make of it. I wouldn't be at all surprised it was a white nationalist extremist, this isnt an attempt to deflect from that. Just not sure where you got the info that was the motive or whatever were calling it.

Oh yes, Maxine in particular has been quite a piece of work. Obama was just arrogant and condescending, but Maxine is a nut.

It is certainly a conversation to be had.

Another time I'm afraid. I forget how exhausting this shit is. I remember why I stopped coming to the OT a while back.

Public officials, especially those in the highest level of office can provoke a deep influence and hold a responsibility to the things they say and what those comments cause.

My personal opinion: I think it has far more to do with social media and the MSM than it does with anything a politician has said. The internet has changed dramatically just within the past 10 years, and it has caused problems we can't even begin to fathom. It has given a platform for all kinds of crazy ideologies. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a facebook account for head hunters for a Sun God or something.

Was the Dayton asshat a Trump guy?

So it sounds like there is just no reasoning with you, period. Any mass shooter is going to be a "Trump guy".

Then I'm gonna stop banging my head into this wall before it becomes bloody.

I agree with this to a point; and that point being the very obvious fact that BOTH sides have extremists. The FBI is actually considering ANTIFA as a violent extremist group....they are anything but Conservative or Right-leaning. But does that mean that the Democratic Party is responsible for them?

No?

Okay......then why are Conservatives or Republicans responsible for White Supremacists? Why do we need to run around apologizing for them?

They are BOTH fringes of their respective sides. I do, however, think that both sides could do a better job at pushing them away. The amount of times I've wanted to reach through a screen and smack a supposed Conservative for talking white supremacist propaganda, or spouting off some conspiracy about something, is endless. Hell, I wanted to do it just today on a gun forum! And I already got some white supremacist kicked off of that same forum for his racist rhetoric.

But I don't blame gun owners for that guy's behavior because he signed on to a gun forum. I blame his ignorance, and I hold HIM responsible for it.

I don't think either side should be taking responsibility for the fringe elements within. I do, however, think both sides should do a better job of isolating them and condemning them.

But blaming a politician for something a mass murderer did? Sorry, that's going too far. I've never heard Trump once call for killing anyone illegally.

I pointed out the shooters are white nationalist/supremacist Trump Lovers with assault rifles.

I am white,
Perhaps even a nationalist.
I voted for Trump,
and very likely will again.
I own a semi automatic rifle,
have for 40 years.

Now I thought of asking you what I can do for you, but... I does seem hopeless perhaps pointless.
I suppose I should just take some advice from Marcus Aurelius;

Learn not to be ready
to listen to slander.

Good stoic philosophy. Very close to appropriate for your post and your message.

Okay......then why are Conservatives or Republicans responsible for White Supremacists? Why do we need to run around apologizing for them?

I didn't say apologize for them. I said to make it very clear to them that they do not have a home or a voice in the republican party. Right now they do.

Likewise. I own an AK-47, and I voted for Trump. And I don't appreciate you associating me with a crazy mass murderer.
Say what? How did he associate you with a crazy mass murderer in the post you are responding to?

Yes it's exhausting. And, I know we all want the same thing. For this shit to stop.

These guys were both white nationalist/supermacist dudes. One had a manifesto. The Dayton shooter was targeting black people.

I agree with your assesment on how the internet and social media has changed things in bad ways.

Antifia is not democratic or liberal, they are anarchists who want to see the world burn. Democrats and liberals have never accepted them. Trump accepted white nationalists as part of the republican party. A lot of his supporters (not all of them) fit into that category and he wont come out and denounce them right out. He accepted them. They have become engrained in the republican party now.

I agree both sides should condemn these groups.

I didn't say apologize for them. I said to make it very clear to them that they do not have a home or a voice in the republican party. Right now they do.

Because of Trump. Before him they didn't

Good for you

Well I am glad you won't be carrying out a mass shooting

I have slandered no one.

Trump accepted white nationalists as part of the republican party.

I want to see verified proof of this. Not assumed rhetoric or connect-the-dots theory.

fit into that category and he wont come out and denounce them right out.

Not sure what else he has to say. Does he have to do a song and dance too?

If you want to accuse him of being careless with his words or being out of touch with some of what he's saying, I can agree with you there. But "supporting racists"? I don't see it.

Antifia is not democratic or liberal, they are anarchists who want to see the world burn.

I agree. But they also identify as Left wing. I don't see Democrats or Liberals running around apologizing for them though.

They have become engrained in the republican party now.

Really? Because the last white supremacist I saw to hold office wasn't a Republican....

Disavowed or not, Robert Byrd was still an actual Klan member at one time. I don't even think Trump can make claim to that in his past.

Because of Trump. Before him they didn't

Yeah, they just came out of the wood work, huh?

Watch at the 1:50 mark. Bill gets it, why don't you?

OK, perhaps you are just talking out you're ass. I don't really think you can expect to sell Trump Lover and Trump Fanny boys, as terms of endearment.

I really would like to find out what is wrong with these young guys. It predates Trump and that is for damn sure. Simply classifying them as you do is ignorant but worse, not helpful. Not to mention insulting.

It most certainly does. We've had mass shootings in the mainstream since I was in school in the mid-1990s. I didn't see Trump out there calling for Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris to kill a bunch of innocent students. I didn't see Trump telling Cho to shoot up Virginia Tech (and by the way....he didn't use a rifle....). I didn't see Trump calling on Aaron Alexis to shoot up the Washington Navy Yard in 2013 (also didn't use a rifle).

This whole idea that Trump somehow combined racism and mass shootings together and preached for it is the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever read.

Not to belabor this, but Ive spent almost an hour now googling this and still haven’t really found anything. Could you provide a link?

Not trying to argue with you, or deflect or anything like its mostly just curiosity at this point.

Can't find the link. One of the first articles I read said he was targeting black people

Fair enough. He very well may have been it sounds like their were more blacks than whites shot.

From that past hour or so of reading, I dont think this one was political, or anything like that. It’ll be interesting what they get from the investigations but he killed his sister and went to a place he knew her and her friend would be at.

I'm sorry this isn't going make me any friends but fuck everyone. Fuck politics. This is why I can't stand this shit. Republicans, Democrats, Independents, who the fuck ever.

Why can't we just all be fucking human beings and come together to figure this shit out. If we spent as much time trying to come together to get shit done as we do blaming others maybe something positive could've been accomplished by now. Who gives a fuck what political party you are, don't you want your family to be safe when shopping at Walmart or while out having a drink with your friends? We're failing our kids.

Every politician should be locked in a fucking room until they agree to get along for the sake of our fucking country. Of course I don't have a solution but it's their fucking job to do so.

Fuck!

If we locked them all in a room, can we just leave them there instead of wait for them to agree on anything.

I think many of us have been guilty of making generalizations at times that weren't reflective of the members of this community. That said, as long as Chris or any staff member doesn't violate the personal insult rule they are free to post their opinions. Being staff doesn't make them give that up.

Calling posters racists or white supremacists is a crystal clear violation of the no personal insult rule, regardless of whether he uses the term Trump supporters as a go-around. It is quite sad that a mod is so challenged with simple debate decorum.
