Well you left off the word right before that. Why?

what was the word? nearly?...I honestly don't remember. I didn't cherry pick, at least not intentionally

I know I praised the RoCo addition (thought two 1st's was a high price) but condemned the Jones signing. Neutral on Giles. I was fine with Kanter. It was certainly a better off-season than the previous one. But still, I thought the roster was nowhere close to being a contender. It was basically, more rinse/repeat so I wouldn't praise that

and again...what difference does it make if a bunch of fans and yakking-heads thought it was a great off-season? What counts, expectations or results? Is Dame's attitude right now informed by September predictions or June's playoff record

Wasn't just the fans

privacy and relaxed media being near the top.

Did you honestly say that Portland has a "Relaxed Media"?
I'm not sure I agree with you there? Maybe some are relaxed because of the dispensaries but this town needs another pro team to report on.

I agree with your overall point though. He should sell the city better.

there is a fishbowl effect, yes.

but the media is largely tame compared to the sharks in NY/LA whose sole goal in their jobs is to get people to trip up while writing gossip columns. Look at this Philly column on Simmons' bday yesterday

having lived in major cities the majority of my life, Portland media is nothing comparatively speaking. There’s only one Clownzano in Portland. In LA multiply that by 10. Hope the Blazers players appreciate how good they have it.

well, congratulations....you've made a list of people wrong about the team
no, im only showing you that the story on Olshey changed pretty damn quickly over the past few months, while disputing your claim that the praise for him came only from "a bunch of fans. It's OK to admit a mistake in here, btw. Not sure why people are so hellbent on claiming they're always right.

Many people thought we had a good offseason. This year, that story is completely forgotten.

I added the last part as an edit.
I do agree with you that he should sell the city/team/players/organization better.

do you think State Farm insures Chris Paul's house?

Doing a commercial and actually sitting across from someone and trying to sell them something are two completely different things. It's not the same world. It's not the same solar system. It's not even the same universe.

Do you think they insure his soul. Because after last night his soul is broken and they are going to have to pay out. Unless of course...it was an act of God.

Or maybe they have an act of Foster clause

Which was my point in the first place. Many people thought we had a good offseason. This year, that story is completely forgotten.

Olshey's record as Portland's GM didn't start a year ago. It started in 2012 and there has been an accrual of moves and decisions that have informed the attitudes of people paying any attention. Besides that, I think Olshey was being graded on a deceptive curve last summer aftter the previous year when he added Bazemore, Tolliver, and Hezonja. I actually saw some people praise those moves. Sure, not as much as lst summer, but when you're wrong, you're wrong

and just so you know, I don't really see any distinction between Steven A Smith, Rachel Nichols, and fans. I don't really see a higher level of expertise in the talking heads. Most of them any way

yeeeeesh....it was a joke NB

In comparison to his history, it was one if Neil's best off seasons. I think the team was improved from the prior year.

The issue is that despite being a good off season, it's nowhere near what was needed to turn the team into a contender

The funniest part of this is that this deal was an accident. Olshey was prepared to trade Plumlee for Jahlil Okafor before Denver panicked and threw in the 1st.

The best trade Olshey has made here: an accident.

So much this. Even then, Olshey raved about the pick that was acquired much more than he seemed overyly hyped about Nurk.
Then Nurk went 'Nurk Fever' for a short stint and it seemed like we really might have something on our hands.

Haven't seen Nurk Fever since.

Also, it wasn't just some fans. It was damn near everyone here who thought we had a good offseason last November.

what is your point?...I honestly don't understand it

the roster that was getting A-pluses in a survey of posters here ended up the 6th seed and a 1st round exit against an injured team. Does Olshey, and his roster, get gauged by pre-season guesses about it's quality or by what it accomplished?

“RUN IT BACK!”

Im all for a GM change if we can get the right one.

Ive wondered for a while now why it is people think Prestie is such a great GM? Under his management they've lost Harden, Durant & Westbrook, plus gets kick out of the playoffs, but yet he survives?

Bravo! He's got all this draft capital , but most of it will have to go towards re-acquiring proven NBA TALENT. The draft is a crapshoot. Especially the later picks. You can luck out on a 2nd rounder, as much as a late 1st round choice. And a lot of those picks are from Good teams, not lottery bound teams. How long till Shai gilgeous-alexander says, "I'm outta here. But everyone licks his jock like he's a freakin' genius.

Presti had the right idea for a small market team. Acquire talent through the draft. I may be wrong but I feel like he traded Harden because of $$$ directions from the front office. He got back Kevin Martin who was a good player and multiple picks in that deal. Obviously not what you would want for Harden but better than nothing.

Also, look at him now. Dude is sitting on a billion picks. They have a bright future again.

I would take Presti in a second over Olshey.

Yeah, how many more years will that bright future take?
Its easy to have garage sales for picks, Im sure Neil could take Presties route and liquidate for picks and that bright future.

Sam basically bought himself more tenure as their gm, as he building a new successful thunder future. I hope Neil doesn't try the same approach.

If he isn't going to use his future picks to surround dame with another all star he should. Making the playoffs isn't good enough and shouldn't be good enough for any team. At least Presti is trying. Got closer doing it his way than Olshey has. Neil is content with 1st round exits.

For a year i was off the Fire Olshey train, i think he did a good job last offseason, now i'm back. The more i read about him and the fact that he's incapable to build a contender around Dame, and his obssession with CJ makes me really angry. His behaviour in press conferences is so embarrassing, like a small child who has not grown up. Motherfucker thinks he's Mr. Perfect. Fuck him
